I was just looking at the Yahoo! home page, and one of the news titles was, "California fires leave behind widespread devastation."

The little video link next to it read, "NASA helps."

Ok, I know what they meant, but good gosh that's funny to read. :-D (Not that the fires are anything to be taken lightly, of course - that wording just cracked me up.)

OK, you'd think people would check the layout of these things before running 'em, wouldn't ya?!

I remember reading on News of the Weird about an article, also on Yahoo news I believe, about a guy getting, as Shepherd put it, "bobbitized" by his girlfriend...and the photo at the top was an add for chef's knives. :D  I was going to link it to you when I saw this post, but it was too long ago and the article has been taken down.

Not that bobbitizing is anything to make light of either...

Oh, and okay, it's not related, but, well, sort of, and just because you made me think of it...here! My personal favorite from Engrish.com *giggle*

This reminded me of a news story I was listening to one night.

The anchor man stated, that a plane had crash landed at such and such airport, and that the survivors were "dazed".

I think that qualifies as the understatement of the year.
    Don't you?

Oh my gosh! Picker, you reminded me!  I totally forgot my absolute best-ever news reporting funny fiasco!  I actually saw this one myself on TV; it was a local news report when I was a kid.  I've never forgotten it.

The anchors were reporting on a building fire in one of the cities in our region.  It had broken out not long before the report, so they were saying that they couldn't say much about the status of the fire, but fire fighters were already on the scene and they would keep us posted as it went on.  Except the guy got his tongue tangled just before he said it, and it came out, "Fire farters are on the scene..."

    :D

I remember my mom and I both laughed until our eyes watered, and in the studio, they had to cut to commercial to give everyone a chance to calm down! (though as I recall there were random giggles all throughout the rest of the broadcast...)

ed: Yahoo! seems to have a knack for a lack of proofreading when it counts the most.

    nyt: [giggles] Those are great!

pickers: Yeahhh...I bet the survivors had stronger words to describe their reactions/condition!
