I have always considered myself to be kind of a tomboy.......I love girly things though. I love makeup and shoes and purses and dolls (obviously! LOL) But I don't really like wearing dresses and things like that. And I've always liked having my hair shorter rather than longer. Not boy short, but not long and flowing like lots of other girls.

And I will leave the house w/out makeup. I try to always have lip gloss though, but I don't always bother to do eye makeup. Especially if I'm at work. And if I had to pick shoes to wear I'd always pick boots or tennis shoes over fancy heels. In fact I hate regular high heels! They kill my feet......LOL I love sandals with a big wedge heel and was really excited a few years ago when platform shoes were back in style. Then I get to be taller w/out hurting my feet!

But my basic outfits are almost always jeans and a t-shirt. I am not fancy girly girl. Sometimes I wish I was though. I love looking at dresses and think they're so pretty. But I hate wearing them! I think this is why I'm having such an issue picking a wedding dress........

I keep seeing ones I love but when I put it on, I hate the way it feels. Some of those dresses are so heavy I don't think I could walk! LOL And then others are so tight I'd feel like I was being strangled. And I KNOW I will probably trip on the hem and rip the dress or kill myself when I fall down!

I am torn b/c I LOVE the fancy princess dresses, but only to look at. I am thinking of doing something much more casual and me like, despite what I think I should be wearing.

I mentioned to a friend that I saw a little girl wearing the cutest fairy princess costume and I wanted her dress! LOL It was calf length and had layers of tattered fabric flowing down. And it was an empire waist with spaghetti straps.......it was perfect!! It was so ME. But it's a little childs Halloween costume! LOL Am I crazy???

I thought about having something like it made special. I don't want to wear a costume and it's not as if I'd put wings on my back and pretend to be a fairy. But the dress design was PERFECT. It was simple and different and exactly what I was looking for. Although I'd like it to be made with good fabrics like silk and lace and not polyester or whatever they make costumes out of.

Is this is a strange idea? Is it weird that I would get inspiration for a wedding dress from a childs costume?? But that's me. I tend to do things that are a little unconvential sometimes. I don't like to be like everyone else. My mom always gave me a hard time about that. She wanted me to be more like her. She wanted me to be girlier and a carbon copy of every other woman around town.......like my sister is.

Anyways........this post was supposed to be about whether or not other women out there were tomboyish like me, but my mind ran away to other ideas........LOL

But just so this isn't a totally pointless mess of jumbled thoughts about my life I will leave you w/ a few questions to answer.

If you are a woman, how girly are you? Do you love dresses and heels and never leave home w/out  full face of makeup?? Or do you like jeans and comfy shoes?

And if you are a man, what type of woman are you most attracted to? Do you like the ultimate girly girl, or do you like someone more relaxed about her appearance?

And anyone, am I out of my mind to want a fairy costume as a wedding dress? LOL

First off, I think you should wear whatever dress you want. And if it's a fairy costume, who cares? Though I do think it's smart not to wear the wings :-P But you already know my thoughts about this. I'm not a fancy guy either. And the more casual and unique the wedding is, I'm cool with it! I'm the one who wanted an action figure cake after all.

As for what type of girl I'm attracted to the most? You, obviously :-) But I can honestly say I've never been much for the girls who take five hours to get ready for a date. Or the ones who refuse to be seen without makeup. I like casual and down to earth. Sure, it's awesome to see you get dressed up because you look so pretty. But I also think you look pretty in your pajamas too! You know the ones with the skulls on them? I love those!

To me, your perfect. And you should just be you and not ever worry about what anyone else thinks. I love you :-)

Nats, I have ALWAYS been a tomboy.  I am 100% woman and I like beautiful things, but I'm not hung up on them.  I dont go for fake tans, manicures etc. . .its just never been me.  I dont have anything against it, but its just not important to me.  I go to the hairdresser when its necessary and colour my own hair at home.  I buy clothes that are practical and can be worn with many other things.  I do what I need to in order to look nice and, now going to work, I usually wear make-up, but sometimes I dont.  I dont have issues going out of the house with not make-up as long as my teeth are clean and my hair is neat.  So, I think you and I are very similar in that regard!
  • Battycat said on Oct 14, 2007....
Natalie - I'm just the same, I feel much better in jeans, t-shirts and trainers, and my hair is short, I tried it long once, it looked awful :-)
I would like to be more girly as well, but I don't think i'll change now.
On my wedding day though I wore a very girly dress, and it felt right, and I felt comfortable, weird but true.
If you want to wear a fairy dress, why not, you could have a theme for the day. What does e_t think though?
  • nursecutie said on Oct 14, 2007....
Kyle, I'm so glad you like my fairy dress idea!! I guess that as long as you and I like it, then it doesn't matter right? But no I won't have wings! LOL And I am happy to hear you say that you like casual girls. Part of me knew you must b/c you're with me :) But I think sometimes I always worry that maybe I am not pretty enough? Or that I don't dress up fancy enough like other girls we see when we're out.......it makes me really happy to know that you like the way I am and the way I dress :) I love you too.....

polarheart, yay! Someone else like me! I have never had a fake tan either. I am pale as can be! LOL I like having my toenails painted and have gotten pedicures, but I rarely paint my fingernails. And I usually dye my own hair too! It's cheaper :) To me comfort is the most important thing when choosing clothes. I like to look good, but I'm just not overly girly.

battycat, I had my hair really long before too and I hated it. I didn't think it suited me. And I would always wear it up anyway, so why not just cut it off? LOL (btw, I totally got your doll wrong didn't I?? LOL) As for the fairy dress, Kyle likes the idea! He's so much like me and I love it :)

me personally, i've always felt that a woman's wardrobe and style are a reflection of who she is. so no, i don't think that's weird at all, nat. :>

to answer the question: personally, i generally have a fondness for women who are equally comfortable in jeans or a dress, a woman who's not afraid to go out if her makeup isn't just. in short, i find women attractive who are comfortable in whatever type of environment, b/c i think that kind of flexibility is pretty darned cool.

i forget who (simplyklo?), but the other day, someone asked a similar question, so i'll paraphrase my response there: insofar as i have a "type", it's girl-next-door. i dig on cute.

Nat, i actually love what you described.  You will be beautiful, guaranteed, because you will love the dress, you love the man, and your wedding will be perfect.  Go with what makes you comfortable.

I like girly romantic things, but I really am very unconcerned with make up and 50 different moisturizers and six million pairs of shoes, and the like.  Number on top priority in my clothing must be comfort.  I haven't worn a dress since 1988, at my best friend's wedding.  I was matron of honor, and was corseted, contained and stuffed into a lovely pink gown.  Godalmighty, I hated every minute of it.
  • nursecutie said on Oct 14, 2007....

ed, I'm happy you don't think my idea is weird! And I think that if people would describe me, they'd call me cute before anything else. Kyle told me that he likes cute girls too, so yay me!! LOL

MissMimi, thank you :) I'm glad you like the dress idea I described! I looked all over the internet today for something like it, and I couldn't find it. I even found fairy wedding dresses, but they weren't really what I had in mind. I think I am going to have to draw it and have it made! In light of your horrible bridesmaid dress with the corset I will make sure my bridesmaids are comfortable too! LOL

  • the_infernal_optimist said on Oct 14, 2007....
I don't think that's weird at all - I can totally picture you in the dress you described based on that kiddie costume. It would suit you, I think, and it's bound to be more comfortable than a dress that doesn't feel like "you" when you wear it. :) If you can, go for it! My wedding dress was very simple, because I wouldn't have felt like myself in something more elaborate.

I'll confess something to you here: I'm no girly girl, but on the rare occasion when I have to dress up, I love it. :) It's fun to do the "oh yeah, I am female" princess-for-a-day type thing, and then to go home and put on jeans and a ratty t-shirt and just hang out. :) I've always been a tomboy or closer to that than anything else. I don't have time to do makeup before I go out all the time, and when I do, I don't want it to be "putting my face on" - just a little enhancement of what's already mine. I'd rather not even think about heels (especially since they make me tower over my husband :-D), but I can admire pretty shoes I'd never wear, etc.

infernal, I'm glad you can picture in me in the dress I described! It does seem more my style doesn't it? I like the idea of it being a little whimsical or something......LOL Now I just need to find something like it or draw it and get someone to make it.......

Oh and I know what you mean about loving to dress up, but then go home and get out of the outfit as soon as possible.....LOL That's me! It is fun to dress up once in awhile, but by the end of the night, I'm soooo happy to put my pants back on!

Hi Natalie, even this post is cute, and how can ya not laugh at Mimi in her pink corseted dress, trying to shoot the bride the finger, I bet!
I will say this: I love the girly girl stuff. To me, it is great entertainment! I can spend a whole afternoon looking at ads in the magazines and day dreaming about it all!

I used to wear my hair a certain way for EVER and nails and make up and never would I waver....then I grew up. None of it matters!! Of course, none of it MATTERS, but giggling? Yes, thats it..it makes me laugh. I find it fun!

As far as your wedding goes..I say go with the design that makes you feel the BEST. It's your day and no one gets to impose any traditions etc. on you. Hey, wear a sophistocated pants and jacket if you want! You can still have a train and a veil and a romantic look that would be fab! you can wear any length you want in a dress actually, so what feels good? And some brides have the wedding outfit and the reception outfit.

I went to a spectacular wedding in Phila. where the mother of the bride wore a black sequined straight gown with simple sandals with small heels. She looked amazing and everyone was stunned! Her daughter (my friend) was thrilled! They got a little laugh outta that...have fun with this and enjoy!! M

Nattie......when i was a kid i was the ultimate tomboy .....never played with a doll in my life....my toys were miniature sets of furniture for the pleasure of arranging them and sets of pots to pretend i was a great chef......

my daughter is half tomboy and half girlie...naturally i have alwasy sencouraged her to get messy and dirty as she liked it....

I am comfortable in any kind of outfit: professional suits, jeans and thirt, as well as elegant and sexy dresses....it all depends by the occasion and by the mood....

When i dont work my uniform is a skirt and a nice tshirt......i do love high heels and jeans (you nailed me with my doll....lol...).

I never, ever, ever leave the house without lipstick and eyeliner but I dye my hair at home, i never had a pedicure (professional foot massages... yes) and i probably had  2 manicures in my whole life....i do my nails by myself.... i do like to have body massages (when i can afford them) and i love perfumes...

    I think i am a balanced girlie with a tomboy attitude......LOL...

  • nursecutie said on Oct 14, 2007....

mamie, I knew you were a girly girl! LOL It is fun sometimes. I can't deny that! I love looking at fashion magazines too, but not b/c I want to wear the clothes. I just like looking at them! That's why I love the dolls so much. I LOVE pretty clothes, but they look better on the dolls than me......LOL! And comfort is not an issue either.

And thank you for supporting my wedding dress idea! I don't think I'd want to wear pants to my wedding but I am very excited about this fairy dress idea. And I want it be shorter so i don't trip or get it all dirty on the ground too. I am not one to stick w/traditions at all. I just need to not worry what anyone else will think b/c it's my wedding :) And Kyle likes my idea!

  • nursecutie said on Oct 14, 2007....
gingersoul, I like massages and perfume too! I guess I am girl who just likes to be comfortable and doesn't always wear makeup.......LOL I love lip gloss, but sometimes my eyes bother me and I don't like eye makeup. I think it's good to have a nice balance of being a tomboy and girly girl, depending on your mood :)

Right on!! I've always been the girl who drinks beer and belches too. Honestly I like hanging with the guys more. Tends to be less drama. I like to feel pretty but, I don't spend all of my time in effort to do so. I do like being a Tom boy, I fully support those like myself.
  • Twylarants said on Oct 14, 2007....
I was never "girly" either.  My hair always grew out and frizzy instead of long and straight the way the "girlies' in the 60s looked.
I look silly in jewelry, to me, anyway.  I started wearing make-up in my 40s because my features became paler, I guess it happens when we get older.
Blouses, dresses, or anything frilly make me look as though I'm playing dress-up, so I wear very tailored things, turtlenecks, long pullover sweaters, t-shirts, jeans or long skirts, blazers, sandals or sneakers. My hair is about 2 inches long, I never could stand it in my face, and never had it cut by anyone, I just chop it every 3 or 4 weeks. I love perfume but forget to use it.  I'd rather be building something than decorating something.  I think I was a guy in another life.

I am not by any stretch of the imagination a girly girl.  I have always been the kidn of kid who climbed trees, played rough sports and didn't mind (in fact sometimes enjoyed) getting dirty.  This terrified me when I had my daughter.  I was worried that she would be a girly girl and I wouldn't be able to relate.  I like to dress up on occaision and like girly things as much as the next girl, but it doesn't destroy me if I leave the house in sweats and no makeup.

As for the dress.  It sounds so much nicer than the heavy bulky gowns that you really don't like.  The floaty light design will look lovely on you.  If you for some reason have one made, have you considered a tea length gown?  I have seen a few brides who wore them, and they're always just as beautiful as those who go the full length route.

    Natalie,
I would have loved a Cinderella gown for my wedding.  I think your wedding dress should be whatever you dream it to be.  :-)

I will go without a lot of makeup.  I nearly always wear lipstick...even just around the house.  I always fix my hair.  It's just a blow dry style.  I am not really a tom boy.  I guess I am somewhere in the middle.  I guess I have a simple approach to beauty.  I want to be trendy with minimal effort.  Hope that makes sense.

Natalie, I am exactley like you,  I love jeans and T shirts, with my sneaks.  I have flip flops and well TONS of shoes, but NO high heels,  Platform heels are great.  I never wear dresses.  But I always have my makeup on, and I have long hair, past the middle of my back, but I would consider myself some sort of tom boyish i guess.  Not sure  Is that??  LOL  ugh it's tough being a woman.
  • tizzygirl said on Oct 15, 2007....
I think the fairy this is a spectacular idea!!  You should totally run with it, maybe even get one made exactly how you want it, I mean it'll be the same price to do that as some of the other traditional ones!  Plus then you can do the make up all sparkly and you can wear sandals and not heels you hate so much!
As for the tomboy part.  I don't know if I am or not, I've never bothered on deciding.  I love make up and perfumes and lotions and all that girly stuff.  I love clothes, oh boy do I love them.  Dresses and everything.  I love shoes, tons and tons of them and I love heels wedge or stilleto, I don't discriminate against them, but I'm used to them, they don't hurt my feet.  But on the weekends when I don't work I usually throw on sweatpants or ripped jeans and a tank top or t-shirt and sometimes I wear makeup (always lip gloss like you though) and sometimes I do my hair and sometimes now. I'm not too concerned about it, if I'm lazy sometimes I won't even brush it, I'll throw it up and forget about it, I'm horrible I know lol!
  • nursecutie said on Oct 15, 2007....

ladygamer, you would wear the wings? LOL I think it would be pretty actually! Maybe because I love fairies so much??

misssi, I like beer too and have been known to be very unladylike and burp like a man! LOL I think it's funny. I think since my dad didn't have any sons he had to teach me and my sister his boy stuff!

twyla, I don't know if I'd want my hair that short but I bet it's very easy to take care of! I like doing girly things, but I also like doing guy things too. I don't mind getting muddy or anything. I think it's fun!

queenP, thank you :) I will wear what I'm comfortable in! I love pink too, btw.

aayeena, I'm not sure what your comment means..........

uniquely, thank you so much :) I do think that the dress I want will suit me much better than those big bulky frilly things. I have been so torn b/c they're so pretty, but I just don't like wearing them. I am def. thinking tea length!! I don't want it short, but I don't want it on the ground either. For an outside wedding, it's also more practical to keep it shorter. It won't get dirty!

creativewoman, I think it's good to have a balance. I think it's good to care about your appearance, but still be able to be casual too :)

tara, I don't know if we're really tomboys or not! LOL I think there are different degrees. But you sound alot like me, minus the long hair! LOL

tizzy, I have been looking online for dresses/costumes like the one I saw on the little girl. I can't find the exact one!! But I am still looking. And when I find it, I am going to find someone who could make it. Unless I find a dress like it already made, that's not a cheap costume.

When my hair was longer, I would put it up all the time without doing anything to it too! That's when i decided to just cut it off. On me, I think it's cuter anyway. And it's easy to manage too!

  • Expendable said on Oct 16, 2007....

  • Mr_Box said on Oct 18, 2007....

I don't really think you're a tomboy. That's not how I would describe you at all. I think you're just not overly consumed by pointless things like worrying about every detail of your appearance.

And you always look cute every time I've seen you. But you know I've never been one to go for flashy girls either. I like edgy beauty. Funky hair and t-shirts with ripped up jeans? Now that's hot.

    [shrugs]

But that's just me. And apparently it's Kyle too because he loves how awesome you are.

And the wedding dress idea? Perfection. I can so see you wearing that. You should just go barefoot too. Why bother with uncomfortable shoes?

You're going to look perfect. But what's Kyle wearing huh?

  • gingersoul said on Oct 18, 2007....

Nattie....i saw you in pic and i can tell that you look just beautiful ....simple and cute as you are....

I would definetely wear the tutu dress and some little wings too...i like fairies too .....of any kind....:-)

And, like Jack said, absolutely ...you should go barefoot....i can see tiny white flowers all over your hair....

Wait...weren't we talking about you being a tomboy?.....LOL...

  • nursecutie said on Oct 18, 2007....

Jack, thank you :) I guess tomboy isn't really the right word. I'm just not as girly as some girls. But I guess that's ok! I'm glad that you find the appeal in girls like me too. I like the barefoot idea!! I was thinking of that......I don't know what Kyle is wearing yet. But it's not going to be super fancy either. I have an idea in my head about it though!

gingersoul, awww, thank you!! I love fairies so I've always had this fantasy idea in my head. I have a little collection of fairy figurines! I definitely wanted a flower wreath in my hair too. Maybe w/ribbons instead of a veil?

  • LadyGamer said on Oct 18, 2007....

It is your wedding. The one day of your life that you get to have whatever you want YOUR WAY.

I'm not saying be a bridezilla, but you should definitely make the choices that make YOU ,and your man of course, happy. It isn't your mother's day. It isn't your sister's day or your cousin. It's about YOU and HIM. You don't get that often, do you.

Do it your way and I garuntee, you will both be hugging that memory to you for the rest of your lives. It is about being happy and making lifelong pledges to each other that include staying happy come thick or thin.

Wear the wings if you want to.

tizzy, Peter Pan!!! LOL! That's so funny b/c Kyle told me NOT to make him wear a Peter Pan outfit! I wasn't going to do that though. I'm not that crazy........LOL! I'm still looking for a dress.
