I look like a woman, a very curvy, attractive woman.  I even like to wear dresses.  But, in many other ways I'm just not that "girlie".

I hate doing laundry.  HATE IT!  Yes, I am the woman who does a load of laundry then searches through the dryer days later for something to wear only to get frustrated that it's wrinkled.  And no, I don't iron either.  When I do fold my laundry in a timely manner, it then sits in my laundry basket for days waiting to be worn ... sometimes it sits there until it's laundry day again and I need to empty the basket to get my dirty things into the garage.  And yes, I have left clothes sitting in the washer for more than 24 hours creating the need to put in more soap and wash them again!

I hate cooking.  Just being in the kitchen stresses me out.  My mom shipped me to my grandmother's house once as a kid, to learn how to cook.  I had a nice day with my grandmother but I still don't enjoy cooking.

Gardening?  Well, I can grow vegetables but indoor plants I kill and flowers I forget to water unless they are in a sprinkler zone.  I am good at digging holes and building rock walls though and I much prefer that kind of labor.

Groceries?  Well, gotta say - I hate the grocery store too!  Do you suppose that goes hand in hand with my feelings about cooking?  I have considered ordering through Safeway.com as it seems like it would be much less of a hassle, but I canceled my order before submitting because even I had to admit it would look pretty lame - I am 35 and exercise almost daily so certainly I could get my own groceries and carry them in the house!

I can and do mow my lawn and choose this chore over the more "female" chores every week.  I take out the trash, though maybe not until it begins to overflow.  I even clean the toilets wihtout complaining.

So sorry, guys, if any of you men out there are single and had illusions about me ...

What's that saying again?  "A what in the kitchen and a whore in the bedroom" ... well, I guess the "what" tells you I paid no attention to the kitchen part of the saying ... for the right man I will certainly mow the lawn, take out the trash and be a whore in the bedroom though!!! LOL!!!

Laundry and grocery shopping are loathsome chores!  I can't stand either one and I don't even own an iron what the heck is that anyway?  I kill all plants I wasn't blessed with any gardening genes whatsoever!  I got the whore thing down, though...I sure hope it's enough.

A chef in the kitchen, maybe?  I mean it wouldn't be a whore in the kitchen, would it.

Do you think you would prefer to be a guy?
  • simplyklo said on Oct 04, 2007....
Kinda thinking whore in kitchen, whore in bedroom myself!  : )

No, I wouldn't prefer to be a guy since I enjoy being with them so much ... but a man around the house willing to cook for me and do some of the menial chores such as the laundry???  Now that I could do!!!!  I would even be a whore in the laundry room for that!!!

Klo, you and need to talk. I hate virtually all of the chores that say you do willingly and i enjoy (or do regularly, at least) virtually all of the ones that you say you hate.

Now, we may have to get into some unusual negotiations with the wifely one here, but everybody has their price, right? And besides, she's a freaking Cubs fan. ;)

A Cubs fan?  Is she a masochist?
  • simplyklo said on Oct 04, 2007....
A Cubs fan?  She must have a lot of good traits if you put up with that!  LOL!!!

I tend to rebel against the womanly things I'm "supposed" to do, probably because I grew up in a household where I saw my mom forced to do these things.

I have four children, so I've pretty much resigned myself to a less than immaculate house--it's a good thing I didn't care much about housework to begin with!  I do enough cleaning to keep us from living in filth, but I'm a packrat with a high clutter tolerance and my house reflects this.  I don't mind doing the laundry or loading the dishwasher, but I don't tend to get things put away.  My husband and I take turns cooking.

iron?  what's that?  LOL.....i haven't even owned an iron in 10 years.

i do laundry just about every night.  i hate it.
i've gotten so that i hate to grocery shopping.  i don't hate the actual shopping part, but i really really hate unpacking the bags at home!

What can I say? She's geographically challenged and so, like native New Yorkers who can manage to stomach the Yankees, she grew up in the Chicago area and evolved as a Cubs fan.

Yeah, I went grocery shopping today - since I'm a single mom it was either that or my kids and I could starve ... it was painful. I get annoyed having to lug the bags into the house too - it seems my kids dilly dally so much that they are absolutely no help, and there is always at least one bag not packed well, that rips out or threatens to as I carry it from my car to the house. I do have an iron though! I have hardly ever used it, when I have it's always been to press new wrinkles into something I'm trying to make wrinkle free! I even burned my favorite skirt one time - still where it though, just with a long shirt hiding the burn mark :)
  • secretlife said on Oct 04, 2007....
i ditched the iron when i burned a hole (that's being generous) in an expensive shirt.  the shirt literally melted under the hot iron.

i swore i'd never iron again, and i never have.
i use fluff cycle in the dryer.....i hang things outside when it's humid, or in the bathroom while i'm showering....and i pay the dry cleaner far more than i should.
    but i'm worth it, right?

Question: who says that to be girlie a woman has to like all the above things you listed?

I like only cooking and grocery shopping....cooking is sensual for me and fun and i like grocery shopping because i like to hunt for new foods and in the meantime it happens to be "hunted" by some guy too.......what's better than this?....:-)

my god.....for a minute there...I thought my wife began blogging....until I read that part about gardening....and that you were single......I'm the cook....and the clothes dryer is definitely the household closet.....she mows the lawn...likes it...go figure....although I have picked up that chore the last 3 weeks....hmmmm
  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 05, 2007....
I think it's about time we give up the 1950s gender roles.  If you like mowing the lawn and suck at laundry, so what?!  Shouldn't in any way affect how you see yourself as a woman.  Obviously I'm no June Clever or I'd have never done 1/2 the things I did either, but I'm definately a woman.
  • jasonrest said on Oct 05, 2007....
hey if you can wear panties without a bulge in the front, you're a woman in my book. unless you had like surgery or something... that wouldn't be cool.
  • moyz said on Oct 26, 2007....
i love cooking...and eating...and shopping (any kind of shopping)...love watering the garden (nothing else)....dont kill in-door plants (thanks to my mum)....i can handle laundry but i only iron when it's really necessary (which is my work uniform)...love cleaning up my place (with my volume really loud)....am definitely a freak in the bedroom, kitchen, stairs, etc....
