This is why things never get planned or done when family is involved.  This is a few emails that I traded back and forth with my future sister-in-law.  I’m trying to repay her invitation from the other day to have our nails done.  I figured it would take a couple of rounds of negotiation, but it looks like I may have to call a summit in order to get anything planned.

Hi there,

I wanted to touch base with you ASAP to plan some time to spend together over the Christmas Holiday. Let me know what your schedule looks like.

Love,

Hi C!

I meant to shoot an email to you this morning.  It's a little busy here.

Yes, let's spend some time at the Holidays.  I am pretty sure Faith will be here that week and I am going to take a few days off when I know her schedule.

I also wanted to see if you had time for lunch or coffee this coming weekend.  Let me know if you have time.  I have a company dinner Saturday night, but otherwise I'm flexible.

Hi Uniquely,

This week is particularly bad. How 'bout a week from this Sat?

Cheers!

Sounds good, we'll have Faith to bring along that weekend unless Bill offers to keep an eye on her.  I'm still waiting for Faith to give me her Christmas break schedule, but how about tentatively planning a dinner out?

What would you think about inviting Bill and J????

To dinner?  Sure!  Why not.  I'll bring plenty of Band-Aids and ear plugs. (LOL)

Honestly, I think it would be very nice.

Uh...I just remembered that my Company X-mas party is that night. How about Friday night instead? That would be the 7th.

I was hoping to spend time with you prior to X-mas and then around X-mas too, but don't want Bill or J to feel left out...you know how that is. I'll bring the pacifiers (LOL). Maybe we can come up with some girl time in between...lemme see what I can come up with.

Oh maybe it will be better to pick up the phone and ring. Just an idea. Can't see why this has to be so complicated.

Good luck with that. Sounds to me like negotiating for a national take over.

skald - Me either, but calling her usually ends up about the same.  We trade phone messages since she is rarely available by phone.

botoni - this family is the hands down champions of avoidance and being slippery.  I figure this is the warm up for the wedding negotiations. ;)

queen - she rents a room in a home so it's awkward to visit there, and I'd be happy to have her at our place, but she often ends up arguing with her brother.

SW - tell me.  I hate when people hurry you up to make plans and sabotage them the minute they have to really commit.
