I get disturbed reading the news ... there are so many bad stories, so many crazy people. I gave up reading the local news for the most part because it's just depressing. But I never imagined that I'd one day know the people being written about. Please say a prayer for Abelina and her three children.
After my divorce, we sold the house and not wanting to move into an apartment with my daughter, I opted to rent a house. This nice couple was in the process of upgrading - purchasing a million dollar home with more bedrooms so their children would no longer have to share a room. The woman was a local realtor, the husband a local landscaper. I lived there for just over a year - I was their first renter, and they took care of me. My second child was born while I lived in that house. Abelina brought over a gift as soon as she heard I was home.
I remember how friendly Abelina always was. She knew I was a single mom and seemed to reach out to me even more, offering her help and that of her husband if there was anything I needed. He was always very friendly, professional, and polite. He sent his crew weekly to do the gardening. And, he never came over to work or allowed his crew to work without calling me or ringing the doorbell first to make sure I knew they were coming and approved. Anyway, I thought they were wonderful people and I have always been thankful for how they helped me that year.
Well, Friday night there was a horrible crime ... the police are still investigating so I can't comment ... not sure what to comment anyway as I just can't believe it. I'm sad; I'm worried; I'm shocked. The papers are saying it appears have been an attempted murder/suicide. Abelina was shot twice in the head at her home before her husband apparently shot and killed himself. Two of their three kids were home and ran to a neighbor's house for help. Their youngest son is in my daughter's class ... he is one of the two kids that was home apparently.
Anyway, last I heard Abelina is still in ICU in critical condition. Please say a prayer for her and for her children.
