I went to two hypnotists for past life regressions. I found it impossible to do the visual imagery they asked of me. For example, they would ask me to see myself walking down a flight of steps, and I didn't see myself walking down steps. I'm terrible at visual imagery. I also bought a tape to listen to, but all it did was put me to sleep.

During one of the hypnotic sessions, I saw myself as an American Indian male walking through a forest. I was asked who I saw around me. I was asked what was on my feet. I was asked for any details at all. I only saw myself as an American Indian male walking through a forest, and I had the feeling I was lucky to get that much.

In my other hypnotic session I came up with nothing at all. But after that one I had a vision of myself as a woman, a member of a royal family, though I couldn't tell if it was just a local sort of royalty, of a province, or of an entire nation. I thought I may have been a Roman. If not the daughter of a Roman emperor, maybe the daughter of the man who ran a particular province in the empire. There was trouble in the palace. My family and I were in danger. There was a male guard with me to protect me. That guard was my current wife.

I can easily believe she was a male in a past life. She's such a slob. Leaves stuff all over the house, all over her car. And yet she screamed yesterday when she saw a spider in the car. I was thinking for God's sake if it bothers you just step on it, and all she could do was scream. EEEEK a spider! Some guard she turned out to be.

That sounds romantic that you think you and your wife crossed paths in a past life.  A friend I used to have suggested that perhaps he and I had been drawn to one another like that.  It was a romantic thought at the time.

So, are you a believer in reincarnation then?

Definitely a believer in reincarnation, and also a believer in a very real heaven, our only true home, a place where you and I will meet someday and smile to each other and maybe be friends.

    lfb,
I believe that heaven is a very real place too.  I'm sure we will be friends when we both reach that other side.  :-)  I can't wait for the joy there.

    LF........very interesting....

I do believe we hold in our subconscious myriads of information that we can't possibly keep track of during our normal day and in our dreams as well.

I have had in the past the curiosity to be hypnotized but i have read that people who have control issues (like i have) tend to be very bad cases because they fight harder than others to let go their conscious stream..

Have you been easy to hypnotize?

I know i have a strong attraction to cloisters.....Provence....Middle Age....desert......water ......who knows....it would be interesting to explore this tool as an option to widen up my horizons....

Were you scared before being hypnotized?

The daughter of a Roman Emperor? Now that would be something......maybe you were my progenitor?....lol...

Interesting read. My wife and I tried this before. We bought a tape and tried it out a few times.

I fell asleep the first time and I dreamt about eating cookies in a basement. I don't think it was a past life though. I think I just wanted cookies.

My wife said it worked for her though. She was some sort of peasant girl who was in love with the guy she was serving. I got no idea if that guy was me or not.

The next time we did it, I think it worked. I saw myself as a little boy buying candy in a hardware store with my mom. Only it wasn't really me and my mom. We were Amish.

Who knows? Maybe it was a past life, or maybe it was just a dream? I never could tell.

Hi, My husband and I have lots of memories of when we were together in several past lives. They sort of came as a gestalt/ or subconsious download from somewhere ---and then the info is available consciously.... There is a book that I recommended already to Skald about past life therapy that gives exercises how to regress yourself.( I've never done it-- for I'm a coward-- and I have enough off the wall experiences without asking for them!)..The name of the Book : Though Time into Healing--by Brian L. Weiss, M.D. Simon and Schuster, 1992.................One of our more clear incarnational memories wasof the incarnation in the city of Tzfat in the 1500's....................... This is the time that the great Kabbalists dominated the city, but we were just very ordinary working people.... A few people from that time period are back in this time frame, some nice, some real rotten sons of bitches...Anyway the first person from this incarnation, besides my husband, that I met was a soldier who was doing his alternate service on our kibbutz in the 1970's. He once asked me to meet him secretly in a bombshelter, and handed me a book on reincarnation, I think it was "Seth" and he made me swear that I would never tell anyone about the fact that he was reading this stuff (you could get ' ribbed to death' on kibbutz in those days if you were vulnerable)...... Anyway, in that incarnation he had been the son of my husband's boss in the Tzfat of 500 years ago. My husband had worked as the technician for the water mills owned by that family, and I had been their cook...Nine years ago my husband got what was supposed to be a big electrical job on the Moshav of this guy who had been his boss 500 years before; what was this guy's hobbie?-- Reconstructing a water mill.... My husband always had an uncanny fondness for watermills,--when we were in the States there was a reconstructed mill we'd visit when we felt depressed, just seeing it would pull us out of depression... The soldier who had given me 'Seth' turned out to have spent his high school years back living with his previous incarnational family-- on the moshav!! since he did not get along with the 'birth family'!. Oh and this soldier, who was a vegetarian always brought me the meals that he cooked himself -mostly seaweed concoctions. He associated me with food and with confidences, since as his mother's cook I was also his baby sitter. It took us 30 years to get all the pieces to this puzzle, and we also met some others from that time period that were just as rotten today as they were then, and had managed to stay unchanged in their stupidity for 500 years and who knows how many lifetimes... As for the moshav family: I felt very much 'at home' in their present kitchen, where I showed the wife, my previous 'mistress', how to make glutten 'meat' and I brought her dessert cards since she presently runs a natural food inn on the grounds of their home and has many guests to cook for...... Once we had most of the pieces of the puzzle we didn't see that family anymore, even though we have another friend on that same moshav and have been there many times.

CW, it sounds morbid when I tell someone that I really wish I was dead right now, but I do, not because life is bad, it isn't, but because I am more than just convinced that heaven is wonderful.  I'm assuming that I agreed to come here, that I wanted to come here, and I suspect it was similar to registering for a course in school that will qualify me to do what I want to do back home.  So like a sentry at my post, I must stay here until called back home.

Ginger, I've been nearly impossible to hypnotize.  Someone at work suggested that the reason I don't like to get drunk is because I have control issues, and she was right, because I don't like to give up my control.  She said she was the same.

I was hypnotized a few times though.  Once I took a course in hypnosis and then spoke with a professional hypnotist in my area, and he hypnotized me without my consent, just droning on as I felt my knees get hot and I realized that he had hypnotized me.  I had the feeling he was homosexual and wanted me, but wanted me hypnotized.  I silently pulled myself out of the trance and said something casual to him, which upset him, because he thought he had me.  I never told him that he did have me for a while there.

But no, I wasn't afraid to be hypnotized when I was trying to do past life work.  I was disappointed that I couldn't be.  When the hypnotist told me to get comfortable in my chair, I couldn't even do that.  I felt fidgety and wished I could be hypnotized because I wanted very much to have the experience of a past life regression.  I was not the least bit afraid that the hypnotists in that case would do anything to me.  I knew they wouldn't.

Mr Box, I feel a little funny about the confession I am about to make, but no, that wasn't you with the peasant girl.  That was me.  Sorry.

Trinov, the first book I ever saw on the subject of past lives was Seth Speaks.  It was given to me many years ago by a girl I had a crush on.  I still remember the didactic way Seth spoke, how he took over the body of the author and went on and on in his tutorial way.

I really wonder how you would react to Journey Of Souls by Michael Newton, and its sequel Destiny Of Souls.  Those are my two favorite books on the subject, and I've read over a dozen.  I just wish I knew if they were true, or to what extent they are true.  They hit me even harder than the good Brian Weiss book I read.

Hi, haven't read Michael Newton yet, we don't have Barnes and Nobles here and the old type bookstores are only in the big cities, and we might make the trip once or twice a year. But it will be on my list....From my studies I've learned that there are different soul types from different worlds --who have varying missions, and get varying receptions in Heaven --a soul review or a trial-- depending on who they are and why they came down here....The first question asked at a trial is a variation of : Did you do your job honestly? (as a businessman were you honest, as a teacher did you do your best to teach you subject as well as you could etc. ) They are not impressed with bullshit. I read an article about someone--a counselor in a religious high school ---who as clinically dead for 17 minutes and came back after a trial. His whole family on the otherside were there, except for two grandfathers who were up further in Heaven petitioning for him to be sent back alive. His old aunt was there also, and he was told that they were both the responsible general souls in the family and one of them would stay there( he found out that his aunt died while he was out cold clinically dead). He was berated for not taking his job seriously, and when he recovered had his wife take all the plagues off the walls, for charity to be credited to you up there, you can't get any benefit for it here...Actions count up there, not whom you know, your bank account etc .

There are different soul types from different worlds.

Newton also says that there are different worlds.  He doesn't mention different soul types, and I wish he did.  But Rosemary Altea has a very interesting book about the different soul types.  She mentions 13 different soul types.  However, she is only referring to those who come to this one world of ours.  There are far more than just 13 soul types if you include those that go to different worlds.

The soul review or trial is a highlight of Newton's work.  He writes that we are reviewed by what he calls a council of elders, though he says there are many different titles you can choose to give to that group.  According to him, this council has been with us, with an occasional addition or subtraction of an elder, throughout all of our incarnations.  He describes them as seeing right through us, and as being very wise and understanding, making it clear what our shortcomings were, but not to the point of discouraging us from ever trying again, and in fact being kindly supporters of our efforts.  My guess is that if they do have something to be angry about, they'll let you know it.  It is described as being sent to the principal's office.

The concept of responsible souls in the family, higher-ups in the family, isn't related in that exact way by Newton.  Instead he says that we have guides and we also have what you might term "higher-up guides".  The only difference between your description and his is that Newton's guides are not necessarily ever going to incarnate into your family.  They will only do that if they choose to.

I find all of this fascinating, but not as wish fulfillment.  I am only interested in learning the truth, and I have no need or desire for "comfort food for the soul".  If we are just obliterated at death, I want to know that and I wouldn't shrink from it. If there is a hell awaiting us, I'd like to know that too.  I just want the facts.

Hi, there is a hell, but it is a temporary cleansing--not the eternal hell created by the early Christian church -(they knew about re-incarnation but didn't want the public to know--all this info is still available from old records that any medieval history freak could access--I did when I was in college and was a medieval history major)......... Anyway, the Creator is not unfair and gets no charge out of torturing people,--- but you might like to get a hold of some of Rabbi Mannis Freedman's tapes--he is Chabad and you should be able to find him through their websites....... He was the 'hippie Rabbi' who always showed up in a leather jacket, no tie etc. He started out in Berkely.... Anyway he would put things in perspective, even very Kabbalistic things.. He used an analogy for hell / purgatory: that if you had a very beautiful expensive coat in great condition that had a few spots on it you would make a good job of sending it to the most thorough cleaners--to get out every spot. But if you have an old inexpensive worn jacket, you won't do much except go through the motions of rubbing the spots. ...The more someone knows and understands, and still screws up, the more he will be punished or "sent to the cleaners". The less someone knows, the less he can be held responsible for--the Heavenly Court is not stupid...everything is weighed. And everything is weighted: for the average guy who lives an average life, supports his family, helps his neighbor out when guy's battery goes dead etc, is judged on his level and his life; the brilliant king who was tutored in all the philosophies and theories and then goes and ignores his duties to his people and spends his life in idle luxory, well he was a more responsible soul and should have known better and he will not be let off so easily. .. there is also something you should know, that a Jew is considered as a "soldier" and not a civilian, so a Jew will have a trial or 'courtmartial' while most of the rest of the souls would usually have a soul review..... But if you were not taught as a child about the special requirements of the Jewish role here, you are not, and cannot be held responsible. And most Jews today are considered as not having been taught--for the Hebrew school education is the worst Jewish joke ever told, --and so people are not responsible for what they don't understand or maybe never heard about--ignorance of the law, in the Heavenly Court, is a good excuse. And on the other hand, whatever you manage to learn as an adult goes to your credit.....there are special souls, both Jews and Gentiles called Tzadikim, The Righteous, that are planted in different population groups all over the world to keep the world going.... They don't care for the pleasures of this world, and they are hidden from our eyes, the stories show that most people would not notice them or even think them crass and ugly-- unless they had the merit to see them as they truly are...They come from the world of Atzilut...There are four major created worlds: the world of Asiyah or Doing, the world of Yitzirah or Creating --which is the world of music and art etc, the world of Briah, which is the world of intellect, and the world of Atzilut, the highest created world which is mostly Godliness and the souls from there are only here to help us. The rest of us may be here to learn, to do, to fix things, to be creative in the arts, etc etc. And each of these worlds is divided into ten levels that might be equivalent to your 10 level theory of personalities. Gary Null had seven levels For he put all three creative levels into one box and didn't understant the level of Malcut or kingship--the executor level ....
