Hmm...lets see. I used to be real creative with names for my pets, they usually havea story or some significance to them. One of my cats is Goliath, because when I got him his was small enough to fit the palm of my hand, but had an attitude like a giant. My other cat is Scarlett, well her full name is Katie Scarlett O'Hara Hamiliton Kennedy Butler (yes GWTW is one of my favorite books and movie) Her attitude was exactly like Scarlett O'Hara.
My dogs I let the Kids and Husband name. One dog is Aurora, but my daughter at the time wanted to name her Sleeping Beauty (her favorite Princess) and hubby named the other Kingston, since we love Jamaica.
My baby boy chihuahua is named Murphy. After Murphy's Law. Because that force is strong in my life, even when choosing pets.
Murphy's original owner waffled back and forth over giving him to us for so long it drove us nuts. When he finally was brought to me, I was at work, couldn't leave, and it was a Friday the thirteenth of a full moon.
He spent the last two hours of my day in my apron pocket peeking his tiny fawn chin over the edge.
The cat Mist is white and gray and when we rescued him, he was all fur weighing no more than mist.
Our orange tabby is named Mina because we THOUGHT and were told he was a she and Mina fit with Murphy and Mist and just seemed to suit the little thing.
Now he is MeanER and THAT suits him perfectly as he's about two years younger than the other two and is a pouncer. A claws to wall pouncer!
Wow. Nice post Fallyn. Fun descriptions.
We have now, and have had so many animals in the past...not including ones I that I owned before marriage and in my childhood...hmmm. I must be selective I see ; )
My first pets came when I was less than a year old. I named my big gray cat Smokey, although not for his color...but for my favorite song at the time..."On Top Of Old Smokey"! My dog was a Weimeraner named Ike. I took my nap on him everyday. There are photos somewhere to prove it : ) I also ate dogfood with him, however that has not been recorded for posterity!
He also ran out to greet the milkman every morning. He and Ike were buddies : )The milk trucks didn't have doors (on the street side anyway) and Ike would jump inside of the truck to eat an already open pint of vanilla icecream that the milkman had ready for him. He would eat the icecream and jump out on the next block behind our house and run down the hill to our back yard!
As to HIS name...My Dad did helped me. I was too little to be a registered voter and he was named after President Eisenhower. : ) You know, "I like IKE"? : )
We have five new heeler pups (we breed heelers) now and I think we have most of them named, even though people will rename them of course ; ) But NAMING is so much fun...as this post implies! My favorite is the little runt, Blossom. So named for the bright orange spot on her rump right under her other wise blue heeler tail! I have never seen a puppy with a cute petootie! She will go for top $
My spouse got me a long haired chihuahua for my first birthday after our wedding. We named her Ruby Begonia. I too once had a big fat cat named Roscoe. Some names just seem to fit.
Some names do not seem to fit ; )
In the 60's my middle brother, 10 years my senior, lived in a big old hippie house downtown. They gave me a kitten. I named him Love, of course ; ) Love grew up to be quite the bruiser! Very intimidating! It must have been his name...kind of like "A Boy Named Sue"!
My children gave me a parakeet three years ago. He is blue with a yellow face, so, for that reason, and because I loved the song: His name is Moon Shadow.
Great post. A really fun read Fallyn.
