(our summer gathering, for those who wish to revisit it)

My apologies for not doing this sooner - I did say I would as soon as autumn arrived to stay where I am. I didn't think it would take so long. I realize the weather/descriptions won't match a lot of what you guys are experiencing, but it is what it is. :)

You are invited once again to SoulCast's front porch - but this time, the lazy heat of summer is gone. In its stead, a crisp autumn afternoon unfurls before you. The very air bespeaks anticipation, remembered holiday cheer and the comfort of home.

You are at home here, and no matter how far away you've been, there is still a place just for you. The wide porch provides sweeping views of the distant mountains, dappled now by sun-fired oranges, reds, and golds. They wear their splendor just for you, you know.

Fresh apple cider sits on a small, unobtrusive table in one corner, and the warm smell of pumpkin pie wafts by. Hot cocoa is also available, if that's more to your liking. Somewhere, someone has a fireplace going - the scent of wood smoke mingles with cinnamon and things you can't quite place, and it seems as if time has been suspended.

Stay as long as you like. :) You are always welcome here.

glad to be your first visitor, my friend. but i'm on my way to somewhere else, so i'll just take a quick gulp of cocoa and be on my way... that is, if you don't mind :-) but i'll come back, i promise.

I thought I was the only one awake around here.  I'd love some apple cider.  Sure is pretty here.

[sends a thermal mug of cocoa with moon]

You know you're always welcome, even if you can't stay. I'll look forward to your return later, moon. :)

Actor: Nah, I'm almost always awake obscenely late (on EST here), just not always posting. [hands Actorguy a cup of cider] Hope you're faring well.

I'm doing very well.  Hoping to spend more time around here in the next few weeks as I am between plays.  Next show starts in December.
  • the_infernal_optimist said on Nov 03, 2007....
What role will you be playing?

    ~I
  • Actorguy said on Nov 03, 2007....
I'm directing actually.  Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice.
  • the_infernal_optimist said on Nov 03, 2007....
Cool! That's a good one. :) Do you prefer directing?
  • Actorguy said on Nov 04, 2007....
I guess it depends on the play and the part. Last winter I played Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman, and I could have done that show forever!  But I just finished Mambo Italiano last week and I was definitely ready to move on.  I think I prefer the classics because there is just so much more "meat" there.  Acting and directing are so different that I find it hard to chose between them.
  • quietone said on Nov 04, 2007....

Kyle.....i am in my gym pants only because i have already walked the dog....

Can i leave him run in your backyard, Infernal? He loves chasing ANYTHING....lol..

  • Mr_Box said on Nov 04, 2007....

Gingery, you and I can share the pie. And a little birdie told me this pie doesn't have any calories because it's fictional.

So we can eat the whole thing without guilt. Right on.

  • Mr_Box said on Nov 04, 2007....

I like my pumpkin pie with whipped cream on it. That makes it taste even better.

    How about you?

What's Italian pumpkin pie like? I'm curious.

  • MissMimi said on Nov 04, 2007....
Good morning, afternoon, whatever it is to all!  I brought along something carbonated and caffeinated -- I need the help waking up...

Sunday afternoons in fall are always quiet around here.  The B-man is into football, which is putting it mildly, so I get to amuse myself.

Infernal, I brought a few quilts in case somebody gets chilled.
  • gingersoul said on Nov 04, 2007....
Mr. B......well...first of all, we dont have this extraordinaire invention that is canned pumpkin pie........time saver!
We have to do it from scratch... you can have a vegetable pie and a sweet pie...
Usually for the sweet version we use peeled oranges, apples, raisins, vanilla and puree' pumpkin......and yes, we have to cut it and puree' ..i dont know if now they have canned puree' pumpkin ...i never seen it.....my mom has alwasy puree' it.....it takes time....
but in the winter afternoon the kitchen starts to smell so good....while the pumpkin rests with the apples and the vanilla my mom prepares the dough for the crust .
Its so good..... and just different from the American pie.... when i ate my first slice of pumpkin pie here i thought it was way too sweet but believe me... i got used to it immediately.......

now i can swallow a whole pie in a nanosecond....so beware.....
and are you kidding? whipped cream?..yeah, babe.....lol....

    Mimi.......hello, dear......wanna a slice too?
  • Mr_Box said on Nov 04, 2007....

I've brought the whipped cream with me, Gingery. Be careful, because this could get out of hand.

If you can swallow a whole pie in a nanosecond, I'm going to have to fight you for a piece.

    Your Italian pie sounds tasty.

  • gingersoul said on Nov 04, 2007....

Oh yeah?......you have no idea how fast this can get out of control.....LOL....

Yes, our pie is yummi..... i am virtually baking one so you and our friends can virtually taste it.....

  • Mr_Box said on Nov 04, 2007....
I can virtually smell the pie cooking, Gingery. Let me know when it's done.
  • gingersoul said on Nov 04, 2007....
Box..the time you finish to read my comment on your online flirting post...the pie is done....easy like a pie....LOL...
  • the_infernal_optimist said on Nov 04, 2007....
Pajamas are fine by me! :) Coffee? Always. No rules (except courtesy) here!

Mr_Box, you can have pie whenever you'd like (well, whenever ginger says - I want a slice of that one, too!), and ginger, your dog is more than welcome to run around in the yard. :) There are plenty of squirrels and birds here!

  • gingersoul said on Nov 04, 2007....

hi again, infernal. hmm... seems like i missed all the pumpkin pie fun. but that's all right, my country didn't have any such tradition anyway. this time of year signals the best season here, where i am. flowers in bloom, clear cloudless mornings, a bit windy in the afternoon, cold nights and dawns, and pine scent in the air. imagine a gorgeous autumn day in montana... but instead, a freak storm just came in and disrupted all my monday skeds. hey, you still have some hot cocoa left, my friend? ((brrr)) i could sure use a cup or three :-)

  • the_infernal_optimist said on Nov 05, 2007....

((takes slow sips, enjoying the soft warm glow of friendship))

infernal, you've read my peripheral kid blog, haven't you? it's peripheral moments like these that i really love. about the storm... it's actually a normal occurrence that everyone here routinely copes with. like, i hear it on the radio and see the gray skies, say to myself, "oh, storm coming up. gotta take my king leonidas umbrella today, wear my fireman's boots and fisherman's parka, venture into the colorful sea of umbrellas, and do the nyc sidewalk shuffle..."

it's actually a welcome event when my dreary monday skeds are disrupted. that's why i can blog at this hour. hooray for unscheduled monday storms! :-)

    kin i have another cup o'cocoa ma'am infernal? ;-)
