Since it's almost Thanksgiving, what blog would be complete without an entry about what I'm thankful for.

Do you actually do this? Do you actually give thanks on Thanksgiving? Is that part of your tradition?

In my family we do it a little different. We give out awards to the person who did the dumbest or most embarrassing thing that year.

We make it fun. And then we can all be thankful we're not the one who won the award.

Last year my wife won the award. It's good that she has a sense of humor because otherwise she'd never survive in my family.

She won the award for this incident that happened while we were on vacation.

We were staying at a hotel and we'd rented a maroon car. While I was waiting with our daughter for the valet to bring it around, my wife went into the lobby to grab some brochures.

She walks back out and zones in on a maroon car that had just been brought up front. I watched her walk over to it, and jump in the passenger seat.

It was not our car. We were still standing there to the side and she didn't see us. And she was so engrossed in her brochures, she wasn't paying attention.

Apparently she got in the car and asked the woman (who had long dark hair like me) So where are we going to go today?

The woman gave her a frightened sort of look and asked her, do I know you?

This is when my wife realized she was in the wrong car. And that the driver was a woman and not me. (That hurts the old ego that she made that mistake in the first place....)

She jumped out of the car and apologized quite a lot to the scared woman who thought she was being carjacked by a crazy lady who wanted to visit MGM Studios.

I've never laughed so hard in my entire life. And this is the story that won Melanie the high honor at Thanksgiving last year.

I'm not sure who will win this year. That's part of the excitement. I've got a few nominees but I'm keeping them under wraps.

So in this blog, I'd like to take a minute to give thanks instead. Since we don't do this at home.

I am seriously thankful for:

  • My family
  • My relative sanity
  • My health and the health of everyone I love
  • My faith
  • My inner peace

I am superficially thankful for:

  • My computer with high speed internet access
  • My cars
  • My cameras
  • Really good wine
  • Tivo
  • My iPod because now I always have music wherever I go

So what about you? What sorts of things are you thankful for? Seriously or not so seriously. And do you have any off the wall Thanksgiving traditions you'd like to share?

I don't know if I've done anything really embarrassing this year, so I think I might be safe. But I do have a way of blocking out memories of really embarrassing things, so who knows? I'm curious to see what your nominees are.

As for what I'm thankful for, I'll just list everything, both serious and not so serious.

I'm thankful for: my family, Natalie (although to me she's family already....) my friends, my health (both mental and physical...although mental health is debatable sometimes) music, the internet, Soulcast, my cats, my house, my job, Starbucks, and my life in general.

You'll find out my nominees soon enough.....

Nice list of things to be thankful for. I forgot to list my friends. Bad me. I'm thankful for them too. Good thing they aren't reading this and feeling left out.

Your mental health is debatable sometimes but that's what makes you, you.

I am looking forward to spending Thanksgiving w/you guys and seeing who gets the award!! It sounds so fun :) And it will be better than spending Thanksgiving w/my family. Trust me!!

We don't have any special traditions really. My sister is usually the one who holds the dinner and she takes it very seriously. Everything has to be perfect! But it never is.......LOL!

I am thankful for so many things this year. Mostly I am just thankful that I met Kyle :) I am also thankful for my family even though they are crazy. And my new job b/c I love it. And my new house even if it might be haunted. And I am very thankful for chocolate and my cell phone!! LOL

Miss Cutie pants you're going to have fun with us. I'm looking forward to it too.

(heh, I just typed--I'm looking forward to tit oo)

Sometimes I think I should leave the typo because it's funny.

Moving along. I like your thankful list. And I'm glad you met Kyle too.

Thanksgiving is all about giving thanks............and all of the other stuff too! HA!  you guys have a good one, and come back here and right some blogs about it, so we all can share into it with you, okay?...lol, dee

Thank you crybabylu for stopping by. I guess not many people out there feel like giving thanks today.

It's very quiet. I can almost hear myself thinking.

    That can't be good.

It's worse when you can hear me thinking. Trust me. I'm surprised too that more people didn't comment on this. I guess the place is a little dead today.

yeah, i noticed not too many comments going out today.
  • Mr_Box said on Nov 18, 2007....

You're right about that, Kyle. It would be worse if I could hear you thinking too.

    [shudders]

Just kidding. But really, it's a little scary in that head of yours sometimes.

Crybabylu, I keep checking in here and it seems as if no one has anything to say.

I guess others have more productive lives on a Sunday. I, for one, have nothing better to do.

Work calls tomorrow, so I'm trying to relax before I have to face that fact.

your thanksgiving sounds like a hoot!  I'm thinking if we did that in my family I would definitely win the award every year!!  I just can't seem to keep from doing dumb things!!  But my Thanksgiving is going to be a bit different this year...so no traditions, I guess we are making them up as we go!  But since I will be doing the cooking we will probably all be thankful if it's edible, does that count?  Actually I'm fairly sure at least half of what I'll cook will kick ass but if not, we'll possibly be thankful for any pizza place that stays open on Thanksgiving!

Tizz you have to cook this year? Bummer. That's a lot of work.

My wife likes to have our own Thanksgiving some time before the actual day when we go to my parents house.

But after a few times of doing that, she decided it wasn't worth it. The first time, the turkey was still frozen in places.

We ate dinner rolls and stuffing instead.
