OK, in the past 28-32 hours, i've finally caught up. there was no way in hell i was letting a whole damned week go w/out checking in!

there were 20 pages of my users since the last time i was really on, and i don't even know how many my conversations, but i always find it easier to work through the latter: most of the time, no response is needed.

this of course put me in mind of a poll..

[this space intentionally left blank so you can all scream "duh!"]

do you find it quicker to go through your my users page(s) or your my conversations page(s)?

I tend to wander back and forth between both, but I'm not very diligent with who and what I respond to.

Ed- It takes me less time to go through my users than conversations. I think this is because I start every session on most recent and pick up most of my users there.

I am beginning to find out how many posts I really do miss out on...so I am starting to use the who I read list and go through that..then users, conversations.  Of course I don't read 600 like some I know, so its not so bad for me...LOL

Conversations is usually easier. Most of the time I just read the new comments on other people's posts, but I don't often have anything else to add to the conversation myself. The only time it takes me more time is if I have posts of my own that have a lot of comments I need respond to. But reading the new stuff in my users tab usually takes longer depending on how much is new and how long the posts are.

It's easier for me to scroll through my conversations (probably because I don't comment as much as I should), but then when I have more time - usually late at night, I engage in a more leisurely (time-consuming) browsing of my users, to see what new gems are out there from people I enjoy. :)

I usually start with My Conversations. Then (if) I catch up there I'll go to My Users.

u-i: fair enough. me, i've always got one window open to both and as my comment saves, i bounce to the other. :>

beyond: i should try using most recent some time--i haven't found a new soulcaster other than by comments here or there in a long time now.

quietone: see, part of the reason i haven't used most recent is b/c that's the raw, unfiltered everything of SC, and it's just too much for me a lot of the time--esp right now! :>

e_t: i agree that my conversations is a lot quicker, although for me there's always the debates i sometimes get into, which do require a bit more time to frame responses...

infernal: dead times on SC are always the best time to catch up, i've always found. :>

    TS: that makes sense. :>

I guess I'm too new to understand what everyone's talking about, but I go to Soulcast Home first to read latest posts. (And to find any games anyone's posted, although I ruined someone's game, unintentionally, so I'm a little gun-shy about joining in.)  I then go to my conversations, then look around at whomever everyone else is reading.  Find a lot of really interesting posts that way.

I have never used "My users" page.  I don't know why--it's just how I learned to use SC from the beginning.  I only get on here and check out "My Conversations" then "My blog" then, "Most Recent."

I can't figure out if I am missing anything or not.  But when I get to "Most Recent" I have sometimes been on here so long it is time to go to bed before I see things I would have commented on if I had seen them earlier!   Hence--staying up way too late!  Like now!

twyla: the my users page and my conversations page are my favorite ways of staying on top of what folks are saying.

wombat: ain't nothing wrong w/ doing it the way you do. :>

Just FYI -- there are also Featured Posts, Most Commented, Most Viewed, and Most Recent tabs under the My Users tab.

I think the only tab that I don't use is My Interests. Maybe I should some time, but sometimes it seems a little redundant.

sw -- I like your idea of having both My Users and My Conversations open in separate windows or tabs and going back and forth. I should do that.
  • silverwhisper said on Oct 12, 2007....
TS: i've used my interests once or twice but it's largely IMX redundant with my users.

i generally keep a third tab open on my own page, should i have the idea for something to blog.

You know, that makes a lot of sense.

I've gotten so used to tabbed browsing that I didn't even think about having multiple tabs and multiple windows. Thanks for the cool tip!
  • silverwhisper said on Oct 12, 2007....
    er...i actually meant tabs!

  • TinSoldier said on Oct 12, 2007....
    No, you said tabs.

What I was thinking was one window with tabs open for my other haunts, and then one window with separate tabs for SoulCast.

Too many tabs gets just as annoying as too many windows.
  • silverwhisper said on Oct 12, 2007....
i've noticed that, too, esp if one site tends to feature links to other things.

hm...opera doesn't lend itself to multiple instances of the app running...gorram it!
