Who's reading Zayda (514):
I just finished re-reading Kurt Vonnegut's A Man Without a Country for the 5th or maybe 6th time. Each time I read it I am reminded of why the book among the top of my all-time favorite books. There are so many passages from the book that appeal to me as an English teacher and a writer.

And the humor that's woven into the text is quite simply fantastic.

But each time I read it there is one particular passage that stays with me because it strikes a cord:

But I had a good uncle, my late Uncle Alex. He was my father's kid brother, a childless graduate of Harvard who was an honest life-insurance salesman in Indianapolis. He was well-read and wise. And his principle complaint about other human beings was that they so seldom noticed it when they were happy. So when we were drinking lemonade under an apple tree in the summer, say, and talking lazily about this and that, almost buzzing like honeybees, Uncle Alex would suddenly interrupt the agreeable blather to exclaim, "If this isn't nice, I don't know what is."

So I do the same now, and so do my kids and grandkids. And I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, "If this isn't nice, I don't know what is." (132)

So, my fellow bloggers, when is the last time you noticed how happy you were and took the time to say, "If this isn't nice, I don't know what is."

Zayda, the last time was just a couple of days ago when i took the long way
home from a cleaning job. It was a beautiful day, blue sky and the temp just right. So, i took the
river road home, and stopped by the river and sat on a log and ...looked-out...everywhere.
The sun, the sounds of the waves hitting the
shore and everything!!! I was at peace, happy, thankful! A totally free feeling,
that i take to heart. Yup, it don't get no better than that!

Nice post! Thanks, take care   see ya

Just last night actually. These days, I often stop to realize how happy I am. I do notice it, because it's been a long time since I've actually felt that way. And it's amazing how everything in the world seems better when you're happy...

Abraham Lincoln said that "most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be". I have always loved that quote and believe every word of it....
