A trait is a rather ambiguous word since it simply means a characteristic.

It can mean so many things in human behavior. But that's ok, it gives us a lot to play with.

I have three questions.

What trait would you most like to gain that you do not have?

What trait would you most like to lose or lessen effect of?

What trait do you value most in yourself?

Mine are as follows:

Trait I would like to gain- To be able to open myself up more to ones I care for. I'm like that
guy you've heard of who cares deeply for family and friends but has trouble showing it.

Trait I would like to lose- I'm rarely completely satisfied with so many things. I'll buy
something I've wanted and it might end up in the closet, or maybe one's not enough and I'll
want two or three. Too many things after the fact are left wanting. People who are easily
satisfied seem to be happier. To a large extent, I think satisfaction in life equals
     happiness.

Trait I value most in myself- I have scruples. I don't cheat or lie (sometimes a white lie to
avoid hurt feelings). Scrupled people are trusted and never betray with word or deed.

Traits are so numerous, this may be a difficult choice, but the ones you choose will tell us something about you.

What trait would you most like to gain that you do not have?
The ability to finish things more often.

What trait would you most like to lose or lessen effect of?
Compulsive shopping, though it is cheaper than therapy.

What trait do you value most in yourself?
The ability to find good in others.

Ed- I was expecting honesty in place of integrity, but I believe they are the same thing. I procrastinate the devil out of certain things. My wife puts off going to the doctor. Its a battle sometimes to get her there.

unique- I have a problem finishing little jobs, not big ones, just little ones. Drives my wife crazy. I liked the shopping and therapy. One of the things I like best in you is how much your humor comes through.

    Valued

    Humility, definitely my strongest suit.

    Hi Beyond, nice post!

What trait would you most like to gain that you do not have?
Currently, I would have  to say FAITH. . .I feel my faith is sorely lacking and out of everything that I wish I had more of it would be Faith.  I use to have a whole lot of Faith, but at present I'm an almost dry well.

What trait would you most like to lose or lessen effect of?
Fear of failure, would have to be it.  I am so afraid that I am going to mess up that I think it really affects my confidence.  A recent mistake has made me feel all jittery and I wonder if I'm actually capable of doing things right at all!

What trait do you value most in yourself?
To say this, actually seems like a contradiction in terms, but perhaps "humility".  I am very quick to admit when I am wrong and will go to great lengths to make amends.

Gain -   Diplomacy.....can't quite master the art
Lose -   Candor.....no censor switch in my brain
Value -  Integrity.....I value my values

I'd like to gain the art of handling situations.  I guess what I mean by that is I'd like to be able to say funny or witty things and have it come naturally and also know when to be serious and inspire with words, maybe I mean be a leader of some sort.  What I'd like to lose is being so flaky or maybe thats just not having enough common sense sometimes.  What I like best about myself is that I don't give up easily.

Trait I'd like to gain: candor and self assurance. I would like to be able to talk about anything with anybody without being very shy.

Trait I would like to lose: shyness and mediocrity.

Trait I value most: patience and empathy.

    Cooool post!

mobil- From reading you for months, I wouldn't have thought you were too serious and needed to gain lightheartedness. The second has me worried. Now I think both arms may be out of socket from patting that back of yours.

infernal- Strange, but confidence is something I've had on and off throughout life. Your compassion is a sure winner.

Ed- I don't know if it affects others this way, but I look on integrity as a trait someone has or possesses and honesty as a trait someone is in their being. Does that make sense? Its the feeling of the words for me.  I wouldn't be reluctant to claim honesty in your case.

polar- I'm somewhat surprised you feel faith has become a dry well. From reading your posts, I thought your faith was doing fine. Did I miss one? Humility is another sure winner.

twilarants- It looks like your gain and lose are at odds with each other. I found that with age my diplomacy has risen, but so has candor. I still have a battle with that one, but diplomacy is winning.

ninja- I'm happy to hear what you like best about yourself. After reading your post 'I think I'm done', this pleases me. Hope you have another travel post soon.
  • beyondtheveil said on Oct 24, 2007....
lioness- You are such a neat girl from all I've read in your posts. I would never consider you mediocre. I truly admire patience and empathy. I've had a shyness also in many situations.

    hmmmmmmmmmmmm

    I'm not sure!

I like that I am open minded does that count? thats what I value most about me... I believe anything is possible, which I guess makes me quite deep, which is good for understanding or accepting ? other people, I take everyone for who they are, I dont judge people, yeah I like that most :-)

I guess I would change being too sensitive?

And I would like to have more self confidence.

my answers all in a pickle isnt it :-) sorry xx

  • beyondtheveil said on Oct 25, 2007....
des- Being open minded is an attribute I wish was highly contagious. There are a rash of people on this planet causing trouble who need a big dose of it. Your answers are a pickle? I like pickles.

x0- You want a big butt? hmmm, is that because you don't have one? I used to not have one and have a larger butt now. I think I liked it better without one. A big eyed Asian is cool.

Traits i would like to gain: the ability to make plans for the  future and follow them thru

  • beyondtheveil said on Oct 25, 2007....
ginsoul- Your first one hit home with me. I have enough trouble making plans for the weekend and carrying them through.

And wait a minute- laziness? How is it I would never have associated you with laziness? Your personality and posts just don't fit with it. Are you a couch potato?
  • gingersoul said on Oct 25, 2007....
Bey......lol.......no, my laziness comes from a state of mind more than from a physical situation......lets say that procrastination leads to laziness or it might be that laziness lead to procrastination....uhmmm.....
