What is the most expensive thing on earth? A diamond? Nope. Antimatter is the most expensive thing on earth. One mg of antimatter costs 300 billion dollars.
What is antimatter? It is that stuff that collides with matter and results in an explosion that annihilates both and produces so much energy that it makes nuclear weapons appear to be calm by comparison.
When they are able to make bullets out of antimatter, if they shoot someone with the bullet it will turn the person into a bomb and he will explode.
But what is antimatter? It is the same as regular matter, except with the electric charge reversed. You learned in school that a proton has a positive charge. Well, an antimatter proton is called an antiproton and it has a negative charge. You learned in school that an electron has a negative charge. An antimatter electron, called a positron, has a positive charge.
Are antimatter particles real? Do any exist? Yes and yes. It isn't just sci fi. It's real and they exist.
When energy is really high, as in the first moments after the Big Bang, the first moments after the beginning of our universe, there was an equal amount of matter and antimatter. It kept colliding, and making light. The light kept separating into its half and half components of matter and antimatter. One piece of light, called a photon, is composed of half matter, half antimatter.
Then when the universe cooled down, everything calmed down, and there was no longer enough energy for that to keep happening. Most of it stayed as light. It couldn't break into components of matter and antimatter. By that time, for some reason, the equilibrium was broken between matter and antimatter, and there was just the tiniest bit of matter in excess of antimatter, so it couldn't join with antimatter to form a particle of light. It got left as matter. Thus, the observable universe. The stars, the planets, you. The excess of matter over antimatter in our universe.
There's probably another universe that has a slight excess of antimatter over matter. In that universe, atoms are composed of negatively charged protons, antiprotons. Electrons have a positive charge, and are positrons. It's a universe opposite to our own.
What is this, a friggin comic book? It's the universe of Mr. Mxyzptlk. And over there, the most expensive thing on anti-earth is matter. It costs them 300 billion anti-dollars to make a penny of matter.
The president of the anti-United States is Mr. Laura Bush. Truth is stranger than fiction, because fiction is limited to our imagination and truth is not.
