I was told by someone recently that they enjoy my more light hearted posts more than the serious ones.

this isn't a poll about my posts...but more about all manner of posts on soulcast.

do you tend toward the silly? the newsworthy? (or not so newsworthy but in the news anyway) the deeply explored topics? the hot button issues? the erotica? the heart warming? daily life journaling?

which do you tend to enjoy more...... light hearted or serious?

for me.....i need equal amounts of both.  silliness and the more light hearted for me is a necessity......like carbs in a diet. ....but as we all know...too much sugar in the diet and you start destabilizing.......
but the deeper more serious topics are like my protein....without which i'd have no deeper fed wells on which to draw.

um.....my analogy is destabilizing like the tail end of a sugar high.....but i think you get my point.

there aren't many news stories i get wrapped up in......i tend to take the long view.....and they don't add a whole lot to my own life.....though they seem to be very important to a lot of people.

and then there are the fats, the desserts, the rich creamy butter that should only be ingested in small doses.......

like posts about johnny depp for instance. *swoon*

completely frivolous, but so much fun to indulge in.

alright....i'll quit rambling now....and let someone else speak.
*zipping it for once*

When I do serious ones I sometimes get into arguments. But they are about topics I care about. I don't enjoy the arguments and I lose patience, particularly when I think I'm dealing with a hammerhead, someone who really thinks he's smart but in actuality comes up to my ankle when it comes to brains, and goes off on me like I'm an idiot. The light hearted ones give me the opportunity to express my odd sense of humor.

do you enjoy an equally matched serious discussion? or does that happen often here?

*grin* odd sense of humour.....hmmmmm. nope...none of that around here i'm afraid.

I enjoy lighthearted topics more because they're fun. But that doesn't mean I'm not interested in reading about more serious things too. The only topics I usually shy away from are political discussions. I have no real interest in talking about that. I prefer to read things that are more personal to people, whether they're light hearted and funny or serious.

fallyn- I'm like you. I want diversity and choice. There are times when my mood guides me and this way there's always something I want to read and comment on.

I like both kinds of discussions, but usually end up making it light at the end.  By nature I'm not an overly serious person.  Sometimes I find that I'll be in the middle of a deep subject and I somehow lose track of my thought.  How embarrassing!  I attribute that to a few brain cells I must have killed in college partying.  Who would have guessed that I'd have needed them down the road?!
  • Fallyn said on Nov 16, 2007....
ET, i can see that. discussing politics is probably necessary sometimes. but for a lot of people it just too much on a daily basis.

    beyond...exactly...that's how i feel.

    UI *laughing* who'd have guessed!

personally, i prefer the more serious stuff as a rule. it's easy to reel off light-hearted fluff-type polls--and you've all seen me do it. but there usually isn't a lot of interesting discussion that goes along with them.

    JMHO.

the deeper discussions of topics i'm interested in do it for me. i need a good interesting discussion too.

It depends.  Titles usually grab my attention more than anything.

As much as I'd love to be able to take the high road, I sometimes allow myself to get sucked into SC drama.
  • Fallyn said on Nov 16, 2007....
but it's so much fun sometimes isn't it.

Some post I find really too silly. I like all that is human. About people and interests. No I don't like political posts. I can read about politic my self. I like to hear people view of things. Their life I like to read about.

I prefer serious discussions over lighthearted ones, although some easygoing banter between good friends is always fun. :)

A lot of the most "lighthearted" people I know are hiding [from] some much deeper subjects that weigh on their minds/hearts. You learn a lot more from people's honest, bare-naked moments than you do from a hundred fluffed conversations.

Some people here tend to weigh in on other people's heavy stuff without sharing much of their own, which tells me more than if they said a lot sometimes. :-p

skald, i think that's what you write the most about too.....you're life. it is interesting

fern.....banter is cool. *grin* but the serious ones for me that really get me thinking are the ones i can really get into.
i completely agree about learning about people that way......*grin* i think i've had more than my fair share of bare-naked moments.

dee. *grin* i can see from your posts and the ones you comment on that you like everything.

I tend to put on a happy mask in public most of the time. However,it does backfire sometimes when too much inside, turns to feeling depressed.

On the other hand most of the time I do honestly feel good about life right now (compared to my 'previous life') Sometimes I have to reflect on the serious to appreciate the present or the light.

I guess I see value in both lighthearted & serious as the mood strikes. Aren't we all in a different headspace from time to time? I'm going to try to follow my instincts & heart and see what happens. I sense you are doing this yourself.

Personally I'm hoping blogging allows me to be more honest and take off my mask more often...even to myself.

Personally, I tend to read more lighthearted posts than too serious ones. It's because IRL, I have too much serious things going on, and sometimes, I feel that it's too much to bear. But it still depends on the mood. c",L*

live......my mask has pretty much completely come off now....and it scares me. i just hope it was the right decision.

lioness that makes a LOT of sense.

I like both kinds of topics...I think you need to strike a balance in life...so it cant be all the serious stuff all the time...or al the jokes all the time
