This weekend was so much fun for me.  My daughter was with me and we managed to find time to do a little exploring.  We went to this really cool Japanese dollar store that is about 2 miles from my house.  I've been dying to go there and it was all I thought it would be.  We bought a fist full of chopstick (ornamental) for wearing in our hair as well as other goodies.

We also were treated to gelato by my ex BF.  He's been very supportive of my kids and their school grades.  My daughter has all As and one B so we celebrated.

Last but not least on my fun list was an unexpected find at the Mall.  Not clothing, though that does make my heart flutter a little, but a new tea shop.  I didn't think there was such a thing.  I discovered it while burning time waiting for a friend.  There were literally hundreds of blends of teas.  Green, black, oolong and herbal.  Even Macha tea, which I'm not familiar with but eager to try.  When money allows I would like to go pick some up as well as the "blooming" teas.  You put a small "ball" of tea leaves in a cup and poor hot water over it.  As it seeps the ball blooms into a beautiful "flower".  I spent about 45 minutes looking and smelling my way around the store.  I ended up buying three types, including one that comes in those pretty pyramid shaped brewing bags of silk.

So, the question of the day is ........... what is your favorite type of tea?  My new favorite is a cassis and blueberry black tea.  Very fragrant, light fruity taste with hints of cassis.

unique- My favorite tea is Lipton. Probably because its the only one I've tasted (or whatever they use for iced tea in restaurants).

I should look into this more, but can't seem to rip myself away from the old coffee cup.

I love tea - one of my favorites is something called the Purple Lady - green tea and lavendar.  It is very, very soothing.  There is this wonderful tea shop in lower Manhattan at the Chelsea Markets - the T Salon.  They make so many wonderful blends of aromatic loose teas.  The chocolate almond and Egyptian chammomille are two of my favorites, although I think I butchered the spelling of chammomille - LOL!

I also love Celestial Seasonings Lemon Zinger.

Wanna share a pot?  I can really use something nice and soothing today ...

I drink loads of tea, but it's just ordinary Indian tea, I'm not into fruit teas, I've tried green tea, not bad, but just plain old tea with milk, and a little sugar :-)
  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 08, 2007....
BTV - I admit that coffee will always trump tea in my world, but in the evening I will drink non-caffienated teas.  I will also have other teas during the day when I've "reached my caffiene limits".

Artemis - I wonder if the Purple Lady is similart to the Dragon Jasmine tea I got.  It is a green tea with very small "balls" that work like the flower teas.  It smells smooth, though I haven't tried it yet.  Yes!  a pot on a cool day like this would be lovely.

Battycat - I like milk with my black teas too.  I'm not ordinarily into real fruity teas, but the cassis in the new favorite spices up the tea.

Iced green tea with ginseng and honey.  Turkey Hill, not the Arizona Iced Tea.
  • mobil said on Oct 08, 2007....
My favorite tea is a hard brand to find Uni, it's called Ican'tstandtea, yummy haha.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 08, 2007....
daily - I don't think I've seen the Turkey Hill brand here, but I like the green tea/ginseng/honey tea.

    mobil - you're such a card!!!

Glad you had such a wonderful weekend.  I love green teas, white tea, red and black teas.  They are so good.  I also like Raspberry tea, Earl Grey and would love to try a bunch of different ones.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 08, 2007....
rmuxagirl - teas are like clothes in that you can enjoy different types and like trying on new ones!

i'm a grean tea addict. This is my current favorite.
  • harriedpsychmajor said on Oct 08, 2007....
Turkey Hill's green tea is most likely found in the eastern US, unique. I was surprised to find they make one heck of a green tea, too. But I'm a bit of a tea freak myself. I'm partial to white tea, Earl Grey and anything with mint or lemon.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 08, 2007....
bloc - I've heard of gunpowder green tea, but haven't had it.  Something to look forward to, it would seem.

harried - I figured as much about the Turkey Hill tea.  I like white tea iced, a little too mild for me when I want hot tea.
  • quietone said on Oct 08, 2007....
I like trying new teas also.  My favorite is chai spice..I love the smell and its just a nice soothing cup of warmth.  For hardy tea I like the Earl Gray black teas.  That flowering ball thing sounds pretty neat.  I never heard of such a thing!  :)

I love plain iced tea. I guess that would probably be Litpon too! I'm not much of a hot tea drinker, but I did have this cinnamon flavored tea once. It was pretty good. I don't like green tea as much because it's flavorless. Same with chamomile tea too.

quietone - I've seen pictures of the blooming tea, but never run accross a place where I could buy it.  When my funds are not so tight I will definately but some.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 08, 2007....
Here's a clip of the blooming tea I was speaking of.

Would be pretty for a baby shower, wedding shower or tea party.
  • quietone said on Oct 08, 2007....
wow that is pretty cool looking, but now I see it, I don't know if I could actually drink it.  I have a "thing" about "things" in my water..
  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 08, 2007....
quietone - that could be a problem then.  Perhaps seep it in a teapot that you can't see into?
  • quietone said on Oct 08, 2007....
I'd love to see the bloom, then maybe strain it into the cup.  where could you get such a thing?  Probably not heard of here on the E. coast yet.  What a conversation piece it would be for an afternoon tea!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 08, 2007....
ET - Sorry!  somehow I missed your comment when flurrying through.   You should try some black teas cold.  I just tried an iced tea by Arizona Teas called Black and White.  It was very good, but not Lipton (english).  I think it had ginseng in it too.

quietone - I would imagine they have something that could accomplish pretty with a filter.  I'll keep my eyes open and send you a PM if I find such a creature.
  • quietone said on Oct 08, 2007....
thanks uniquely that would be great!  I'd bring one to work just to see the expression on the faces of the people I sit with~  :)
  • evil_twin said on Oct 08, 2007....
I'll have to look for that Arizona tea. I like stuff like that. And I took a look at that blooming tea video you posted. That was pretty cool! I don't think I'd wanna drink it because it pretty much looked like a cup of hot water with a flower in it. But it would be cool just to watch it open up!

quietone - If I brought one to work I'd just get rolling eyeballs.  (they know about my fetish for many things japanese and would assume this is another symtom)

ET - The "tea" in the blooming tea does look weak.  I think I'm going to enjoy it visually more than for it's taste.  I'll have to give a review type blog when I do get it and try it.

Green tea, rasperry tea ... and when I'm sick, my favorite is lemon!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 08, 2007....
simplyklo - I like all of those too.  I agree that lots of lemon when you are sick is just the right thing.

I drink a lot of iced tea that I make from instant Nestea sweetened with stevia.  If I'm having hot tea, I like cinnamon or blueberry tea.

MM&I - The third tea I got was japanese cherry and other stuff.  I like the flavor.

CW - Cinnamon in tea is so yummy!  It's also reputed to be very good for your blood pressure.  Blueberry is loaded with antioxidants.

I am not a tea drinker, but I should be because of all the health benefits...anyone who knows tea, can you help? I like coffee, mocha coffee, frendh vanilla coffee, hazelnut coffees...anything that you have had that tastes like those? I would be forever in your debt! I don't mind if it is a hot or a cold drink, just trick me in to drinking tea, please!

I am from a coffee country but I love the tea Polar sent me. I only don't drink tea very often still the same.
  • gingersoul said on Oct 08, 2007....

Unique.....my favorite is Pomegranate-Cranberry Green Tea and naturally Blueberry Green Tea.

I do like also White Tea but the very good one can be pretty expensive.

My mom is addicted to Early Grey Twinings, an English tea....i like it but its too light for me...

  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 08, 2007....

Mamie - I did see a chocolate flavored black tea at the shop.  I honestly don't know where else you'd find it.

skald - So the majority of people drink coffee?  Sounds like my kind of country.

ginger - both of your favorites sound delicious!  I've only had a couple of white teas that I would bother with again, but then maybe they weren't such good quality.

  • Zayda said on Oct 08, 2007....

And an oolong, Iron Goddess Oolong.

Best Taiwanese tea house in the PNW.

English breakfast, Earl Grey, chamomile, vanilla hazelnut cream, peppermint, Egyptian licorice, gunpowder green and Moroccan Mint.

    Worst: orange pekoe

  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 09, 2007....
nurse - I've never tasted a plum tea.  I think it would be good!  I like the peach and mango teas too, usually from Republic of Tea brand.

cotter - I love the peppermint and all types of mint (though Moroccan is best).  I have never tried Egyptian licorice.  Yet another one to add to my teas to find list.
  • Me-Myself&I said on Oct 09, 2007....

hey Uniquely...have you ever tryed "catnip" tea? you got to have honey in it but it is great for attitude! You see what it does to cats....well, it does that to humans too. I had batches on the farm everywhere for me and my cats!! **smile**

  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 09, 2007....
MM&I - really?  I've never heard of humans using it.  I have seen what it does for cats and I'm a little scared to think of what kind of trouble I'd end up in if I was similarly influenced.
  • hillbillygirl said on Oct 09, 2007....
Well I am just a Lipton Iced Tea drinker. But I saw that blooming tea and that is beautiful....but I agree that I dont think I could actually drink that. But some of these other teas you all have mentioned sound absolutly wonderful...might have to get some and try them. I have had green tea and it is pretty good ....just kinda bland for me. As for the catnip tea MM&I mentioned she told me that it has a calming affect and improves attitude. Says I should make some and give it to my daughter...haven't ever tried it.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 09, 2007....
hillbillygirl - everytime I give my cat catnip she starts doing somersaults and racing around the place.  I can't imagine having tea having that kind of effect on humans.

i'm with z re: tea, i prefer lady grey too. although now & again, i'll really get into a good darjeeling. :>

u-i: lady grey is distinct from earl grey in that there's a bit of citrus flavor added to the bergamot that gives earl grey its characteristic flavor.

  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 10, 2007....
SW - I'll have to try lady gray.  I have always thought that earl gray was missing something, and maybe lady gray has picked it up.
