Is it wrong to point out when something a minority is doing is wrong? Or god forbid a group of minorities? I was at our state fair earlier this week and it was nothing but wall to wall mexican gangs.....apparently there was a hip hop contest earlier in the day....I guess that was the draw.....I couldn't even enjoy myself....very uncomfortable situation....a local nightclub had a hip hop contest a short time ago and it ended in gunfire....I was with my wife...my kids (at the fair) should we have to endure this? There were a lot of cops....they would follow some of them for awhile....I heard one guy in one gang use a veiled threat against one of another gang....go back to the hood....kill each other for all I care.....I want my freedom back!

TV and movies romanticize the illegal situation. The people making those shows
and comments live in the high dollar areas. The only hispanics they see are mowing
their lawns and cleaning their houses. The respectible, working hispanics. They
do not have to deal with the next generation that make up the gangs. On my
trips to Mexico I observed that they live more like we lived fifty years ago, which
was quaint in a way. I guess their teens are in their gang phase like so many
American teens were in the 50s and 60s. And I gave up on things like your fair
long ago. Part of the problem is that liberals have turned the illegal immigrant into
a racial thing. Now even legal hispanics and latinos are rebellious and want to
turn this into Mexico. We are getting what we deserve. Doormats were made to
be walked on. Check out your candidate's stance on issues like this. Candidates
at every level. If these gang members get caught doing something wrong, haul
their whole family in and check their papers. Ship them all home if necessary. That
would be the first bullet on my list of campaign promises. That is what your
great grandparents would have done back when America was a great nation.

Every time I hear this I have to ask myself if I would feel just as threatened by groups of white kids doing the same.  If the answer is yes, then I just start shooting my mouth off.

I will not say anything about another ethnicity that I would not say about my own.  Seems like a reasonable way to gauge if I'm being racist or just honest.

I think there has been so much talk of discrimination that in some cases it has caused reverse discrimination and it has also caused people to shy away from doing what is right.  I don't run my life that way though.

When I was a VP and had 125 reports, I had the extreme displeasure of weeding out some employees that the last manager did not want to deal with ... some were lazy, some had attendance problems, and some frankly, never should have been hired in the first place.  So, I went through months of conferencing, training, documenting, etc.  A couple employees surprised me with the extra help - most of them though did not and I ended up terminating them ... over 10 people in less than a year.  Anyway, the majority of the employees I fired were actually white males, however it just so happened that at one point, I had problems with three black employees in a row.

I used the same process I always had ... conference, train, document ... what a pain in the ass!  But, in the end, I had to tell HR it was time to terminate ... well, when we got to black employee number three, the HR attorney came down to talk to me.  "You might want to hold off on this one and think about it" he said to me.

"Why" I asked "Didn't I follow the same process and document the situation adequately?"

His answer of course was "Yes".  But then he said, "Well, the problem is that this will make 3 black employees in a row that you have terminated, do you know how that would look?"

My response was that I did not even realize it was 3 black employees in a row nor did I give a shit frankly as race never came into play when I made decisions to terminate.  In the end the attorney conceded and backed my decision, and frankly, everyone else black, white, Asian, or otherwise knew the employees deserved to be terminated and I never heard a thing about it again!

"should we have to endure this?"

Endure what exactly. Unfortunately this is rank bigotry. Being uncomfortable around thugs has nothing to do with race. There are plenty of white thugs in this world. However, it seems that you simply don't like being around people that are different from you. Be it their skin color or their culture.

You also seem to assume that anyone who is young and hispanic is a violent gang member. Remind me to never invite you to my home. I'd hate for you to feel threatened by my wife's family.
  • ALIENated said on Oct 05, 2007....
And there you have it. All Mexican gangs are just a bunch of little angels. I
would say, D6, you can rest your case.

    Fuck Mexicans!!!!

For you liberals that is not a racist statement. Mexico is a country, so when I say Fuck Mexicans, I am talking about a nationality.

Hispanic is not a race it is an ethnic group. So I can say any damn thing I want about these ignorant filthy Mexicans I see running all over North Carolina. They can all take their goats and go back to whence they came.

I liked someone's comment here. We got what we deserve. Doormats are meant to be walked on. That hit the nail right on the head.
  • bloc said on Oct 05, 2007....
no one said that gang members are angles, but your and d6's assumption that a hispanic teenager is a gang member is clear bigotry.

I know the difference bloc.....it becomes quite obvious when they are together....you learn to spot things...its not rocket science....if you have 4 or 5 of these punks walking together....each wearing the exact same hoodie for example....black with red strings....or a particular brand.....I honestly could care less what the ethnic background of gang members are....mexican, white, black, asian.....it doesn't matter....they all need to be put away....it just so happens that where I live it is mexican gangs.....sorry, but there are no white gangs....or so few that you just dont see them....nor are there any black gangs, or asian.....mexicans are still a minority here (barely) but dominate  the crime dockets....not my fault.....I am a member of this society too....and I refuse to let anyone guilt me into giving up my 1st amendment rights because it might hurt someones feelings....piss on the ACLU and those who support them.

  • D6fer said on Oct 07, 2007....
no....I assume that there is a serious problem with a disproportionate number of mexican kids belonging to gangs....I think I have a right as an american citizen to apply some peer pressure to those of my age who have kids like this, to straighten their asses out.....if this offends someone..tough.....their lack of action offends me.
  • ALIENated said on Oct 07, 2007....
Give up D6. bloc is retarded as far as I can tell. He just cannot understand common
sense issues or something. He is the one generalizing and turning your statements
into bigotry. Anyone with a brain can see what you are talking about. If it walks
like a duck, and quacks like a duck, and has webbed feet like a duck, it is probably
a duck. Not every Mexican teen is a gang member. But there are a hell of a lot of
them that are. Any teen, white, black, yellow, or green, CAN be a gang member,
but most are not any more. This whole deal is wrapped up in political correctness.
Hollywood would have us believe, like bloc, that all Mexicans (hispanics, latinos,
whatever) are little angels (not angles), but every group has its bad apples. They
are probably mimicing what that saw in Mexico. Not embracing our current
culture and values. I see hispanics every day that I do not think are gang members.
Some of them mow my lawn and prepare my food. Some of them work with me.
I see others that I will not turn my back on. I see all kinds I would not turn my
    back on, however.

    @d6
I often think that things attributed to race are really issues of class. I think poor people are more likely to be in gangs (having grown up poor and white I knew many white gang members). It just happens to be that blacks and hispanics have a higher level of poverty and therefore a higher level of gang activity.

this goes both ways. I also think that a lot of things minorities attribute to racism is really classism.

Either way it comes off as racist when people assume someone is a gang member because they are hispanic, young, and like hip-hop.
  • ALIENated said on Oct 08, 2007....
Quack, quack, quack. People who do not want to be stereotyped can only
achieve that by not acting in a stereotypical way. For example, if you have
your hair dyed orange and green and rings puncturing your face in various
places, I am going to think you are an ignorant moron. I know you may just
be the greatest person ever, and you are just expressing yourself, but I am
still going to think you are an ignorant moron. And please take lots of pictures
of yourself and save them. Then, when you are about 35 or 40 years old, you
too can see what an ignorant moron you were.

again bloc....I know the difference....I can spot a group of kids that have the whole hip hop thing in common....and I can spot a gang....I think almost anyone could.....I described them above...sometimes it is very simple...a 13 tattooed on the hand or arm......I really don't care what someones motivation is for doing wrong...there is no good excuse for it.....and it is up to the rest of us to point it out....I see nothing wrong with it
  • tbs230 said on Oct 09, 2007....
Whites are afraid to offend minorities for the same reason men are afraid to offend women (at least to there faces). The repercussions of speaking out are just too great. Now, to the point I wanted to make.

When you write something like, "go back to hood," what kind stereotypical BS is that? You don't want those kids to be the stereotypical "gang bangers," then stop being the stereotypical white man.

Jeez, how do you expect them to change, when your spouting out these kinds of comments?

FYI: the 'hood...is just slang for the neighborhood. If those Mexican kids live in your area...then the 'hood, is probably your back yard. I'd think you'd prefer them to say away from that area...
  • bloc said on Oct 09, 2007....
"I can spot a gang....I think almost anyone could"

Wrong and wrong. Unless they have it tattooed you can't tell the difference because so many normal kids dress just like gang members.
  • D6fer said on Oct 09, 2007....

tbs.....my opposition to gangs do not give them the right nor does it give them good reason to be in one....tagging private property....stealing....vandalizing....killing each other...or worse yet, killing some innocent bystander.

bloc.....I don't really know what the concentration level of gangs are in your neck of the woods....but we are saturated here....it's on the news...in the schools....my kids eyewitness it on a daily basis...it's really not hard to spot....and btw...not only do we need to stop these gangs, but we need to put an end to the whole gang idolization in itself..... I heard recently of a gang that was picked up early one morning...stripped of their clothes, and hauled off to jail buck naked! About damn time!

People who feel powerless join gangs.Power in numbers

Peer pressure plays a role as well.Things will change as this generation ages and the melting pot melds into one.

We have to try to reach the adult family members and pressure them to show their young a better way to deal with their feelings of powerlessness.Education is the key. This starts or dies at home.Prison for the bad boys.Illegals must be thrown out quick fast and in a hurry. The Italians , the Irish and African Americans had to go through growing pains as well. All good people have to stand as one regardless of skin color or nationality.

  • cotteralladams3 said on Oct 13, 2007....
Hmmm....I don't care if people listen to hiphop even if it isn't my thing.  As for gun violence, since when was this exclusively or primarily an issue involving African-Americans?  I'm not always P.C. but I certainly don't see the connection here unless you are stereotyping.

As for minorities, I think society has to see the whole picture which includes accepting differences of culture, language and ethnicity.  If were against bilingual education, multiculturalism and some level of immigration, by my own standards, I'd be a xenophobe with ethnocentric tendencies, not that I'm not proud of certain aspects of being Canadian, but I do understand immigrants and minorities.

    Now on 'waste-of-time' issues:

Free speech and academic censorship-A comment is not discrimination.  A debate on a hot-button issue at college is not discrimination but everyone gets to have a voice here (e.g. not making room for the views of pro-Israeli students at debates and speeches on Palestine and the occupation which happened last year at college; banning a speech on intelligent design; banning a pro-evolutionist scientist from a debate on intelligent design; scrutinizing and rejecting projects that criticize Islamic fundamentalism; debates on religion at school; questioning the allowance of religious headgear at college and work). I am not offering an opinion but the college here is polarized and hostile from the leftist academic camp obsesssed with the P.C. rhetoric.  I don't pay tax dollars for this limitation on academic censorship.

Ahmedinejad-even I, someone supportive of open and free speech, think he shouldn't have been allowed but if you bring him over, the damage is done and don't mistake 'soft, refined answers' for something else.  He is an expert on handling the media and political elites.  His claim to be an academic is short-sighted (he studied transportation engineering) as he is not an expert on religion, international relations, Israel, Palestinian rights, civil rights, democracy, Western society and other related areas of interest.

Israel and the rights of Palestinians- Columbia University can take the heat and criticism they created.  The pro-Israeli camp is still strong and who is to say by sheer offense people refuse to lecture and attend there, to apply for jobs, etc.  If you want a debate and a history class, you must present both sides and allow for free discourse and analysis on issues and any type of political extremism should be avoided though individuals and groups have the right to their views on both sides.  One cannot ban or limit the other.

Harassment and hate speech-unacceptable but it has to actually be harassment and hate speech.  All sorts of things are labelled 'ethnocentric', 'biased', 'prejudicial' and other terms without meaning.  I was once called a racist for disliking British food.  I have ruffled feathers for insisting that Sikhs not wear their turbans at college and that hijab should be banned because all Judeo-Christian headgear, symbolism, statement and ceremony is banned.

religious headgear, separation of church and state--That is ethnocentric, sorry, but it is, as it clearly gives a minority (non-white) special rights over the majority (white).  That is reverse discrimination and you know, I am very tolerant and fond of East Indians but this is a double standard.  Islam doesn't require hijab and nijab under Islamic law.  Muslim women can wear loose jeans, boots or sneakers, a blouse or loose sweater and a jacket or scarf, fit right in and not have to face loss of opportunity and inappropriate stares and responses from people who just think it is unsuitable for a Western society's social standards, to be allowing this.

This is a topic that always heats me up.....
and i have come to the conclusion that its just not gonna change anytime soon...

the thing is that we love to go to church on Sundays and pretend that we are sooooo loving and that we loooooovvvee the Lord with all our heart and we sing "oh how great thou art and Amazing grace" as loud as our lungs can handle it, yet .......  remember what HE says..... how can you love me if you have never seen me, yet you do not love your brother..... race is nothing, color is nothing, we are all human beings, and we feel and bleed and hurt, just as much as anyone....

i understand the illegal immigration and im not happy about my people coming into this country illegally but you know what the justice and immigration system is just soooo twisted and unfair.....

i know a lot of very good men and women, they pay taxes too and respect our laws, customs and ways and are trying very hard to speak the language as much as they can but you know what.................... they still get kicked in the A** for it.....

so i think anyone who is racist is just ignorant beyond belief
he who does not love does not know God.....

and im not being religious im just trying to knock some sense into some people thats all...... but i know im wasting my time
