I am a big fan of PBR bull riding.  This weekend the World Champion will be decided at the World Finals in Las Vegas.  I don't follow many sports well enough to even know the names of the players, but I know the names of all the cowboys....and the bucking bulls.

I can tell you that Justin McBride is the points leader.  JB Mooney and Guillerme Marchi are second and third.   Any of those three could win the title  depending on how  many bulls they ride during the finals.  I'm rooting for Marchi.  I don't like McBride.  He's full of himself in an aw shucks kind of way that drives me nuts. Mooney is young.  He's got a world championship in him, but Marchi has been runner up twice and I think he's due. There are 45 cowboys who have made the final cut and are competing for prize money in the finals.

It's big money and big business these days.

I can tell you about the bulls.  They have their own race for bull of the year.  I would like to see it go to Reindeer Dippin' or Scene Of The Crash.  All the bulls in the PBR Built Ford Tough series are mean, nasty and ready to buck.  The cowboys refer to them as athletes.  The stock contractors make mucho dinero off of these bulls through their breeding programs.

For me it's 8 seconds of pure fun.

Why do I like PBR bull riding so much?

It's hard to say.  I'm sure it's partly because I'm a country girl.  It's partly because of the determination of the cowboys.  They are tough.  They get bucked off.  They get stepped on and hung up. They ride hurt and grit it out.  They don't complain about their injuries.  They just get the job done.  They have a no quit attitude. They put out the effort and follow through.

I have a lot of respect for them.  Maybe I have some sort of John Wayne fixation.  I like these kind of men.

If you have never watched the PBR this would be a good weekend to start.  You'll find it on the Versus network.  I know I'll be watching.  I wish I was there live in Vegas.

What is your favorite sport?

Mine is mixed martial arts. My wife likes to watch the rodeo when we stumble across it on tv, which is usually bull riding. I don't know what the letters PBR mean. But I watch Versus too, and maybe my show comes on right after yours. It's called WEC Wreckage or World Extreme Cagefighting somethingorother. I like the way Versus is taking sports that aren't so mainstream and making them available.

pro football. it's illogical as i'm not really into sports, but there it is.

i'm really looking forward to the new england/indianapolis game tomorrow: 2 undefeated teams meet, only one remains. it should be a really good game to match.

    lfb,
Have you seen the promos on Versus for the new Dennis Miller sports commentary show?   I'm kind of looking forward to that.  I have seen the cage fighting show a couple of times.  Those people look tough too.

    Ed,
I've never really gotten into pro football.  I do follow the local university team...and am the the proud aunt of a high school football player.  Growing up, we never watched much sports.  It's interesting to note that lately I've seen a shift with my parents regarding sports.  They seem to be catching my nephew's enthusiasm.  :-)

Do you have a favorite in the New England/Indianapolis game?

CW, A few years ago I worked out with fighters like the ones in cage fighting. We didn't try to hurt each other. We were just working on our moves. It was a lot of fun, and very technical. What's even more fun is co-ed jiu jitsu. You are so close to each other that someone can get pregnant. I'd rather wrestle with girls than boys any day.

CW: i'd definitely prefer that indianapolis wins. there've been a few scandals that darken my formerly positive opinion of new england.

    queen,
Some of them are pretty cute!

    bery,
I think that it is more fun to play volleyball than to watch it.  If I knew someone playing that might be different though.
