Some of you know that I write greeting card text on a freelance basis. I actually have a freelance contract with one high profile company...not Hallmark. Last year the company changed editors. My writing style was a good fit with the old editor. I almost always sold a verse or two for each campaign. I felt good about that because there are 48 freelancers competing to get their text into each card.
I had kind of been having a dry spell with this new editor. I hadn't placed one verse in a card since the old editor left. It was starting to get to me.
That finally changed today.
I got the email with the list of vendors that were being requested to submit invoices. There was my number! I sold a birthday verse. As a rule, those are what I sell the most of. Simple little heartfelt one liners.
This sale is even sweeter because I wrote my submissions with my foot bandaged and propped up at the computer. I didn't feel like writing, but I did it anyway. There were 16 cards to submit for in this campaign.
I won't make a huge amount of money from one greeting card. I do get the personal satisfaction of breaking in with the new editor and knowing I had just a little creative juice flowing when I felt so down.
I share so much of my down times. I thought I would share this little victory with you.
