When I was a 4th Grade nerd, I used to be curious about the Khi Rho sign that some of the girls in class always wrote on top of the test papers, quizzes, and theme papers that they passed.
I had a crush on one of them, a sweet girl named Rosemary Zimmerman. She wore her hair in braids and spoke with a lisp. I always called her Rothie.
Tho I athked Rothie, "Hey Rothie, what'th that thign you alwayth put on top of your paperth?"
And sweet Rothie explained that it was Khi Rho, the two Greek symbols that stood for Christ the Savior. She told me that it was a habit among Catholic-school girls, and she came from one such school.
I did note that the all Khi Rho girls in my class were rich girls. Maybe they all came from Catholic schools. But we were attending a public school, so putting the sign on schoolwork barely made sense to me. On one hand, it didn't make sense at all. On the other hand, it looked cool. And I wanted to be cool.
So I thought of inventing my own motto, which I began to write at the center-top of all my schoolwork -- test papers, quizzes, theme papers, homework submissions.
My motto was: "It doesn't make sense."
My teachers started asking me what that motto was supposed to mean. And I gave them my standard answer, "I don't know. It doesn't make sense to me either."
Soon, some of my classmates started imitating me -- perhaps to make fun of the Khi Rho girls -- by writing the I-D-M-S motto on their own papers. We formed an informal club that met every Wednesday afternoon in a nearby park.
I don't recall the name or the purpose of that club. But looking back at what we did in that park -- which was simply to lie down on the grass and talk about all sort of stuff -- I now realize that we didn't make any sense at all.
And so, as I try to rearrange some portions of my daily routine, and rearrange some of the draft and unfinished paperwork I see on my desk, this motto returns into my conscious mind. I look at this very blog, and browse at a few other blogs I keep in draft mode, and nod. They don't make sense either.
I think some of you too would like to put the same mark on some things you did in the past, some pieces you wrote but never got the nerve to publish. Wouldn't you like to write across them, in big red marking-pen letters, the acronym IDMS?
Don't ask me. I can't sleep, but I'm going to bed anyway. This day didn't make any sense.

Moon, I know that ideas come to me sometimes to blog that make sense to me at the time I write them and when I read it to myself before blogging, I think, what the hell did I just write? It's something only I can understand. Only I know where my head was. No one else will know what I meant, and I delete. I think we all brain fart (pardon me) at some point or another. all right, everyone. i'm back online after a really crappy week. and i see you've all taken to the IDMS idea like duck takes to water. so i've decided to rig up a simple stamp-pad logo that you could all use when you see something that DOESNT MAKE SENSE. instead of thinking up so many courteous words, simply invoke this three-letter word -- i don't like four-letter words...lol -- and be cooler than ice... *wink*
meanwhile, let me catch some much-needed sleep, and tomorrow i'll stamp more nasty DMS replies to your nice comments.
