Come take a virtual tour of the most haunted of places... a church built of human bones in Kutna Hora (or just for tonight, maybe that should be Kutna Horror) deep in the mysterious Czech Republic.

By the way, I've heard several versions of the history of this place.  One versions says that all the bones are of monks who served in the monastery over a number of centuries, and it was considered an honor to have their bones used in building the church.  The other version holds that these are the bones of people who died of the plague.  There wasn't enough room in the cemetery.  The grounds around the church are home to over 40,000 skeletons.

tizzy:  Hope it didn't scare you too much!

e_t:  Wouldn't it just?  I wonder if you could rent it out for a party?  Nah, I think next year at this time, I'll head out to Transylvania... now that would be a hoot!

kruu- This is almost beyond belief. I would like to see it, but still wouldn't hardly be able to believe my own eyes.

A church of human bones- I need to think about this.

beyond:  I guess it's as good a use as any for a bunch of old bones.  :)

pickers:  And to think, Halloween probably wasn't even invented when they did it... they really still don't even celebrate it here.

skald:  I am looking forward to seeing that blog.

MM&I:  Haha...well, I was there in broad daylight... it wasn't so creepy then.  I could definitely see it as the movie set for a horror flick, though, couldn't you?

ginger:  Why don't we plan a gigantic soulcast Halloween party next year in Transylvania?  :)

ed:  It's the Kostnice Ossuary in Sedlec which is actually just outside the lovely town of Kutna Hora in the Czech Republic.

wombat:  I know, the chandelier is my favorite, too.  Did you notice that the base of the candle holders are made out of pelvic bones, fanned out to look like flower petals?  Oh, the wonders of the human body.

vacant:  Glad you liked them.  :)

  • wombat said on Nov 01, 2007....
No, but I did notice the "dagger shadows" and the little people all around...
  • kruuyai said on Nov 01, 2007....
wombat:  Dagger shadows? Little people?  I'll have to look at these pics more closely!
  • rmuxagirl said on Nov 01, 2007....

  • crybabylu said on Nov 03, 2007....

Hey everyone... sorry for my long absence.  So far, at my new place, I have to hold my laptop out the window to get an internet connection!

rmuxagirl:  You really should come see it!

quiet:  Aw, come on... don't be such a scaredy cat.

Twyla:  Hmmm, don't know what's wrong...maybe you can try again later, or click on one of the pics, and it might take you to my flickr page?

Batty:  The church is near Kutna Hora in the Czech Republic

crybabylu:  I see moonriver got here ahead of time and put in a link on posting pics.  It's easy!

muun:  Yep, I've got a big, black umbrella just for the occasion!

Where are gone those cute, funny, simple costumes of some time ago?

All gone....
Halloween is a scary time of year...ghosts, goblins and decisions.
I NEVER know what to dress as!!!
This year that was the easiest decision I had to make......
