Yogos Onos peace column has just  been lighted on an island facing Rekjavík. I went out to look and I can see it very well.

With Yoko was her son Sean, Ringo, and Georges Harrison´s widow. I saw the whole thing direct on the TV.

It is Johns Lennon's birthday and the column will be lighted until December 8th but he was murdered on that day so many years ago.
Then this colon of freedom will be lighted on special occasions.
The column is dedicated to peace. On it's base where the lights are , is written imagine peace in many languages.

That's really interesting, Skald, I never seem to get to keep up to date about things like that.  That colum of light really seems to go very high :-)

That's so cool to hear about this from someone who is very near.  The light column is very much like the ones they had at ground zero in NY.  I like the idea of a peace column.

That is beautiful and thought-provoking. How cool that you can see it from where you live!

Skald...but how many intersting things happen in your small country?....lol....

I like this ceremony....and the idea of a column of light reminding peace for all the people is great...

Wonder why she chose Iceland...does she have some special connection with your land? Was Biork there too?

When i visited New York last year i went to see the Dakota building where they lived and on which entrance steps Lennon has been assassinated....on the side of Central Park facing the buidling they created a round memorial for him...its a simple circle engraved in the sidewalk....that day it was packed of people...many had left little notes or origami on the stone or flowers...moving....

I read about this in a newspaper here Skald, I think they said it would be lit every year from October something into December, maybe December 8th.

Thanks for the pictures, it's neat to read about something and then see it.

Infernal.  Thanks, yes it is cool.
Ginger.  Yoko has had exhibitions here and got well on with the people here. I only came to New York in 1969 and then this had not happened yet.
Mobil.  That is right, December 8th. Thanks Mobil.
