Did you see that George Clooney has bet Michelle Pfeiffer $100,000 that he will never get married again? Don't worry Secret and others, he didn't say he'd never have sex again!!!http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20071005/en_afp/entertainmentuspeopleclooneypfeiffer
Anyway, the story reminded me of a little wager I had many, many years ago now ... one that I actually collected on.
I was young, maybe 23 or 24 and I was working with a lot of rich men. One afternoon a group of us went out to dinner ... I was dating someone seriously at the time ... someone who would later become my husband (and yes, now my ex-husband). One of the men, who obviously made too much money says after a few cocktails "I bet you two will be engaged to be married by June."

I immediately denied it ... in fact, I knew I wasn't ready, so I said, "I bet we won't."
"How much do you want to bet?" he asked me in all seriousness.
"How about $1,000?" I said, knowing that I could not lose.
Not only did this guy agree, but we drunkenly wrote up the wager on a place mat, signed, dated it and obtained witness signatures. And yes, come the date in question, he walked up to me at work with a check for $1,000!
(BTW - it took us more than a year after this bet to get engaged and two before we got married.)
