  Purple rain is the metaphor of any perfect place you want to be when your life is just shit...

  For Prince at the time he wrote that great album PR was love and music...now probably he would add God to the list.

  I went to two of his concerts.......he is really something...lol...

  In Purple Rain Prince is playing tricks with the words. Purple has traditionally been the color of royalty. Thus, he is refering to himself when he speaks of "purple". Rain is a pun. He really means "reign". Thus he is expressing his desire to have dominion over the woman in the song.   The song Purple Rain was wrote for a scene in the movie that got cut. Prince and Appollonia make love and spend the night in a barn, she gets up before prince to look out on early morning rain, Prince wakes up, looks at Appollonia with the dawn light in the background giving the effect of the rain appearing purple. There is a small clip that got kept from the scene - it gets shown during the montage scene of When Doves Cry “I Only Want 2 See U In The Purple Rain”
