seriously: i love it when i type something, usually in response to someone else, and i come up w/ a phrasing that afterwards, i look at it and think, "hey, that wasn't bad!"

so let's have an opportunity to share some of the wordsmithing i see so regularly here on SC. and unlike my norm, i'l go first.

sometimes, i impress myself when (SIIMW)...

he quoth:
while i'm no fan of the bush administration, i do have to say one thing: there hasn't been a terrorist attack since 9/11.

i quoth:
you cannot actually prove that bush's assaults against civil liberties--or human dignity--have yielded a scintilla of actionable intelligence that has foiled another terrorist attack.

civil liberties are not the ammo with which terrorism is combated: civil liberties are the foundation upon which this nation was built.

so how about you?

i impress myself all the time but i never remember the things i've said. and i generally think i'm being too stupid too, so even if i could remember something impressive i've said, i don't think i'd be brave enough to actually say i was impressed with myself.

Fallyn, you are by no means even close to being stupid!  Shame On You!  Thinking such horrid and untrue thoughts.  (I am rubbing my index fingers, well I will when I get done typing.)

However, I too impress myself and can't remember most of the time what I said or did that impressed me.  When I was writing and editing the newspaper I had a column and one of my contributions was titled, 'I Amaze Myself! - (With My Own Stupidity.)'

It was a funny story about how I once killed 94 chicks and a couple of other odd things I caught myself doing.  The real funny part is I don't catch these mistakes until after I have completed them.

I did say a really impressive thing, I thought, in one of my articles about how people behave toward celebrities and others that don't deserve to be praised or pitied.  Let's see if I can remember it......

Oh - here is one of them.  Look at the media section of that post.  It is not high brow just well written.

Then there is this one - Yes, men have their place and they are well suited for that place when they fit in it.  That place just doesn't happen to be in my home or my life!

NO - I Am Not The One.

Now that I think about it, I have said a lot of well spoken things.  What I would like to know is why it is that we always remember the little things we said or wrote wrong, found them embarrassing only to discover, after all that guilt, that no one else even heard you or read your work?

Ed, I impress myself all the time.  The problem is I rarely impress others.  ha ha!

    *laughing* i like that. inspiration.

Nothing springs to mind, Ed.  I try to offer words of encouragement when I comment.  I don't think I have said anything too impressive.  My own blog is often a rambling of my thoughts on any given day.  Again, I don't find that too impressive.

On my "More Baby Kitties" post there was a good play of words going in the comments for a while.  It was more fun than impressive.

Um... last night... in a gaming session..

Psychic guy says: Soldier Boy is being a tool.

I say: Yeah. But he's being Soldier Leader's tool since he doesn't have one of his own.

Generally, my good stuff is directly in response to someone else and context specific. To myself and psychic guy, that was effing FUNNY.

ed, I love the phrase you wrote.

I think that I occasionally have a clever turn of phrase, and I feel quite pleased with myself when I do. Even if no one else does.

Eh, anything I can come up with doesn't really count. It's not intelligent wordsmithing that sticks with me so much as silly stuff I wrote that cracks me up if I read back over it later.

I did re-write the pledge and the national anthem once a while back. They're not really clever though, just...meh.

that was witty, starchini, i can't think of any turn of a phrase right now.
  • hotaka said on Nov 10, 2007....
I do love coming up with some creative word play or spontaneously fitting in a historical or scientific reference in an amusing manner. Sadly, I can never remember when I am clever with words and nobody can remind me either. The problem with on-liners and spontaneity is that they come on the spur of the moment and then disappear like water poured on sand.
  • Fallyn said on Nov 10, 2007....
hotaka...you did one right there. *grin* nice turn of phrase that.
  • hotaka said on Nov 10, 2007....

    fallyn: you are not stupid.

inspiration: hey, i read that one! :> but yeah, i wonder about that too, sometimes. happens to me all the time. :>

fearing: nonsense, you impress me much of the time when you post. :p

CW: i should point out that as a rule, your opinion of yourself is low enough that i cannot take what you say at face value. :>

LG: o, nice snark! of course, that is after all your specialty... :D

TS: thank you, you're very kind to say so and of course, i happen to share that one. hm...should you think of something later, swing by here & post it. :>

eilan: well clearly we'd have to start w/ your suspect reading comprehension... :D

mamie: no, it isn't. it's just that you like a bad football team...[ducks]

donna: no problem, all you gotta do is join either flickr or glowfoto. once you've uploaded an image, there should be a box that shows a bunch of HTML. copy & paste that into a comment or blog entry, and it should display your picture.

infernal: i wann see those bowdlerizations!

    starchini: :D

dee: like i said to TS, if you remember, pop by & post it! :>

hotaka: your last blog entry was chock-a-block about the mountain w/ wonderful wordplay, hotaka: don't sell ourself short, hm? btw, i agree w/ fallyn & inspiration. :>

skald: well, the blog entry was more about how you guys use words, though! :>

hotaka, I do like how you turn a phrase!  My son was reading this over my shoulder and he says you remind him of my old timey sayings like, "Close enough to scare the bastard to death,"  or my cussing which usually amounts to 'HAIR ON FIRE!'
    hehehe

It is harder to share pain than it is joy. Sometime with the help of friends and family, we endure our pains. But sometimes we have to stand alone. But if you maintain a postive outlook and endure cheerfully, we will find more company along the way....
