  Hell, people are killed on movie sets and no mention is made of them...or maybe a dedication at the end or in the next production if anything....it's hush hush tiem and I'll bet some companies would be hard-pressed to prove that no animals were hurt...if you include ALL animals, not just cuddly cats and dogs...

  As a film maker Desdemona yes you have to state it.  Your finance comes from corporations, the film must be reviewed for its rating, if you are audited (as a lot of film companies and sets are) and you have been found to have in any way misinformed any film commission or board of your activities you are sued and fined thousands of dollars.
  
  As a note it is intelligent to remember that when using animals in films be they wild or tame you must go through legal channels to be able to film them.  in the case of wild animals it is a park ranger governmental body, in the case of tame animals it is the owners and trainers themselves.
