I am a big fan of PBR bull riding. This weekend the World Champion will be decided at the World Finals in Las Vegas. I don't follow many sports well enough to even know the names of the players, but I know the names of all the cowboys....and the bucking bulls.
I can tell you that Justin McBride is the points leader. JB Mooney and Guillerme Marchi are second and third. Any of those three could win the title depending on how many bulls they ride during the finals. I'm rooting for Marchi. I don't like McBride. He's full of himself in an aw shucks kind of way that drives me nuts. Mooney is young. He's got a world championship in him, but Marchi has been runner up twice and I think he's due. There are 45 cowboys who have made the final cut and are competing for prize money in the finals.
It's big money and big business these days.
I can tell you about the bulls. They have their own race for bull of the year. I would like to see it go to Reindeer Dippin' or Scene Of The Crash. All the bulls in the PBR Built Ford Tough series are mean, nasty and ready to buck. The cowboys refer to them as athletes. The stock contractors make mucho dinero off of these bulls through their breeding programs.
For me it's 8 seconds of pure fun.
Why do I like PBR bull riding so much?
It's hard to say. I'm sure it's partly because I'm a country girl. It's partly because of the determination of the cowboys. They are tough. They get bucked off. They get stepped on and hung up. They ride hurt and grit it out. They don't complain about their injuries. They just get the job done. They have a no quit attitude. They put out the effort and follow through.
I have a lot of respect for them. Maybe I have some sort of John Wayne fixation. I like these kind of men.
If you have never watched the PBR this would be a good weekend to start. You'll find it on the Versus network. I know I'll be watching. I wish I was there live in Vegas.
