Right now I have my media player on and its playing some very heavy music, much louder than I’d usually have it with headphones on but it fits with my mood right now. It’s loud, with drums and a strong guitar and bass line and the vocals are really strong too. It’s sweeping me along with it and distracting me from my annoyance which is a good thing for my mood but probably less so for my ear drums. I find, probably obviously, that the music I listen to varies with my mood. I have a very eclectic taste and will happily listen to classical and heavier rock. I like several different bands and solo vocalists and can usually find something to reflect my feelings and have also found music to be a good form of communication when words aren’t able to fill the void. Now to crank up the volume some more… What music do you listen to and what kinds do you fall back on when you are annoyed or upset?

for me, it's entirely mood-dependent. if i'm feeling introspective: springsteen. ah, who the hell am i kidding: i listen to bruce all the time, for any reason. you can find an awful lot of ground covered in his stories. anger/rage: i don't listen to music in this mood. i write. i rant. i talk. i don't listen. depressed: 80s alternative for nostalgia value: specifically, yaz, depeche mode, new order...you get the idea. ed

Perhaps I write my rants at the same time as listening to my heavy metal...

'sokay Silverwhisper, I didn't read anything into what you said. Springsteen doesn't do it for me I'm afraid regardless of my mood but it's good that he works for you. As for your depressed choices? Good grief, wouldn't something more cheerful be better?!

Music is said to be the language of the soul. It reflects things within us that might not otherwise be visible. It gives voice to emotions that words alone cannot quite capture. It is a great credit to the artist when others can feel something through their music. It is as if they are touching someone else's soul with a product of their own. Sometimes it doesn't matter if it's even the same feeling as intended by the artist, so long as there is a reaction. When I am happy, I will listen to something uplifting and upbeat. When I am upset I might listen to something melancholy. When I am angry I will usually avoid music. It all depends upon mood...

Fair enough SW. If it works for you then that's good but if I did that then I might never resurface!

I seem to have drifted to classic rock these days. Anything with a great guitar solo. I used to like country, but it just depresses me these days. There are too many songs about death. One in a while I like some of the newer top 40 stuff. Like the others, it all depends on my mood.
