So I was watching Fox News this morning before I came in to work, and watching the devastation of the fires in California.

It shouldn't have surprised me when I heard them calling the people who had to leave there home "evacuees" yet in Louisiana the people who had to leave there homes were "REFUGEES"!!!

Unbelievable - - tell me - what is the difference between the people that had to leave there homes in Louisiana and California?? Money? Race? Hmmmmm....

It's a little bit like reverse discrimination.

Or is it that when you have to leave your home and you can afford to check into a hotel you loose refugee status?

Not only are they evacuees - - but I noticed how tents, food, diapers, anything that they needed in California was in an abundance!! They even had games, books, etc... for the kids. A clown was hired to entertain and occupy the kids - Are you kidding me??? Just a few of the perks/things that I saw.

Oh - and Louisiana - still in shambles - let's see how quickly California is rebuilt.

I'd wager a higher percentage of those who's home burn have fire insurance to rebuild than did those who's homes flooded have flood insurance.  Money is obviously one of the catalysts to quick recovery.

Unfortunately - that's what it always comes down to - money. What a tragedy on both sides.

Yeah, and  BTW it flooded again in New Orleans about the same time the fires broke out but it was considered "minor news". Hmmm....

Tink11464, I understand your frustrations with hurricane Katrina and the California wildfires, and also with the issues you seen in the media. But do some research and find that facts. When residents of California are told to evacuate, THEY DO IT! When the residents of Louisiana were ordered to evacuate, THEY DIDN'T! There are newscasts just before hurricane Katrina with individuals in the city of New Orleans the focal point. When being interviewed before the hurricane hit, they would tell the reporters to "F@#* OFF" or when asked "What are you still doing here?" one responded "IT'S NONE OF YOUR GOD DAMN BUSINESS." California has measures in place to help in preventing disasters like this, and also in the recovery process, if something were to happen. If the so called "tree huggers" would get out of the way and allow the trimming of forests there wouldn't be these wildfires that destroy hundreds or millions of dollars worth of property. You cannot blame the state of California for having aid ready for the needy in the state of California. YES, money plays a factor in this. If the state of Louisiana paid less in welfare and put more money towards relief efforts, then it too would have food and water for the displaced. Stop being democrats! Stop crying for the government to take care of you and force everyone to be treated equally.

I'm not blaming the government entirely!  (except when Bush visited there, he
gave promises and made assurances)  I blame the city government                  The reports that are coming out of
New Orleans is that the storm isn't  what really did them in.

Any large flooding would've brought the same results.  The levees had been inspected and they knew they wouldn't hold even in real flooding conditions.
Someone really needs to do an investigation into the city, like big time!

sooooo many people in new orleans had NO WHERE TO GO.
  • Tink11464 said on Nov 02, 2007....
Conecommander - it's not about finger pointing as much as it is just plain helping. Like Fallyn mentions - so many of these people had nowhere to go - no money to go anywhere. If you only have that home, those few belongings - I can see how they are afraid to leave what little they had.

Even those who left and went to the stadium - - look what happened there - - they certainly did not have the same treatment that the "evacuees" in California had at their stadium. There were no pampers, food and drink in abundance, no safety, etc...

Not crying anything here - but unjust treatment to those who are less fortunate to begin with!!

wow you guys that talk trash about how California can rebuild so fast when Louisiana is still a mess make me sick!!! I have lived in San Diego all my life and let me tell you there is a big difference in the damage done by a HURACANE then wildfires. The Biggest difference is that California, specifically San Diego has been through this before, 4 years ago to the date we had horrible wildfires tear all through San Diego and let me tell you it was nowhere near as organized as it was this time. Four years ago we as a town were lost and scared. We learned from our mistakes and came together as a community this time, I would think you all would be commending us on our sense of brotherly love not trying to tear us down by saying this only happened to "white people" because that frankly isn't the case. I am not saying anything bad about the people in Louisiana, I am simply saying you can not compare apples to oranges. Come on people lets just get over it and respect the people that died in both of these horrible tragedies.
