All you know that I am in New York City living and working, since I have moved with this apartment with this young lady I call a roommate, it's been a not so good experience. She is an ok person, but she is nasty. She doesn't clean after herself. She leaves the bathroom and kitchen nasty, if I don't clean, it will stay that way. Saturday, she was going to take the trash out, but she left it on the floor and before I went to work on Sunday, I had to take it out. I go to my internship 2 days out of the week and work 5 days a week, I have no day off, and when I go home, I got to be an unpaid maid to a young adult. She is 18, clean up after yourself.

I wish I my own apartment....

Oh MsB!  I feel your pain.
I'm so sorry this is how it has been for you!
Have you starting looking around for a place? OR looking for a neat freak that needs a room-mate?
  • MsBradford07 said on Oct 08, 2007....
I am still looking, but I am going to stay where I am until my internship is over.

There must be some pair of roommates somewhere who both take out the garbage when required, but they keep their compatibility a secret.
  • MsBradford07 said on Oct 08, 2007....
I wish they were my roommates.

Yeah, I had a roommate like that once ... it was a bummer too because she was my best friend my freshman year of college, but when we decided to travel across country after college and live together, I learned a whole new side ...

I am not by any means a neat freak either, but when I came home to the trashbag overflowing again and saw that her used tampon had fallen on the floor, I lost it ... she didn't even wrap the thing up or anything!!!!

That is disgusting and straight up triflin'. If that happen, I would have to leave.

sucks when your roomies have different "standards" of cleanliness.  Have you had a talk with her about this?  Maybe set up a system where she is responsible for certain chores on a regular basis?
  • MsBradford07 said on Oct 08, 2007....
Well, she wrote me a note of saying that the apartment looked gross and I cleaned up and when I tried to talk to her, I think it went in one and out another.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 08, 2007....
I suppose you could write her a note about the bathroom being gross and hope she cleans, but really, you need to schedule a talk.
  • MsBradford07 said on Oct 08, 2007....
I know, when I get home, I think she will be there and we can maybe set up a schedule.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 08, 2007....
good luck with that.  really.  it's so hard to deal with people you live with some days.

Ms.B private message me and I'll give you some ideas. If you are renting for 600$ or something you can get a studio for that price. Anymore money and you can find your own place somewhere. GoodLuck sweets and I hope things get better with the messy roommate.

I once had roommates like that.  It is beyond frustrating.  I hope you find a resolution soon.

I've never had roommates, but my daughter is just like that- she will live in filth and doesn't care- I think it's SO disgusting!  I stopped picking up after her filth just to see how long it would take her to clean her room- it's been a couple of weeks now and I'm sure there's a science experiment growing in that room.. it doesn't bother her.... I feel your pain

Well, if she doesn't start doing her share, you could suggest splitting the costs of a cleaning service.  Maybe that'll wake her up!
I totally understand, though.  I'm living with three males, my husband and two boys.  Going into the bathroom makes me ill, and I feel like I'm working backwards sometimes because I clean one room and they just mess up two more rooms.
Perhaps I should suggest the cleaning service as well?

Ms.B it might be the age difference. 18 means she is just coming from Mama. Which means she might think someone is still suppose to clean after her.
  • MsBradford07 said on Oct 09, 2007....
hh: Well, I can't be her momma. Just clean up.
