in my post update: we were robbedsheltercrow pointed out the english mistakes i had on my post. although i appreciate her comment this is my response...

  1. first of all english is not my first subject so sometimes it's not really good. i'm a filipina living in the philippines. my first language is hiligaynon and tagalog so you see sometimes my english is not that good.
  2. i'm not really good on language and grammar i rather do math and other logical stuff but i love to read.
  3. and i know sometimes my spelling is not correct because i'm not a good speller.
  4. i don't capitalize my letters because it's my style i have been blogging in here for a year now and everybody close to me can see that it's my style.
  5. and sometimes you could see that the beginning of my sentences or the way i construct it are wrong and once again it's my style.
  6. so far youre the second person who have critisize my writing the first one was a girl whom i deleted because her comments was hurtful and she attack me more on being a bitch than my writing style.
  7. i appreciate of you pointing out my grammar mistakes but i stayed long enough in soulcast to realize that...

people here dont care about grammars or spelllings in blogs... they care about the people who wrote it. that's why i love this place. and honestly that's why people like me here...

can you imagine the queen of paranoia if i blog differently? it's part of my style. it's part of my attitude. it's part of me.

so thank you for pointing it out. but i'm sorry to say i'll continue to write this way. i know your concern is that people may critisize me. dont worry... i dont care about them. let them critisize me... because in the end of the day i know what i put here is the real me.

the real queen paranoia...

and i have 150 subscribers and the first page of most popular to prove that...

p.s.

MsStar39; thanks for defending me but i hope you and sheltercrow wont fight about this... please no more fighting!!! i dont want tot stress over that too... okay?

let's have peace and drink some beer!!!!

keep on blogging!!!

You might have noticed that i gave up trying with it! Your English is fine! If anyone says it is not..well their head should be boiled in oil!   lol   keep blogging girl...you do great!

Queenie--I think you manage very well in English for someone who is not a native speaker of the language. You write in English better than some native speakers of English that I have encountered over the years.

And frankly, correcting your English like that says more about the person who corrected it than it does about you.
  • skald said on Nov 11, 2007....
Queen. We are not writing in our native language. I wonder if Shelercrow can write in an other language. We love you Queeny. We get your meaning and it's not mine to say anything about your English as I´m not a native sleeker either.

ruppert7: thanks rupe!!! dont worry about your tagalog you'll be just fine if you keep practicing.. =)

zayda: thanks zayda but honestly i dont mind if sheltercrow commented it about it. it's actually flattering to know that she cared enough to correct me... =)

skald: i love you too skald! and i know english is not you first laungage as well but i still understand you!!! =)

  • sheltercrow said on Nov 11, 2007....

Well, this is a surprise. I cannot express the profound emptiness I experienced for your making my crude retort to your ambiguous use of English as the subject for you post. Like I mentioned in my response to your polite email, I will put on my tinfoil hat and go on.

Maybe I should learn some hiligaynon and tagalog? I’ll have to check them out and try and write you in tagalog. Is that possible?

  • sheltercrow said on Nov 11, 2007....

    I couldn’t agree more.

I must apologize because I see the error of my comment, I was subconsciously manifesting the misunderstanding I have for my fellow human beings. I work on the unconscious understanding that myself that all I meet, with the except of the mentally challenged I suppose, are of equal intelligence.

For those that are new to my disastrous use of English this was my crude retort to a crude retort…

I worry about their English because I do not want them to be victimized by the subconscious desire of some people to criticize others because of their English.

Because of a friendly concern for the possibility of a negative perception by others whereby others may equate intelligence with linguistics and spelling, I make these observations and suggestions, not to criticize as you may have inferred but to inform. I will admit that my method is crude but my motive is good.

I have many friends who are quite intelligent but have a less than an enviable grasp of the English language. I have to qualify what I say to them in the same manner that I am qualifying this to you. With respect.

With this construction I do lay down my hammer.

  • queenparanoia said on Nov 11, 2007....
sheltercrow: i didnt mean to attack you with this post, i just want to say my side. and i appreciate what you said but dont worry about me. i dont care if people critisize my english. all i wanted is that when i blog people would understand what i'm talking about.so let's puit this matter behind us. in soulcast i want to make friends not enemies.

I think it's an awesome thing when I read someone that's not speaking (writing) their native language.  I wish I could learn another and another and actually speak AND write it!

As an American and a native English speaker, I am often surprised by how well non-native speakers express themselves here (and elsewhere online).

Maybe it isn't a very representative sample, but I'm often impressed that unless someone tells me (sometimes more than once) that English is not their first language that I would otherwise be unable to tell.

I do think that it's a shame that we judge individuals' intelligence by how fluent they are in a language that we understand, but since language is the primary method of moving an idea from our head into another then I guess it is understandable.

Understandable, at least, in the fact that a person has to make a conscious effort not to judge someone else based on that criterion.

  • ellamae14 said on Nov 12, 2007....
queen your english is good! we're not in an english class and we are not being graded here for grammar. The fact that you can express yourself and can understand written english is something you should be proud of. In my work experiences, i've known a lot of engineers and managers and even CEO's who can't even construct a simple english paragraph. But they can do their job effectively and that's what matters. and hey, they have secretaries to do it for them. you see, I'm quite lazy too, I don't capitalized the beginning of my sentences and the i's. what's the point? I don't have all day to do proofreading. I just want to express my views. you're fine queen! don't stop blogging the way that you do. I like reading you because you're you. and it's real. :)
  • hotaka said on Nov 12, 2007....
queenP, if I started correcting grammar, spelling and vocabulary errors on SC I would be busy for a day or two with my own posts first before I moved on to people with English as a second langauge. As you said, what matters is what the person is saying. But I understand that sheltercrow was probably just trying to help and it seems he/she has been a little miffed by this.
I think of this place as more of a party room where everyone is just chatting and sharing ideas and experiences. In conversation people make mistakes all the time. It's no biggie. Just keep on talking. If someone can't understand then it's time to ask for clarification.

Let me clarify again… without having to be so craven.

I must apologize, not because I see the error of my comment, though it was crass, but because I forgot who I was writing to; you seem to have triggered the contempt I have for some of my fellow human beings. I work on the understanding that all I meet, excepting the mentally challenged I suppose, are of equal intelligence.

For those that are new to my discordant use of English… who cares? Grow up and stop sobbing and blubbering all the time.

I could care less about their English; let them be victimized it part of their MO.

I hardly care how others may equate intelligence with linguistics and spelling, I make these observations and suggestions to annoy, enjoy and inform; and I will admit that my method is crude but my motive is far worse.

I have many friends who are quite intelligent but have a less than an enviable grasp of the English language. I have to qualify what I say to them in the same manner that I am qualifying this to you, with dignity not craven phony respect. I know them quite well, I know you not.

At least ALIEN had the guts to simply delete my comments and tell me why. He didn’t go off and whine like a child having a tantrum or manipulate his audience for sympathy. Block me and delete my comments. This is just freaking childish and infantile.

For any of you that have a problem with my posts, I look forward to not reading your stuff as I hope you delete or block mine. I will do my best to stay clear of these ditto-head whine fests

I will assume that I am blocked and that this comment will be deleted.

    Good day and good enough.

Queen, you are the epitome of graciousness!  Thank God for spell check because I can't spell graciousness!  Apparently I can't spell spell check either, or neither...whichever.
I believe sheltercrow is channeling my late father.  He never listened to, or in fact was interested at all in what a person said, only in how they said it.  That included his children.  2 were stutterers and I blame it on him.  We stopped talking when he entered the room.  He wasn't born and raised in North Jersey like we were and he hated our accents!  Can you imagine?  I once asked my mother if I could have scrambled eggs for lunch and he wouldn't let her make them until I said "eggs" instead of "aigs". I was only 6 or 7 maybe, and hungry! Poor little me..

Anyhow, it must be magic living in sheltercrow's world.
Good for you for taking the high road here, and good for Zayda for giving it to sheltercrow with both guns.  That was fun to read.

Take your hammer home, honey, and continue to sit and look at yourself in the mirror.

IMHO Sheltercrow needs to STFU.  Ya know, there are more important things in life than criticizing other people's grammar.  Seriously.  I have a Bachelor's Degree in English, so I'm a bit of a grammar Nazi, but I still appreciate it when people use any other language than their native tongue to communicate.  I speak several languages and I know that writing is usually the last thing that people master.  You write very well in English, mistakes notwithstanding, so good for you!

I haven't started a blog. Not sure if I want to. Was this a blog war? Kind of funny really. I am a humor columnist. I am also a proof reader and editor. That said, let's have some fun. Let your hair down. This isn't a formal affair is it? Can I bring ain't to the party? If I write, It was a lovely nite , will you understand me? Can I peel off my proper sentence construction, throw on some relaxed fit grammer and jam with ya all. I get just plain tired of being correct, poppin' Tylenol, slammin' down a shot of tequila and stressing over , too, to, their, there, i before e and I really love run-on sentences and having fun with words, like mixing them up and deliBERTY mispelling 'em. My favorite ending in many of my columns is, 'Absatively Posolutely'  I actually had someone write to the paper and they enclosed one of my columns with two words circled in red and SP next to the circle. I think my column might be a tad bit too down home for them to grasp. The English language is the most complicated and the most incorrect language in the history of mankind unless you include pig latin which I never could grasp even with my superior intelligence. Bottom line . . .Have fun, relax and be glad you aren't a soldier in Iraq, the man down the street with no arms or one of the million or so people lying in a hospital bed or worse yet Hospice. Don't sweat the small stuff and please don't look for mispelled words and grammer mistakes in my message because you will find them, which will cause you unnnnecccesssary stress!

This is her second language. How well could you do in your second language? She makes herself understood. No way in hell I could do that in anything but English. It's silly to think she falls short, because she's way beyond us all. The best I can do is la plume de ma tante and maricon chocha criqua puta pato bendejo arana pelua chichanda mira mira yo so un hombre sincero guantanamera cuchifritos.

lfbno7; hehehee youre so funny... =) by the way what language is that? =)
  • lfbno7 said on Nov 13, 2007....
La plume de ma tante is French, from a song. It means the pen of my aunt.

The rest is Spanish. Most of it is curses. Maricon, chocha, criqua, puta, pato, bendejo, arana pelua, and chichanda are all dirty words. Mira mira means look look, and is what all the Puerto Ricans in Brooklyn yell from their high rise windows to their friends downstairs. Yo soy un hombre sincero is the first line of the song Guantanamera, and means I am a sincere man. Cuchifritos is a Puerto Rican food. When I was a teenager I lived in a Puerto Rican neighborhood in Brooklyn, where I learned mira mira from hearing it a million times out windows. As for the curses, I went to sleepaway summer camp and there were lots of Puerto Rican boys in the camp, and those were the things they called each other.
