  • Mamie said on Nov 21, 2007....
of course I do! She has a halo on her head and wings on her back! I have a skiing flying pig, a flying pig bird house, a pink metal flying pig where the belly is a fan that blows in the wind like one of those kids toys (like a pinwheel)...um, a flying pig in a christmas sweater..and a flying pig ballerina in a tutu! I have a flying pig by my back door that holds a little tray for bird seed and she has an Easter bonnet on her head...a heavy iron one by my tv on top of the speaker...a windchime flying pig in my tree in the kitchen...it is hilarious! when pigs fly, baby!

I collect action figures! Star Wars and Buffy the Vampire Slayer ones to be exact. I've got a ton. I also love collecting any sort of old toys from when I was a kid. Dukes of Hazzard is another favorite. I've got curtains and cars and lunchboxes, etc. Apparently I'm just a big kid at heart!

I think the things just start collecting them selfs here. Books and cards. Somehow people think I want cards and send me them. lol Someday I will give my cards to someone who collects them. I have at least two full plastic bags and they date way back.

I used to collect baseball cards, and I still have the set from 1957. I have a stamp collection but I never do anything with it anymore.
  • travelr712 said on Nov 21, 2007....
i collect manufacturer's tins. you know, the ritz crackers and oreo cookies tins they put out at holidays? but i have specific rules. they have to come from the original manufacturer, and they have to have had the original product in them. the problem is, tins take up allot of space, and i live in a small apartment, so i have very little of my collection over the years left.
  • Fallyn said on Nov 21, 2007....
skald, that's odd.....why do you suppose they have that idea?

    ed...favorite?

zayda, neat! i love antique dishes and things.

lisa....neat.......i'm pretty sure i've seen blue ridge pottery.

iffy.....that's cool. when i was a kid i collected baseball cards ,i'm sure you're are worth a lot more than mine. :P

trav.....wow, i'm sure. thats cool though.
  • Zayda said on Nov 21, 2007....
Blue Ridge Pottery isn't all that obscure. I have two aunts who have been collecting it for years; they each have a china cabinet plus an additional curio cabinet full of Blue Ridge Pottery dishes.

Trav--My mother collects tins from manufacturers as well. She has a few of them. She uses them in her kitchen to "hide" some of her staples. I have a really neat Otis Spunkmeyer Chocolate Chip Cookie Tin that I bought with the cookies in it. I kept the tin because it's red and my dining room/kitchen is red.
  • travelr712 said on Nov 21, 2007....
zayda - you can send it to me care of the following address.... ;-) that's really cool! i don't think i've ever seen an otis spunkmeyer cookie tin!
  • Zayda said on Nov 21, 2007....
Well Trav if I ever find another one with the cookies in it. :) Right now, the tin is the perfect size for my miniature cookie cutters, so it gets use as both a decorative item/storage space.
  • Fallyn said on Nov 21, 2007....
cookie cutters are cool...especially mini ones....maybe i'll start a collection. *grin*

I sort of collect musical instruments.  Its expensive but I really do want to own one of everything some day.  Right now I own 6 guitars, a bass guitar, a dulcimer, a keyboard, a lap steel, 3 harmonicas, a djembe, and a mandolin.  Theres a bunch more I still want.
  • satyr said on Nov 21, 2007....

I collected stamps when I was young.  Haven't done anything with them in over 20 years, but still have them.  I started collecting baseball and football cards for my son when he was born, but they quickly became a fad and I stopped.

I collect Cleveland Browns football cards and Magic:the Gathering cards, although I haven't actively collected Browns cards since the mid '90's.

Sometimes it seems like our house is one big collection, LOL.

  • hotaka said on Nov 21, 2007....
I think I was a squirrel in a past life or maybe a bower bird because I love collecting things. I keep coins and bills from all the countries I visit. I used to collect hockey cards but now I am just saying them for my retirement (lol). I also used to collect comic books and other bubble gum cards. Now I collect very nice photo art books and I have an ongoing rock collection, many items purchased, some found. And currently I have a stack of various Kit Kat boxes on my desk that I should throw out.

lampshade, I want to visit your house. You have some things I would love to get my hands on just for the pluck of it.
  • wombat said on Nov 21, 2007....
Rocks--mostly.  Used to be anything with butterflies.  And now am on my way to anything with a lighthouse theme.

Mostly, I am just busy trying to collect my wits.....
  • Fallyn said on Nov 22, 2007....
    lampshade WOW.

    satyr, tha'ts cool though.

hotaka, those are some of the books i collect.....photo art books.

wombat...wits...yeah...i need a collection of those.
  • hotaka said on Nov 22, 2007....
Fallyn, we have to compare notes. What kind of books do you have?
  • wakingharmony said on Nov 22, 2007....
I collect Angels doves frogs and some records...gosh I collect a lot of stuff
  • fearing said on Nov 22, 2007....
    Plates, I collect plates.
    And some would argue pillows.
  • wakingharmony said on Nov 22, 2007....
fearing I have throw pillows from my great grandma and if people worry about dust mites all those things a good cleaning and vaccume and put in garbage bags tie  and if you have deep freezer put in for 48 hrs .or no deep freezer 2 weeks closed takes care of it. It is worth it for all those old pillows that grandma made same with old quilts afraid to wash
  • Fallyn said on Nov 22, 2007....
hotaka.......a lot of older literature, bronte, shakespeare, poe, dickenson, etc.

photography collections, art collections, compilations of my favorite artists

i collect text books of all things- mostly history, i have one i've read over several times, but now i can't remember what it's called *laughing*

newer authors, anne rice, robert jordan, stephanie meyer, jodie picoult,
    terry pratchett,
role playing game books, calvin and hobbes collections.
um, i'm sure there is more i'm just not remembering.

a TON of books on fashion and sociology and some on politics and history for a research project i'm slowly working on.
  • Fallyn said on Nov 22, 2007....
waking those are neat though...that's not a lot of collections. *grin* oh, and great advice about the pillows

fearing....so pillows are more of an accidental collection?

  • silverwhisper said on Nov 23, 2007....
fallyn: when i was collecting, the mighty thor was hands-down my favorite ongoing series. the writer/artist at the time, walt simonson, is a gifted writer but also a fantastic artist as well.

    ed
  • Fallyn said on Nov 23, 2007....
i don't think i've heard of the mighty thor.

but walt simonson.....comic book artist? am i remembering right?
  • silverwhisper said on Nov 23, 2007....
yes: he was also a writer after a while.

    ed
  • Fallyn said on Nov 24, 2007....
okay, i've only heard of him in passing...that's cool though.
  • silverwhisper said on Nov 25, 2007....
his style is quite distinctive--he's clearly more influenced by abstract artists than your average comic book guy.

    ed
  • Fallyn said on Nov 25, 2007....

do you have a site that has some of his work?

  • skald said on Nov 25, 2007....
Fallyn I had pen friends since I was young and they wanted stamps . i did not want anything special so they started sending me view cards instead of the stamps and later stickers. No reason for them to think I really wanted it but since they sent it I said thank you. Does that explain this.
  • Fallyn said on Nov 25, 2007....

    it does, *grin* thankyou skald!

  • silverwhisper said on Nov 25, 2007....
fallyn: dunno, never looked, to be honest.
