I put this picture in my last post but not many people looked at it. It is taken in Arles in the city where Van Gogh was and I think it is inspired form him in a way. lol  I even marked the picture. No one has responded to this picture. So what do you think.

I will go on with my travel story. I hope the few that read it will like it. In the end not quite in the end thought is my story of a dreadful night.

skald ~ I saw that picture.  I see it again..I love it..it makes me feel serene and small compared to the vastness of the universe.  :)  I can also see where it might have inspired Van Goghs stary stary night.

It reminds me of fire Skald, a fire in the sky. I've seen vast forest fires here and flames shooting five hundred feet into the air.

It's a beautiful picture and I think it deserves a post of it's own.

that picture puts me in mind of the old saying "red skies at night, sailors delight". it's very striking, skald: that vivid red really leaps off my monitor!

Skald......you know how much i love clouds...these ones are simply magnificent...

I could use this pic for my screen saver....:-)

Van Gogh is one of my favorite artist......i cant even start to tell you how envious i was of you when you said you were going to Arles...and now...even these clouds....stunning..:-)

This pale blue reminds me of one of Raffaello or Tiziano skies....

How much beauty one can take in?

    Dear Quiet. Thanks
    Wombat dear , thanks too.
    Infernal  Same to you thanks
Mobil  That must be awful.  thanks Mobil
Ed.  I know that saying too and it seems to be true. Red skies in the morning, sailors warning, red skies in the night sailors delight. We say that the morning red moistures and the evening red betters. Thanks Ed

Skald, this is stunning. My husband and I use to chase sunsets.  We would jump in the car and follow the sunset, looking for that one moment when the fire started, seconds before the sun actually set.  This picture looks like that moment.

Skald, that is a stunning photo!!  I love that kind of picture.  Its wonderful to think that Van Gogh probably saw many sunsets like that too. . .its also amazing to think that even though he was deeply troubled that he was touched by such beauty.

Mamie.  That is exactly how it was Mamie. Thanks.
Twylarants.  Hello.  I see that you and your husband love beautify and the nature. I used to sit in my grannies kitchen as a kid and see the sun go into the ocean. That was beautiful. I think you are right I caught that moment. It was my luck to be sitting outside just then. Thank you.
Me- Myself and I  I like your blog name.  Love the phase heaven and earth shell meat. Take care and keep smiling. Smile from me.
    Fearing. Thanks.

My friend. Yes, he was so troubled. I also came to the hospital where he was. It is not a hospital now. He was also so kind. I once read his biography. It does not keep you untouched.  Yes, he still saw the beauty. luv

ed -- heh, I grew up with that saying too.

red sky at night, sailor's delight
red sky in morning, sailors take warning.

  • hotaka said on Nov 07, 2007....

Hi skald. I have been meaning to get back to this one.

When I look at this photo I am reminded of the countless times I stood watching sunsets through the wires and over the houses outside the school where I used to work. After a summer storm or after a typhoon there were often the most incredible sunsets. I wished I could take an hour to run off to the river where I could have a clear view of the sky. But always I stood looking out the window or the door and admired the blaze of colours.

When the sky goes through the effort of putting on such a display I think you need to be somewhere wide open to let the full beauty appear before your eyes.

MissMimi.  Sorry Mimi I just saw this now. Thanks for commenting.
Vicalyn.  Hello, I just saw this now. thanks.
Hotaka.  I just saw your comment right now. Thanks. Yes, and we are lucky here because we have the open sky over you in most places. But this one I took sitting in an outdoor restaurant in Arles looking up into the sky.
