Will high gas prices keep you from traveling this holiday season?

My parents live just 45 minutes from me. So, I will still see them for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. The price of gas won't be that big of a factor for me. I would still probably go even if they were farther away. I would scrimp in other areas so I could afford it.

My husband's parents live even closer. Dang, can't use the price of gas as an excuse not to go there for either holiday.

I know that many of you might have to travel to go home for the holidays. Will the price of gas make a difference in your plans?

No, the family I want to see is close by.  If I had to fly I might have to reconsider.

    UI,
Fortunately, flying has never been an issue for me either.  I'm sure that might weigh heavy on my budget if it did.

My parents are traveling to visit us for Thanksgiving, and as far as I know, the price of gas is not deterring them from doing so.

Typically, we would travel to visit them, but since the little man is in first grade this year, and he doesn't get out of school until 3 p.m. the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, it would have made the 9 hour trip impossible for us regardless of the gas prices.  So, my parents, who are retired, are coming here instead, and I'm cooking Thanksgiving dinner for the 5 of us.

We will be traveling there for Christmas, and, so far, the price of gas is not changing our travel plans.  I will probably try to save some extra money for gas between now and then.  The only thing that will keep us from going is if the hubby gets a new job (he applied for one) and we end up moving over the Christmas holidays.

honestly, while gas prices are irritating, it won't keep me from seeing family or friends--but then again, i don't have all that far to go, either.

How far does it have to be for people to fly? Not that flying is a consideration for me, what with a family of five and everything. It's way out of my budget. That's one reason we drove to Minnesota this summer instead of flying.

Not because of gas prices, but I don't really plan on going anywhere for the holidays anyway. The wife's parents live about 4-5 hours away (220 miles) and my parents live about 3-4 hours away (150 miles). Driving is no big deal, but I can't wait until we can afford a newer vehicle -- a van instead of a coupe.

    Zayda,
I'm sitting here thinking what a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner you'll prepare!  I think your parents will be in for a treat.  Sometimes it is nice to be the one receiving guests.

Best of luck to your husband and the possibility of the new job.

    Ed,
The gas prices don't seem to keep me home either.  Family and friends are my most frequent destinations year round.

    Tin,
Would you believe I've never flown?  I don't even have a real grip on what airfare is these days.

I'll bet a van would give your family more room to spread out.  :-)

I'm too far to be going home for the holidays--so that isn't an issue there.  I will fly if something comes up and I need to go.

But--if gas keeps getting much higher, I won't be able to afford to go to work-- to make the money to pay for the gas-- to go to work.....

airfares are high. I wanted to go to Orlando, Fla. to see a new baby in the family and looks like neither Thanksgiving nor Christmas will be viable options with the high cost of holiday plane tickets.

Maybe later in the year. A non-holiday.

I will be going two hours away to the desert to see my Dad though!

    wombat,
I heard some guy on the news say that gas may rise to $4 a gallon by next summer.  Gulp!

    skald,
I'm glad your family is near you.

    MMI,
Your son is very sweet!  :-)

    PT,
The trip to see your dad sounds like fun.  :-)  I hope you get to see the new baby soon.
