OK.....I'm having a "black helicopter" moment here....but could it be possible that GWB put forth the idea of comprehensive immigration reform to derail the dems?
1. He chose to do this in his 2nd term....no chance of killing his own re-election chances
2. He knew the Dems would back it and be it's most vocal advocates.

True, but not all hispanics support illegal immigration....especially the ones who worked to get here the right way.....most hispanics are also catholic....most are conservative in nature.....I don't see that playing into the dems favor

I don't know I would argue that blacks tend to be socially conservative as well. Highly religious and the such but they generally vote Democrat.Never underestimate the power of a single grand gesture. -
