Hermans Hermits music gives me goosebumps. (in a good way)

i like Elvis's movies.

i like rogers and hammerstein musicals.

i also like edgar allan poe, andy warhol,  but those are more....."normal odd"
i mean......but.....hermans hermits? and ELVIS? i wonder if there is really something wrong with my perception of "good stuff"

what else do i like that really isn't technically aesthetically  tasteful.

i mean.... grr. what do i mean.

like...some stuff is high brow and cool.
and some stuff is decidedly low brow.

not necessarily not cool.
but elvis movies are definitely not "cool" in any sense of the word..and for some reason i love them.

and weird is subjective........but....some things are "weirder" than others.

like necrophilia......which i do not have. ...but i'm making a point.

that's definitely in the realm of "NOT NORMAL"

but how not normal is it to love graveyards?

is there a scale?

and if necrophilia is on the far end of the scale......is there "weirder" on that scale?

and what would fall on the "normal" end?

ice cream?

where on the scale would NOT liking ice cream fall?

maybe i just think too much.

or not enough.......or about the wrong things.

fallyn, your post is giving me a monumental headache...lol.

but you do have valid questions. think of the complex terrain of human behavior as something like a wide and shallow basin (type of landform) with an unusual shape. most people are within the basin, enjoying its flat and predictable terrain.

at one end of the basin are steep slopes that lead to a barely-known plateau with unknown dangers but rich wildlife. people often explore its fringes, but only a few decide to climb all the way to the plateau and live there. maybe you and i belong to these type of adventurous people... :-) you like hermans hermits, i like tiny tim with his outrageously small ukulele... ya know, "tiptoe... thru the tulips..."

at the other end of the basin is a deep gorge that leads to rapids and a cataract that ends in a flat barren desert.  people also explore the fringes, but those who dare swim in the dangerous waters are soon carried away, never to return. hard drugs, necrophilia and serial murder are at the very edge of the cataract. i'll never go there, and you shouldn't too... :-)

ice cream is right smack in the middle of the basin. sometimes i go there to eat ice cream, but more often i stay in the peripheries and try recipes for, say, fruit bat stew.

rodgers and hammerstein musicals are right smack in the middle too, if you ask me. ya know, king and i, sound of music...

your post gave me a headache, but it's great, actually. after thinking about it and writing this comment, i think the headache is gone now...lol.

  • Fallyn said on Oct 28, 2007....
*laughing*....i think the fact that i HAD a headache inspired me to write it.

i am on a site......and it matches you with people who have similar personalities to your own.

well, nearly EVERY person i'm matched with at more than 75 percent describes themselves with the words, odd, weird, quirky, eccentric.....or some other word like this

so....if THAT many people are describing themselves as such.......it makes me feel less unique.....but the truth is....this is a small percentage of people and like me they feel quite odd compared to the "normal" people around them.....and probably....like me.....grew up with the constant "you are SO strange" ringing in their ears.

    so...anyway....my goodness.  :p

fallyn, if you're late 50's or older, elvis movies are de-rigeur. if you're 30-ish or younger, like destiny, then elvis movies are super-cool. if you're in your 40's and early 50's (like me), and you're crazy about elvis movies, then you *are* indeed crazy...lol.

destiny, i think all brits of all ages are fond of hermans hermits...lol.

  • Fallyn said on Oct 28, 2007....
i'm 31. and no one my age that "I" know thinks they are cool.

there are some of the hermans hermits songs that LITERALLY will send a shiver through me...and i will get goosebumps on my arms.

we're all 'strange' in our uniquely wonderful ways.

this is what makes life fun.
    embrace it.
  • Mr_Box said on Oct 28, 2007....
I have no idea who Hermans Hermits are.

But that doesn't make you odd. Maybe it makes me odd?

I think everyone has at least one thing that they like or don't like that no one else understands. But that's a good thing. It makes you unique. Like a snowflake.

If everyone liked the same stuff it would be pretty boring don't you think?

I personally like meeting people who are into different stuff. They introduce the stuff to me, and occasionally I find something new that I like that I might never have thought about.

    That's the beauty of it.
  • gingersoul said on Oct 28, 2007....

Fallyn......I don't see why you are odd....and i dont see why you should ask yourself this question...be yourself.....:-)

I, for example, had to read the lyric of the song that Queen typed to understand who this Hermit was...i had no idea.... I do know and like the song though...does this make me odd?

I think sometimes we like to think to be special.....different....unique....

Everybody has some oddity that nakes them different....sometimes there are people absolutely "normal".......those are the scariest one....

Plus, as Boxy said, if we were all sane or all insane imagine the bore....

  • Fallyn said on Oct 28, 2007....
rupert. my sis is married to a kiwi. he has a death wish or something....and i've noticed a lot of people from NZ or Australia are either really brave or really stupid. or some kind of combination of the two.

    mr box....it is totally beautiful!

my point just was....that odd is subjective ....as are so many other things......i enjoy my uniqueness......i don't think i'm more unique than everyone else.....i just know i'm more unique than most of the people i'm around every day....otherwise they wouldn't all be telling me how strange i am.

bah, normal is just a setting on the washing machine, fallyn. :>

i like mrs brown you've got a lovely daughter, i'm into something good, no milk today, listen people, just the first few that come to mind.  they were a good band.  in new york city, mrs. brown was number one for over a month.

Well, I will watch Elvis movies with you!  My former neighbor loooooves Elvis.  She and I had a very serious discussion one evening on her front porch about Elvis still being alive.  She seems to believe that it's possible.

And of the British groups from the sixties.  But you gotta know, I love my Beatles.  I saw a concert with Herman's Hermits, the Dave Clark Five, the Searchers, and Gerry and the Pacemakers back in the seventies.  Yes... Probably before you were born...  I am so freaking old.

This is my favorite Herman song:

Embrace your quirkiness.  Wear it with pride!  Put on your tin foil hat and play your kazoo!
