For those of you that are living in warmer areas and dreaming of white Christmases, you have my permission to live vicariously through me for the rest of this post! But really, the photos don't do it justice. I kept thinking that the whole time I was taking these. None of these can really show you how deep the snow is, or how the wind has sculpted it, or how it silences everything, or how magical it feels to be out walking in it. But Infernal (because I was thinking a lot about you while I took these), I hope that one day when our lives are more settled, you'll be able to come see it for yourself and we can enjoy it together - or maybe you'll end up in a place where you have some of your own! I would love that for you.
But on to the pics!
First off, I thought I'd go snap a few shots off the back terrace of our apartment building. But I was greeted by this!

Here's more of an establishing shot:

And another for good measure:

It's not that there was that much snow, although there was a TON of it. It had more to do with the wind blowing it into the little alcove where the doorway is. More evidence of wind out the front side of the building:

Next I headed downstairs to take a few street shots. I wish you could have seen some of the things I didn't get pictures of - the wonderfully comic stances people had to get into to be able to feed their meters, for example! But this will have to do:

And the other way:

More evidence of the wind:

Next I came to an intersection and took a couple of nice distance shots of the water. Just a few days ago there was no ice, or maybe just a little skin. A few days or weeks from now it will be solid white!

Next I went to a small municipal parking lot and "green" space (in summer it's green anyway!)
Glad neither of these cars are mine:

I thought the bench facing a giant snowbank looked whimsical:

Closing in on the snowbank to get an idea of how big it is:

A little closer...

and this is just one of two or three this size cleared off this lot - and the lot had been recovered in snow that needs to be cleared off again. These things get HUGE by the end of the season!
I had a few more shots in mind I wanted to get, but right about then my camera battery died. It's just as well; I was getting a bit overzealous with my photography! Got a lot of weird looks from people walking by, like, "What is she doing taking pictures of plain old snow?" Most people here are very utilitarian about winter; they have to be to get through it. I'm a hopeless romantic and I think snow is terribly photogenic! ...but ask me again in three months and we'll see ;) These are far from my best photos, but let me know what you think anyway :)
