SOULCAST enthusiasts,

I challenge you to a debate!

Soulcast is home to a lot of good writers. No arguments from my side here. Most of the time, I'm entertained  in reading a lot of articles here and there by persons from all walks of life. What interests me is how many of these good writers can likewise formulate good arguments. Are bloggers born to debate as well?

I'd like to start a project here in soulcast. I'm calling it SC DEBATE SOCIETY. The main purpose of this is to be able to get SC enthusiasts to engage in an intellectual discussion. Don't get me wrong when I said "intellectual discussion." I don't want to sound like a professor or something. What I simply meant by that is that when we argue, we do it promptly. That is to say, there's no need to use any foul language. Everyone here is entitled to their opinions.

For this project, I've laid out the following guidelines to ensure the success and continuity of the debates here (yes, I'm not always around. So, I aim soliciting everyone's help here.)

1. I shall begin this project by posting a topic to debate.

2. From the first topic, I shall choose and invite 10 persons, who have "intellectually argued" their side, to become the members of the core group. Being a member entitles him/her to create a topic and host the debate in his/her blog. Membership after the core members are selected shall be done in the process of two nominations and by a vote. So, one can become a member if he is nominated by at least two present members. A majority vote of all the present members is required to become a member.

3. Choosing who shall create and host a topic shall be done on the basis of merits, i.e., depending on the efforts of the member. This shall be done through a voting process which I shall initiate. The highest vote from the present members shall be the determining factor. There shall be a new topic every after two weeks (to give time to everyone to think).

4. As the brainchild of this project, I reserve the right to announce the activities regarding this project and to keep a list of the members. Also, I reserve the right to sanction any misdemeanor and misconduct of any member. I reserve the modify the guidelines above set above.

So, are you interested?!

Let's begin!

SC DEBATE SOCIETY

TOPIC #1: Do you favor globalization or not?

The operational definition globalization:

"The tendency of investment funds and businesses to move beyond domestic and national markets to other markets around the globe, thereby increasing the interconnectedness of different markets." -  Dictionary.com

In layman's terms, globalization is the "opening-up" of one country of its doors to the international community for the basic purpose of catching-up with the growth and advancements of 1st world countries. In the context of business and market, foreign investors would ideally be given equal footing with local ones. As stated, it is for the foreigners to bring in their research and technology into the host country for the latter's improvement.

rules sound complicated but I am up for it....

That topic is something I could easily argue for... but then I doubt it would become a debate as we are all bloggers here...  so everyones gonna agree or else they would all be writing in their journals not blogging here hoping for a debate!

(did that make any sense??  guess I dont have much chance of making it as a debate member!!   lol   )

Hmm... yeah... I've been thinking that the topic was rather silly....
    I'll change it.

destiny... I got what you meant. I changed the topic already.

Everyone's got a chance. I think it was my mistake this time for coming up with a silly topic. It's hard thinking of a topic that would apply to everyone, you know, regardless of what country or culture one came from. Anyway, I've revised the topic. I hope it would now be up for the task!

    Start arguing!

Sign me up!  I love intelligent debates........dee

    Is globalization the topic?

I favor globalization, under certain conditions.  It has to be done in a matter that is fair to all countries.  What that means is it would have to be favorable for small developing countries as well as to larger, richer countries.

Thus far, there is some evidence that the process of globalization, or another word for that would be, "integration", raises income.  In lieu of that factor, I would support better regulations, and better standards.

However, there already are reports that integration itself does that very thing.  That is because, multinational corporations often bring to the countries involved. the same level of standards and labor practices they have elsewhere.

There still are some abuses, which have spurred some criticism of globalization, however, I think, given time these abuses will be overcome.  Our world does suffer from some abuses in the market place, but usually those abuses do get worked out.  I think the same will happen in this situation as well, and we should find as integration becomes more prevalent, these problems should be worked out.

o, i think the original topic could've been interesting, soulreaver.

but as for me: i think that globalization is a good thing. ultimately, it delivers lower-cost goods to consumers.
