I was doing the NYTimes crossword last night. There were two words (say 23 across and 24 across) with clues something like,
23. (see 24 across)
24. What happens when a person does 23 across.
For 23 across, I had "C__ES".
For 24 across, I ahd "AR___AL".
And the first answers that came to mind were "COMES" and
"AROUSAL". I have done a lot of crossword puzzles, and I don't
think I've ever come across a dirty double entrendre like that before.
I think they may exclude words like "CAN'T" and "SHOT" since they are
only one letter different from a dirty word.
Once upon a time I wrote a program for a puzzle publisher that would
make cryptograms, and it had a feature that checked for accidental
dirty words which was a bit interesting since it required a file of all
the dirtiest things in the English language.
In last night's puzzle, the answers were COMES and ARRIVAL (but you already figured that out, I'm sure.)
