It's been awhile since I made a post about crazy people. For awhile that seemed to be all I had to write about! But I wanted to update everyone on the crazy old lady who cut holes in the neighbors fence. Twice in the matter of three days, the police have been parked out in front of our house. And they were there for her.
Saturday morning around 10am I heard some loud cars outside and the sound of car doors slamming. So I looked out the kitchen window to see who was out there. It was the cops. For some reason they parked in front of my house, but I watched them walk across the street and over to the old lady's house. I wasn't sure what was going on since the fence incident was awhile ago now. And the cops never got called out for that when it happened.
I continued to go about my business but then I had to take out the trash. So I walked outside with my garbage bag, and one of the cops saw me out there. So he walks over to me and he asks me what I know about crazy Annie. I told him that I hadn't lived here very long, but that the other neighbors had filled me in. She was a little bit nuts.
And I asked the cop why they were there. Did she do something wrong? He laughed a little and said, "well, she cut holes in the fence." Yes, she did. But that was a few weeks ago. I thought maybe she'd done something else. But he said she hadn't. Not yet. But the guy with the holey fence was worried she was going to flip out and do something crazy. That's why they were there.
And he asked me if I thought she might be dangerous. That was an interesting question because I'd just learned from the guy directly across from me that she had a gun collection. And she often toted a shotgun in her truck. So I passed this information along to the officer and he found it disturbing. He immediately radioed the other cop who was in the yard talking to Annie and told him to come over to my house. And it was kinda funny because when the guy started walking over, the first cop made a little gun with his hands and pointed to the crazy woman.
The other cop laughed and said he already knew. One of the other neighbors mentioned she had a handgun. But they didn't know about the shotgun in her truck. I think I got the old woman in trouble. But really, a crazy old paranoid woman with weapons is not real safe to have across the street!
Then they told me she cut holes in the fence because she thought that the guys cable modem box that she could see through the window, was a tracking device. She saw the little lights on the router blinking and she thought it was some sort of spy machinery. Don't ask me how cutting the holes in the fence fixed that problem. But to her, it made sense.
The cops told me they were going to search her place for weapons and would likely want to talk to me more. I went back inside and I could hear the woman yelling at the police and she refused to let them inside her fortress. She actually has an iron gate in front of the door that's locked with a passcode. Paranoid much? But I guess they didn't have a search warrant or any real reason to search her place because she hadn't threatened anyone with violence. I'm not sure how that works. But they never made it inside.
They were there for three hours and then they finally left. But I stopped by my house on my lunch break to pick something up, and the cops were in front of the house next door to me. At first I thought something else was happening, but when I glanced over at Annie's house, she was in the front yard with the police again. And all I heard was the guy telling her, "we've been getting some complaints from the neighbors about you...."
So I'm not sure what she did this time. I couldn't stick around. But I think she needs to go. Obviously she's not in her right mind. I'm not sure exactly how old she is either. She looks to be in her late 70's but she's not a frail little thing. She's pretty tough looking for an old woman. Physically she seems pretty healthy, but her mind is gone.
I just hope she doesn't start shooting the place up. I was a little nervous that she could see me talking to the police on Saturday, because I thought maybe I'd become an enemy and she'd blast my house with her shotgun. I sure hope not. I just hope they can do something and get her out of that house.
I'm very curious to see what might have happened at her place after I left today. Hopefully one of the other neighbors will give me the scoop later!

That is scary! How does someone become so unhinged and no one does anything about it? I wonder if her family has given up on her. It's sad too.I hope they get her some help so that you can relax and not worry about her going "postal" on anyone or anything. -

m-m-&I--I think I'd expect hillbillies to be toting shotguns, but not little old ladies in suburbia! :-P
uniquely--From what I gather, she has no family. Her husband died years ago and they had no kids. She does have a friend that stops by because I've seen the car pull up. But she won't even let the friend inside her house. She'll honk the horn, and Annie will come outside and get in. I was told that no one has been inside of her house for years. Makes me wonder what's in there? Hopefully not her dead husband!

I would imagine that once she's passed on that the county will have a real problem house on their hands. I've heard of cases where it is impossible to clean up a packrats house and the thing just gets torched. -

uniquely--I'm sure you're right about that. I've seen inside her garage before because sometimes she opens it up. It is packed floor to ceiling with crap. Even if you wanted to get something out of there, you couldn't. There is no space to walk or anything. I imagine the inside of her house is just as bad, if not worse. They'll probably just demolish the whole thing, like you said. The property is worth a lot of money, but the house itself is likely a lost cause. -

I'd be nervous living next door to Annie, too. She sounds like one of those hoarders you read about, people who save every newspaper they've ever read, every empty soup can. Hopefully she can't get to her gun collection because of all the other stuff she's saved over the years.

I would have warned the police that she carries a gun in her truck....dont feel guilty....better preventing accidents that let things taking their course..
But said so...its just so sad...i feel pity for her...poor old woman with no one taking care of her.....just sad....evidently she feels safe only at home...and her home is turned out to be the literal expression of her troubled mind...
Try to be out of her trajectory though.....must be stressful having a person like this so close....

This is definitely an uncomfortable situation! I just try to pretend I don't see her when I go outside! She is always sitting there watching everyone and it's so weird! I hope that when I get old, I won't be crazy like that.
I wonder if she was always like that and it got worse w/age? Or if this is some sort of dementia that is new? I just hope they take away her guns!! That's scary!!

twyla--I hope you're right that she can't get to her guns because of the mess! I do think she's a horder for sure. I've noticed that she doesn't put out a garbage can like everyone else either. I can only imagine where the garbage is. No wonder she doesn't want anyone in her house! And I wonder why you couldn't get to that post of mine? That's weird! It's still there. And now I know what you look like :-) I'm glad you have no guns though!
ginger--I think you're right that the only place she feels safe is at home. It's very weird. I just hope they can stop her before she does something crazy. I will definitely stay out of her way!
cutie--I try to pretend I don't see her too. It's better that way! I have a feeling she's always been a little crazy and it's just gotten worse. At least from some of the things I've heard from the neighbors. I'm sure you won't be like that when you're old. At least I hope not!

I had to laugh when I read this. After working where I work and getting some of the calls I've answered, I've decided half this town is crazy. LOL Every day I learn something new that someone has done and it just amazes me. (I can't wait to retire and move out to BFE.) haha -

I don't think it matters where you live there are crazy people everywhere.....there is always some weirdo in every neighborhood. For some reason all I could picture when I was reading this was some old woman with a house full of crap and no room to walk .....and cats....have you ever noticed that most old crazy women have like 100 cats that have taken over thier home??? I have seen this on tv where they go in after the woman has died and found literally tons of cats and liter boxes and crap and food and cat piss everywhere.....maybe she's a crazy gun toting cat woman? Probably not tho cause if the cops where up that close they probably would have gotten a whiff it that was really the case....just my mental picture. -

hillbillygirl--Oddly enough, she doesn't have any cats. She has a dog. It's a little dog like the one they had on that show Frasier. It loves everyone. But I think she's overfeeding it because it looks like it weighs 60 pounds! I seriously think she feeds it all day long and it's gonna explode. Either that, or it's eating all her garbage. She doesn't like cats and actually threatened to shoot the neighbors cat if it went in her yard. She accused the cat of eating her goldfish that she had in a barrel in the front yard! I'm glad our cats are all indoors. -

That IS crazy! I hope they remove her (or go inside and find out that she doesn't really have a gun collection - though the way she wouldn't let them in doesn't speak all that well for her). You deserve to feel safe at home, and you do seem to have your fair share of nutty neighbors! :-D

infernal--We do have some crazy neighbors. Luckily we haven't heard too much from the guy with the headstones in his backyard. I hope they remove this lady and/or her guns really soon too. So far, she's still there....
