Do you ever start writing a post, get almost finished, and then delete it?

I do it all the time.

It seems I sit down and just start streaming thoughts. I’ve become a rambler.  A lot of my posts are never seen by you. Some things I delete for fear of being thought a fool.  Some get deleted because it’s a touch too personal…even for me.   Some things I post and then I wish I hadn’t.

As a general rule, though, I don’t delete many posts after they’ve been published.  Long ago, I deleted most of my erotic writing on a whim.  I sort of regretted that.  I have also put into draft mode a few posts that stirred up painful emotions when I went back and took another look at them.

My blog has become a big deal to me.  It’s really become an extension of my truest personality.  Sometimes I really struggle with what I want to share with you.

Do you?

i never delete blog entries. anything that i once published but put into draft mode--and there are a few of 'em that went from public to draft mode--i hold in case i ever want to look at 'em again.

at the time of this writing i think i have around 4-5 blog entries in draft mode.

I don't delete any of my posts once they are actually published. Well, I take that back, I deleted one in which the formatting got horribly messed up when Soulcast converted from using BBC code to HTML. But other than that one, I haven't deleted any of them.

I haven't really written any posts that have deleted before I have posted them either.
  • CreativeWoman said on Nov 13, 2007....
    Ed,
I haven't counted, but I have several previously published posts stored in draft mode.  They are all older ones.

    Zayda,
It sounds like you have your thoughts collected before you sit down to write.  :-)

I don't delete any of my posts, probably should, some of them don't get read much.  but, i wouldn't think you would worry about that CW.  I can hardly wait from one post to the other of yours.

Rambling or not, I like to hear what is on people's minds.  I was told once, I needed to get a life....well i found it.....here!

Ha!  kind of funny, and kind of true>

Sometimes I start writing a post and then decide to stop mid-way through. I have deleted a few posts written in times of hurt, and one super-angry one not too long ago that only a few people saw, because I decided that the person it was about deserved better than to be called out like that (though I didn't say his/her name). I chose to just walk away and cool down instead of leaving that up and possibly inflicting hurt/anger to match what I felt.

Other than that, I don't delete or usually draft published posts.

I haven't done this so much with my blog, but I've done it very often on forums that I go to and even here when thinking about replying to someone.

In my blog itself, I haven't deleted any yet and I don't really plan to do so.
  • fearing said on Nov 13, 2007....
I think the only reason I ever deleted was that the post got messed up.  I have drafted several and there are a couple I wrote as drafts and never published.
  • Lioness said on Nov 13, 2007....
CW, I experienced writing once and halfway, my mind drifted and I didn't know what to write next. So I didn't finish it. I happened just once so far.

There are posts that I have deleted, and some, have shifted to draft mode too.
  • evil_twin said on Nov 13, 2007....
I've never deleted anything I've actually posted. I've drafted lots of stuff, but never deleted. But there have been posts I've started and then just hit the back button and let it disappear because I realized I had nothing to say. And I've got a couple of posts I wrote out in Word, but I decided not to post them. They were too personal and I didn't think I wanted to post them after all.

I think long and hard about certain things I want to blog. Sometimes I just can't do it because I'm afraid of what everyone would think of it. I'm still anonymous, in that no one here actually knows me, but I don't feel anonymous anymore. And I care what everyone thinks of me because I think of you guys as friends. So that's why some of my posts never make it public. But I save everything, because whatever it was, it was important enough to write. So I owe it to the writing gods not to delete it!

and i deleted it....cause i couldn't stand for everyone and their brother to be reading that much about the deepest parts of me.

I've never deleted anything here and I don't plan on it, unless my family or friends find this site.  Then I'd probably delete it all.

I don't delete because that was the whole purpose of me coming here.  I wanted to put my thoughts out there for people to read.  They aren't always pretty and sometimes I get into pretty personal things I would never admit to anyone, but on here, I have no fears.
  • wombat said on Nov 13, 2007....
Sometimes I delete posts I am in the process of writing--usually because I wake up and realize how dumb they are.  Too bad it is only sometimes, huh?

I discovered that I can't edit the first part, after I have hit "submit"  (although, yes, Ed--there is a way-lol)  so I often get frustrated from starting over and over when I make a typo.  Especially when I have grabbed a link I plan to post also.  I am always unsure if it is "still there in the holding pen" so I go back to find it and copy it all over again!  After about 3 times of this--that is when I wake up and realize the whole thing was dumb anyway!

I deleted all my posts once--and got a message from SC about it!  It appears that one of my posts was no. #1 on google or something--at least that is what the message said.  But once I deleted my posts it messed that up.  (It was my Presidential candidate quiz post--gone now!)

Just two days ago, I started to delete all my posts again--but only deleted two or three and stopped.  I don't know why.
  • Fallyn said on Nov 13, 2007....

  • MissMimi said on Nov 13, 2007....

I also deleted all my erotica, CDub.  I saved it to my computer first though.

Sometimes I get on a deleting kick, but not very often.  Usually when I'm having a bad day, and I'm convinced I am scum.

blogging is a big part of my online activities, too.

  • wombat said on Nov 13, 2007....
Fallyn:  Thank you!  I look back at my stuff and go, what is wrong with you, girl?

Can I add to MissMimi here?

I have bad days (SC related) and think I have really crossed the line.  Some of the things I spill out here, my goodness...and I think I need to delete everything and go hide!

But then, I keep coming back, and all it takes is one person to respond in a positive way to something I said, and I tell myself. "It's ok.  Even if I am foolish, I am WOMBAT!"

    You get what you get!

And that is definitly a good feeling.  Maybe that is what it's all about.

Its awefully difficult to decide actually how far to go.  What I have come to conclude, is that if I had to die, and someone I know in real life had to read it - someone I really love, I wouldn't want them to be hurt, shocked or disappointed.

I suppose its all personal preference - I have also struggled to decide actually how much I am prepared to share.  How much of the past am I willing to bring back, and rethink.  There are some thing better left unsaid.  And also unwritten.

  • crybabylu said on Nov 14, 2007....
wombat:  If you get a letter from SC, how do you get it?  Do they email you?  I deleted at least four over weekend, because hardly anyone even viewed them and they had been up for weeks now, and I thought, guess no one is interested in reading them, so I deleted them.
  • wombat said on Nov 14, 2007....
crybabylu:  No, I did not get "a letter" from SC--just a post from them popped up. It kind of scared me...!

It was no big deal...they just wanted to let me know that when you delete your posts, it decreases "traffic" I guess.

I have yet to figure out the whole principle...I am still trying to be here without actually being here...
  • MissMimi said on Nov 14, 2007....

I resemble this remark.  I can often post the most awful bag of crud, get embarrassed that I wrote it, and delete it.  It's a very Mimi-ish thing to do.  Kind of like a do-over.

If wombie does it too, at least I am in good company.  :)

Hi CW. The only time I delete is if I create a post and get no response. That's only happened once around a holiday a while back. Things on SC were moving slow. I think I would probably delete also if I thought the post was to negative or embarrassing to myself. Other than that, I wouldn't delete my posts unless I left SC permanently.
  • queenparanoia said on Nov 14, 2007....

No, I am too naive I let all go. No, not all that is not true. There are things I keep for my self. Who does not? And the accident of my daughter in law almost year ago. I start talking about it but I have always deleted the post out of consideration for others. So you see it is not all that goes but pretty much. I do like you posts. They are true and honest. You have been sharing your story of illness with us and fighting very bravely no whining there. I adore that.
  • RollingC said on Nov 14, 2007....
I'm not sure if I have deleted posts....except for one that I didn't think it was up to par with the original idea that I had at the time.  I've kept my few posts up and don't see any reason to delete them.  But for sure if I do I'll copy them somewhere.... just for the memories.

Hey CW...I was inspired by you and when my wife brought up an idea for a franchise to start our own Internet business I took the jump and did it.  Wish me luck.    :>)

    pookie,
    I can understand that. :-)

    Tin,
    That's cool.

    fearing,
I have several in draft too. They had been published, but I took them down.

    Lioness,
I start and stop incomplete thoughts all the time.  You seem more focused.  :-)

    evil twin,
You bring up a good point.  I don't really feel totally anonymous anymore either.  I have friends here now.  You guys know me better than anyone.  It matters what you guys think of me.  :-)

    Mark,
Just be yourself.  You'll find everyone is accepting for the most part.  I'll agree that lots of bloggers here do seem like "pros" at it.  They are great communicators.

    Fallyn,
Sometimes it is really hard to decide what we want to reveal about ourselves.  :-)

    lampshade,
I understand how you feel.  I have worked on a lot of deeply personal issues here.

    wombat,
I don't think I have ever read anything of yours that I thought you should delete.  I like all your posts that I have read.  :-)

    Mimi,
I didn't save the majority of mine.  I wish that I had.  Lesson learned.  You are NEVER scum, my dear.  Never.

    wombat,
I like that about blogging too.  Our friends here can really lighten us when we need it.  :-)

    Suddenrain,
I have left my poorly received posts.  It always amazes me what takes off and what doesn't.  I understand your reasoning though.

    danette,
I understand your point.  I've never really ever said anything to purposely hurt anyone on my blog.  It is all told from my point of view.  I'm not going to worry about what might happen after I'm gone.  You sound like a responsible blogger.

    cry,
Sometimes I find that new readers find me through some of my older posts.  It's kind of fun to find what people find interesting later on.

    wombat,
That's pretty impressive that you had something on top with a search engine.  You go girl!

    Mimi,
I took down some things that hurt my heart to re-read.  I don't think you have ever embarrassed yourself. :-)

    queen,
Of course you should leave them if they are important to you.  :-)

    skald,
Thank you.  I love the honesty in your posts too.  :-)

    Rc,
I wish I had copied some of mine.  Oh, well....

Congratulations on your home business!  I hope it's a huge success.

    Alyss,
I have done some editing along the way too.

CW--I don't know that it's that I have my thoughts collected before I sit down to write. That really depends on the post. With some, I tend to think through what I want to say before I start writing them, but with others, I just write from the top of my head. I tend to do a great bit of editing as I go along before I post as well.

I can't count the number of times where I'm about halfway through an entry, and I delete it. Any number of reasons surface as to why, especially if it's three in the morning and the subject matter turns out to yield little content and I just want to go to bed.

I'm more conscious of what I post on Soulcast, as opposed to my other blog. I use my other blog as more of a way to flesh out personal issues, or to give people I've known for a long time a good idea of what I've been up to. I've never deleted what I've already posted on Soulcast, but in the three or four years I've had my other one, I've only had to delete once.
