    Shaking my head, too...although it brings to mind a day when the power was out due to an ice storm.  My (controlling) ex, fixed breakfast using only the propane heater.....
     
    But then again--if the microwave is "too slow" something is askew....

    It's a guy thing. Trust me. And it is cool! I once made a grilled cheese sandwich using an iron, just because I wanted to see if it would work. I'm guessing your dad didn't really think the microwave was too slow. He just wanted to see how awesome it would be to cook something with a torch :-P
