I am currious if many still do the real tree. We Always HAd a Real And A Silver one with the color wheel in my room because I had big window. but we always had a real one and Dad Flocked It with Snow when that became the fashion but Iremember a time when he trimed with angel Hair and we werent allowed to touch it . that was before we knew it was bad for you. I also HAve been on many  "Real Cut Down The Tree Excursions" not a farm. So have my Children. Living in the Sierra Nevada Mts You only need a tree permit at that time for $1.00   $5.00  for a certain type (Chalie brown stick kind) better than $500.00 fine and No tree Fine.....How about yall Is everthing completly Comercial now, a matter of convience?

    always a real one here-
we have the ole christmas tree picking day tradition at my house....

I love real trees and I m an absolute expert at finding the Charlie Brown variety. The smell is wonderful there is no passable substitute. Inversely one of my most hated things is cleaning up fallen pine needles! So the artificial tree wins but I usually weekend and have a few juniper boughs or some form of fresh pine around anyway.

sometimes we have a real one...sometimes a fake one...depending on how much time we have. i want to do a tree right away now...but i don't know if that will happen.

We've done real trees in the past, but for the past couple of years we've taken the lazy way out with a tree that already has lights on it.

I'm indifferent to decorating for the holidays--any holiday.

i too prefer real trees, although my parents have a fake one these days. with the house empty of kids, i guess they figure it's too much trouble to get a real one nowadays.

    Catch 22 for me.

Love the smell of a real. Hate the maintenance & cleanup -- Needles, sap, constant watering, etc.

As for fake, no great smell, nothing realistic or special, but low maintenance and some are quite artistic.

I'd have to say I'm leaning more heavily to the artificial at this point in my life, especially as an apartment dweller.

WE had a real tree until last year then we had an artificial one. Was not so bad.
  • wakingharmony said on Nov 28, 2007....
silver~I know it gets said when it starts to become a bother ...everthing is shortened except the time you have to shop.
Des~ He girl I know there are some amazing fake trees..and in todays hectic world it seems to have become the thing to do
PT you can always use cut branhes from friends to make a wreath and there is great smell.
skald~Lots of people are going artificial.. I think they advertize more artificial that real...with the population growth it does help save trees.

As a child growing up it was always an artificial tree so since I have had my own home I have always had a real tree.

We always had a real tree growing up. And it was actually a fun adventure to go and pick it out.

We would get two of them. One nice one, and one ugly one. My mom felt sorry for the ugly ones no one wanted. So we had to get both.

It became a contest to see who could pick out the ugliest one. It was fun.

So that's what we do now too. I've only had a fake tree a few times when I first got married and lived in a tiny apartment where there was no room for a big tree.

    a real tree.
  • soleme said on Dec 04, 2007....

Growing up we had a fake tree, used the same one, for about twelve years.  I hated that tree it was worse than a Charlie Brown tree.

Since the day my sisters and I were able to work we would put our money together and purchase a real tree.  To this day I prefer a real tree. I know I soud like a materialistic person, but fake trees remind me of growing up poor.

Alyss ~ I love the smell of fresh trees it doesnt seem like Christmas without it.

Mr Box~ Oh My that must have been something with you and Kyle~ your family sounds as nuts as mine!

soleme~ when I was young it was cheaper for a real tree...I remember getting trees for $2.00
