Korean tourists rose by 16.9% from 2005 to 2006 while Americans increased by only 7.4%. From 1985 to 2006, tourist arrivals from Korea increased almost 10 times.

The number of Korean tourists last year is equivalent to 20.1% of the total tourist arrival of 2,843,345 and was slightly higher than that of the Americans. The United States, previously the largest source of foreign tourists in the country, had only 20% or 567,355 tourist arrivals.

Other tourist markets in the top five are Japan (421,808), China (133,585) and Taiwan (114,955).
