As we were getting ready for bedtime (hers), little one dropped her lovey. I had her in my lap in the rocking chair, so I just let her lean over as I held her, so she could swipe the bunny off the floor.

Well, that was a fun game. She proceeded to drop the thing a half-dozen more times, and when it got old for me, I held it with her and told her that the lovey was sleepy and wanted to go night-night now. She yelled - and I was just bragging about her manners elsewhere, whoops - "No, Mama!" and ripped the lovey from my hand, flinging it across the room.

I was already irritated enough to be putting her down a half hour early (you know things were pretty bad, as that guarantees an even earlier morning for me tomorrow). I turned her to face me, put on my best stern/mean mommy face, and half-said, half-growled "NO" at her.

She burst into a fit of giggles a split second before I did.

Yeah, I'm a real hard-nose, can't you tell? :-D

You gotta work on that poker face!  Yes, they still get the message, but obviously feel secure enough to giggle about it.

lol!  I can see you *trying* to look mean...but I think you're just too bright and shining of a person to pull it off.  Especially with a bright and shining little girl staring back at you...I would have a tough time, too!

On the bright side, the times that she does listen to you, you'll know it's because she loves you and not because she's afraid of you ;)

I know how you feel... I'm 17 and I've been working at a daycare for about 2 years now(this is the 2nd) and they really don't take me that seriously.  They don't listen to me near as well as they listen to my boss, Chris, and when she's there she usually gets on to them for it.  But then I'm faced with the fact that they now think that when she's not there, they don't have to listen to me... it drives me insane, and i'm trying to fix it, but this is all still kinda new to me.  But I really do love each and every one of those kids like they were mine, and would die for them.  so don't feel bad! :P
