I've done a blog about some of the most bizarre jobs I've ever held before, but one of the blogs I read each morning sparked a new question.

If you could have any job in the world, even one that you make up, what would it be?

I have wanted to be the person who makes up the names for the colors on nail polish, a hotel and restaurant reviewer, coffee bean purchaser and events designer.

Oh, yes, I'd love to be that girl who travels and checks out hotels, and top vacation places...and gets "paid"  to do it!! yup that would do it for me.
  • hillbillygirl said on Oct 09, 2007....
I have always thought it would be cool to be a detective, or someone like CSI. But I dont know if I could really handle seeing the dead people, but I think the investigating part of it would be so cool.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 09, 2007....
quietone - something about having room service every day appeals to me as well.

hillbillygirl - I would imagine that you'd develope a coping strategy for seeing dead people if you went into that line of work.

I'd like to try park or forest ranger, if I could pick the parks and the forests. I would want to change every year.

Working at a large zoo taking care of animals interests me, if I could choose the animals under my care.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 09, 2007....
BTV - I never thought of forest ranger, but that does have some appeal.  I was lucky enough to work at a summer camp in Florida that had an exotic animal zoo.  I was able to play with baby lions, tigers but no bears. Oh no!!  They also had baby capucians there.  The big cats always made me nervous.

I would love to be a mystery novelist.

    Cool post, U-I!

I would like to be a presenter for the orca whales ate sea world. . .to go and see them has always been a dream of mine.

I would also like to be a secret customer who goes undercover to "test" hotels, restaurants and vacation resorts and then write reports on them afterwards.

    Luv Polar
  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 09, 2007....
CW - I have a lot of respect for novelists.  I'm afraid my patience wouldn't hold up for that kind of work.

Polar - Being a presenter would be fun!  I bet working with the Orcas daily would be interesting.  I think you, me and quietone should get together and start a quality testers company!
  • polarheart said on Oct 09, 2007....
U-I, YES! lets start a company and get people to pay us to have FUN! :-)
  • beyondtheveil said on Oct 09, 2007....
    What is a capucian?
  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 09, 2007....
polar - I wonder if it requires a PhD in Pickiology or a masters in Snobbery?
  • polarheart said on Oct 09, 2007....
Oh, not to worry. . .I have both of those! LOL (remind me what does it mean? LOL!)
  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 09, 2007....
BTV - capucians are a type of monkey.  We would take the babies and put them in our shirt or jacket pockets and walk around with them.  Cute as all hell!

polar - I've often been told that I'm a harsh critic when it comes to customer service.  I once worked at a B&B and part of my jobs was to inspect the cleaned rooms and okay them for use.  I would check for dust on the pictures, whether or not the sheets were crisply tucked in, etc and the maids lived in terror of me.
  • bloc said on Oct 09, 2007....
I would love to work full time on the website I decided to start a couple months ago. My hope is to turn this fantasy into a reality :)
  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 09, 2007....
bloc - Like they say, do what you love and you'll never "work" a day in your life.
  • skald said on Oct 09, 2007....
Hey good post but I like things are they are and I don't want a new job at this stage.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 09, 2007....
skald - Well then you have the best job of all!  The one you really want.
  • skald said on Oct 09, 2007....
uniquely. At the moment I just take care of people and I try to take care of my self.

  • polarheart said on Oct 10, 2007....
U-I, I think I am a bit like you too!  I can be a bit of a stickler for detail :-)  But I think if you are paying for a service you should expect something special, otherwise you could have just stayed at home! LOL
  • Twylarants said on Oct 10, 2007....
I want the job that guy in the commercial for a medication that stops you from running to the bathroom all the time does, building miniatures for movie sets.  If I were younger I would love to learn computer animation and work for Pixar or Industrial Light and Magic,or whatever it's called.  Or design computer games.
I was born in the wrong decade.
  • husbandhater said on Oct 10, 2007....
I want to sing. I wanted to be a musician, a rock star, to write and do my own material. But then I had kids and had to wake up to reality;~)
  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 10, 2007....
mobil - what about being a game warden would appeal to you?  The outdoor work, the people, the animals, etc.?

Johny - For the power and glory or just the money and babes?

polar - Part of the fun of going to a B&B or nice hotel are the small touches.  There's nothing like going into a sparkling clean room that you didn't have to clean.

Twyla - It's never too late to learn.  While that skill might not blossom into a career, it sure could be fun!

HH - Well at least you didn't go down the path that Brittany did of public self destruction.  I hope you at least still sing, if only for a smaller audience. (family)

  • mobil said on Oct 10, 2007....
Uni, all of the above yes, I worked outdoors most of my life. Working in the wild areas appeals to me though. Many wardens here take long treks on horseback into wilderness areas for weeks at a time with pack animials.

I could take allot of that.
  • silverwhisper said on Oct 10, 2007....
as i always respond to such polls: professional writer. :>

    ed
  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 10, 2007....

mobil - I could see you doing that.  You seem to be one of the few real outdoors men still around.  Did you know that they also still have bounty hunters for cougars in california?  Met one when I worked in the ER, he got bit by a snake while hunting.

SW - I'm not sure what you do for a living now Silver, but in my mind you already are a professional writer.

  • silverwhisper said on Oct 10, 2007....
that's sweet of you, u-i, although i can tell you that i absolutely am not right now. :>

Hey Uniquely...I am with you and Polar...yes lets go start our Best and worse places to stay business.. I got my bags all packed already!!   We could visit some SC people on our way to different places too!! Turely, I wonder how one gets that kind of job offered to them!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 10, 2007....
quietone - I'm not sure how either, though at some point I will want to research it.  I've often thought that when my kids are both in college (or out of the house) that I'd love to do that or work as a travel companion.
  • quietone said on Oct 10, 2007....
you and me both.  I love to travel, but it really isn't much fun going alone. And like on cruises..its dbl occupancy..
  • Battycat said on Oct 10, 2007....
Don't know, there's quite a few things, i'll have to come back to this. Work with animals anyway :-)
  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 10, 2007....
quietone - I've heard that a person can travel extensively as a companion to the elderly.  As long as there were some "down time" involved, I think I could enjoy that.

Batty - there have been a lot of interesting jobs on this blog

  • quietone said on Oct 10, 2007....
Hey, jpretty soon...I will be one of those elderly!  LOL
  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 10, 2007....
quietone - I know!  I worry that if my kids don't launch soon that I'll be paying someone to travel with me.
  • Taffy000 said on Oct 10, 2007....

I think the job that I think is a dream job would be that of an actor!  I know it may seem rude to say but it seems that they do so little & get paid so much.  I know, I know, it is so hard to control your appetite so you can fit into those size 0 clothes.  When I look at Nicole Kidman all I can think is she got lucky!  Whenever she speaks it's like her attitude is "I'd rather not be here speaking I'm SOOOOO important."

Another dream job would be singer!  I mean come on look at Britney Spears do you really think she knows the meaning of "work"? Nope, I think Britney's parents should have made her get a normal job to see how normal people live.  I can't say that I blame her.  If I ever have kids & I think they have the slightest spark to be in the biz I'm all for it!! I've even asked my husband ahead of time if the kid & I can go to Hollywood & he's all for it....so he says now.  The money that you make being in a commercial etc. is so much more than you can make in other ways.  Brit picked the correct career choice I can't see her doing anything else.  She can hardly do the pop queen thing anymore.

  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 10, 2007....
Taffy - If that's where your heart is, then you should try.  I'm more skeptical of the odds of actually achieving enough "celebrity" to not have to work much and live comfortably.
  • Fallyn said on Oct 26, 2007....
If i could have whatever I wanted. I would have a massive house. And it would have like 4 studios in it....so i could do whatever artistic endeavor i felt like at the moment.
    I'd be a fashion designer.
I'd be a photographer and do shoots for fashion magazines.
    I'd be a painter.
    I'd be a writer.

this room would be really huge......sectioned off so i could go to whichever activity i felt like. and in the middle of it would be a big play space for my kids. with a fence around it......so i could keep an eye on them while i was working.

ah but to dream. *happy sigh*

  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 26, 2007....
Fallyn - wow, now that's really using some creativity!  Sounds wonderful.
  • Fallyn said on Oct 26, 2007....
I don't feel happy if I'm not creating.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 26, 2007....
Fallyn - Me either!!  I have a closet stuffed with PIGS (projects in garbage sacks) and even some granny squares in my car trunk waiting to be sewn into a blanket.
  • Fallyn said on Oct 26, 2007....
*laughing* I like that term PIGS. that's cool.

unfortunately mine take up so much space.
    it's ridiculous.

and I haven't painted in a couple months. which sucks because it's so soothing.....or exhilarating. depending on the mood.

I just got done doing kids costumes. whew. that was a massive job.
Now I get to work on designing mine.

just in my dream world....I'd be getting PAID for all of it.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 26, 2007....
Fallyn - I know, in my dream world too.  I'd love to be an events coordinator, so that I could "bleed off" some of this creativity on someone else's nickel.
  • Fallyn said on Oct 26, 2007....
    that sounds like FUN!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 26, 2007....
Fallyn - If only a person could really make money doing it.  It's a lot like being an actress, many do it, few get the big bucks.
  • Fallyn said on Oct 26, 2007....
    exactly.
    it's rather sad really.
