Today should have been a lot crappier than it was. All four of us are sick, and sick people tend to get cranky. And we did have our rough moments, for sure...but so much of the day went right that I had to share.
Little one doesn't mind having her nose wiped - in fact, she'll take a tissue, "blow" (make a noise and swipe it across her face) and throw the tissue in the trash can! Boy, we had a stroke of genius when we taught her to blow last time she had a cold. :-D
She also doesn't mind having her nose suctioned out, which (though gross) is awesome. I think it's because her nose sucker is blue - linebacker baby is stuck with the brown one from the hospital because it works better. He turns into a thing possessed when I get near him with that thing, but I'm bigger so it happens anyway (and darn if he doesn't smile when I'm almost done, like "Ahh, that's better - I can breathe!").
Neither of them fight meds much, either (just regular Tylenol, to combat the achy part of this cold - one nice thing about having the same cold is that I understand what they're going through and what might be bothering them!).
We tried to find Vicks VapoRub for little one at the store, but either we overlooked it or they were out, so we settled for "soothing vapors" bath stuff that I could use with both of them. Let me tell you, after giving two of those baths almost back-to-back, I'm breathing better too! ;-) That stuff stinks though. Ewwwww. I cheated and used regular soap on their hair so they wouldn't smell completely like a medicine cabinet.
Both of them went to bed without a fight.
Yes, I know one or both of my kids will wake at any moment, in need of nose cleaning, a fresh diaper, cuddles, and possibly Tylenol. But for now, peace reigns, and I feel like a good mom. As long as my DayQuil holds up, I'll be fine (can't take NyQuil or I'll be dead to the world for 12-24 hours).
I never knew how difficult it must've been for my mom to care for me and my brother when everybody was sick and she felt like crap, too. I get it now, and I think I'll call her tomorrow to say thanks.
There's linebacker baby, right on cue.
