Ok, since everybody is posting their songs.....i suddendly realized i still didn't introduce you to any of my Italian songs. I know that it could take me tons of posts but a little bit at the time i am determined to let you listen to some of the songs that have accompanied me in my past years in Italy.

The first video above is from Zucchero Fornaciari, maybe one of the most international of our singers...in his long carrier he performed with Pavarotti, Sting, Keaning, Paul Young, Bocelli, Sheryl Crow, Macy Gray, Jeff Beck, Bono and so many others.

The video is the original version with Paul Young.  "Senza una donna" (Whitout a woman). I simply love Zucchero (Sugar) ..his songs have been the soundtrack of many moments of my life...

The second video is "Dune Mosse" (Moving dunes) with the legendary Miles Davis.

This third video down here is "Diamante" (Diamond)

Ok, stop with him because i could keep posting any single song he wrote...:-)

The following video is from another of my favorite... Biagio Antonacci "Ti ricordi perche''" (Do you remember why?" - 2001)...Between us, ladies,...this guy is sexy as hell....lol...

Now a little bit of Italian classic songs.....she is Mina, also called the Italian Ella Fitzgerald. She is a myth to us like for you Americans Barbra Streisand. Same great voice. I especially like her old songs ...like this one..."Se stasera sono qui"  (If i am here tonight - 1969)

Another very popular and loved singer is Fiorella Mannoia ....i have been to two of her concerts and i have also interviewed her when she went to sing in my city.....she is a great person......very politically involved too.....the song is "Nelle notti di Maggio" (On some May's nights - 1990).

Oh, i need another 200 hundreds posts to make you hear all my music....

I leave you with this last video though.....its Jovanotti "Ti sposero'" (I will marry you - 2002)......the video has been filmed in Umbria...i found it so cute.....it reminds me of many days when i could drop everything and go to have a walk in the country side....beautiful ...

I am really curious to know what do you think of my music......thanks...:-)

    ginger -- my connection is a bit slow today, so i can't really play the video clips for now. just to let you know i was sure you'd post something around this hour, and i was waiting exactly to be the first to read it and comment...LOL. will post a longer comment later...

    oh, and i'm *this close* to posting music videos from my native country.... very tempting idea...*wink*

  • gingersoul said on Oct 04, 2007....

    Moon......do not do it.....repeat...do no do it...lol..

    Actually, this post has been sprouted the impulse of the moment ....i suddendly realized i was posting only American songs..and ..where are mine?

    It took me more than expected to scroll thru YT to find the videos i wanted and many songs are not even posted there....my luck....

    I hope your connection will speed up enough to write your opinion about them.....i am very, very curious...:-)

  • moonriver said on Oct 04, 2007....
    oh, and ginger my friend, did you notice a pattern in the song titles of your selection?

    * Without a woman
    * Moving dunes
    * Diamond
    * Do you remember why
    * If i am here tonight
    * On some May's nights
    * I will marry you

    Let's see if there's some hidden message here somewhere...

    "Without a woman, I'm drifting like moving dunes. Do you remember why I am here tonight, even on some May nights?" I think the part about diamonds and marrying might be included later as required...LOL.

    Buona notte in your part of the world, my friend. I'm on my way out in a rush... will be back later with more hidden messages... *wink*

    ginger ~ I didn't understand the languauge of course, but I loved the music.  The first 2 especially as they were more blues type I think.  But all were great...wish I spoke or at least understood more than one language.. thanks for sharing and broadening my horizons..  :)
  • gingersoul said on Oct 04, 2007....

    Moon....no, i didnt notice the pattern of the titles at all....how peculiar....your eagle eyes didnt miss them though......now i am curious to see what else you might dig out...:-)

    Quiet....oh, the first two are my favorites too....you know....thsi is a concept i forgot to write in Silver's post about music and lyrics.....when you speak a different languages and there is now way to understand one single word still you can perfectly feel the feelings in the voice...like Beyond was pointing out...

    My mother loves Sinatra..i asked her many times if she wanted me to translate the lyrics for her. She always refused it. She says she doesn't want t know them. Those songs are perfect the way they are because she gives them the meaning she needs to give them...

    ginsoul- They were all good, but I do have a hands down favorite-Diamante. Loved the song and his voice I could listen to all day.

    Mina and Fiorella have superb voices also.

    (the girl in the first video wasn't half bad either-whew!)
  • gingersoul said on Oct 04, 2007....

    BeyBey....i am happy you liked him too.....

    i really like the video of the song....its  connected to the song in the meaning of reviving old, simplest days , where love seemed really last forever ....and the beauty of the Nature was still preserved and appreciated...that was a good reanactment of the Italian rural way of living that has been typical of my country unitl probably 50 years ago.......when the majority still used to live from the gift of the soil and the communities had strong values..few big cities and mostly medium size cities....the factories concentrated mostly up to the North in cities like Milano or Torino...

    lol....i knew that girl would have caught your attention...;-0

  • gingersoul said on Oct 04, 2007....

    Mamie.....if you like them just go to YT and there are several others videos of Zucchero, Mannoia, Antonacci, Mina and Jovanotti ....

    I am going to introduce you to other singers if you like this kind of music...

    Like this one, for example....Paolo Conte "Vieni via con me' (Come away with me)......great voice, great jazz....

    I was wondering if Italy had any country and western music Gingerbread? I listen to almost all and parts of the others. I am sure it is wonderful music Gingerbread as most people here like all sorts of music that I get nothing from.

    I am not an enjoyer of all sorts of music, I am very narrow in what I like and the music I like is almost always at least forty years old or older. I liked the videos and the countryside though, and like Beyond, Iiked that girl in the first one.

    I noticed that Mina in her video from 1968 had a hair dew much like they wore here at that time........thanks Gingerbread
  • gingersoul said on Oct 04, 2007....

    Mobil....no, we dont have anything like your country music. We do have a very rich and variegate tradition of popular folkloric songs that are typicla of of our many regions.....I found this video in which Mina interprets several regional songs...

    They were songs passed from generations to generations ...some songs's origins are lost in the time....some derived from teh the nuptials and other sacred or festive songs in Ancient Roma....

    There are so many though...i didnt even know some of these in the video...my region is Lazio, anyway.....and the popular songs from Roma are known to be the best songs...

    There are some band presently that try to preserve this musical tradition....some group like to revisit old ballads and modernize them...i see if i can find some video about them...

    Biagio Antonacci is YUMMY! I love the music. I so want to go to Italy. We are going to study Italian and hopefully go in 10 years. I don't think I could afford to take all the children but who knows things could change. I might hit the lottery. Then we will all go.
  • confuzzledwife said on Oct 04, 2007....

    ginger,

    I agree, Biagio Antonacci is HOT!  I've always had a thing for Italian men-

    I've always enjoyed Italian music, I have listened to it my entire life, my dad is all Italian.. and he'd play the records over and over - one song I absolutely LOVE is Lazy Mary.. I had that as my profile song on MySpace :)

    Thanks for sharing

  • gingersoul said on Oct 04, 2007....

    Vacant...oh yes...now i see some reaction here....lol....i almost shaked his hand one day....he is taller than he looks in the video....and he has gorgeous eyes......definetely bedroom eyes.....;-)

    Ok, i will give you Italian lessons...its a deal...lol..

    Confuz......you are not alone, my dear.....and yet , you might ask, how in the world i ended up marrying a yankee?....lol....

    Uhmm.. Lazy Mary.....who sings this song?

  • confuzzledwife said on Oct 04, 2007....
    Sorry ginger.. I should have been more clear :)

    "Lazy Mary", AKA "Luna Mezza Mare" by Lou Monte

    C'e na luna mezza'o mare

    Sempre lu peace a muno tiene
    Se c'in gappa la fantasia ti pomperia figgiuzza mia

     ""Lazy Mary you better get up"
    She answered back, "I am not able"
    "Lazy Mary you better get up
    We need the sheets for the table"
    "Lazy Mary you smoke in bed
    There's only one man you should marry
    My advice to you would be
    Is to pay attention to me"
    "You better marry a fireman he'll come and go,
    Go and come sempr's la pompa a mano tiene"

    Confuz...never heard of this song....it is a folk song and it seems coming from the Naples area for sure.....its old or new? it seems an old song....

    If I were Italian this is the music I would listen too haha. Very folksy Gingerbread. I enjoyed watching and listening to these for all the different regions....Thank you.
  • confuzzledwife said on Oct 04, 2007....
    ginger I wish- lol
  • hotaka said on Oct 04, 2007....
    Ginger, I will be so ready to check out the songs once I get back to a computer with speakers. The main office computer is under management control now so I have to use the old computer with no speakers. There's a lot to check out so I will need time. I should have time tomorrow evening.

    Love the Italian, btw. Ti sposero - I know ti is you and I can see the relation between sposero and spouse. Ricordi - record - remember. Donna - prima donna, madonna. I get it. I knew a store called La Senza. Does that mean "the without"?
  • Fire_01 said on Oct 09, 2007....

    Ginger....I will have to find some time to listen to those songs. I am sure they are awesome!!!

    What crappy speakers we have here. They are aweful for listening to music.

    Zucchero is almost within range of my usual style of music. If his other/older songs rocked a bit more then I would probably have this album.

    Dune Mosse sounds cool. There are times I would want to hear that song and probably the album. Love the trumpet. Myles was a genius.

    Diamante. The sound is a very mature music sound, similar to latter day Genesis or Moody Blues. He does have a great voice.

    Biagio. OK, ginge. I can see what kind of guys turn you on. Just let me grow my beard a day more and I'll get my sunglasses and black trench coat (I promise I'll be properly dressed underneath). I'll say it's not my choice of music but if the girl I was with liked listening to it I would be happy to listen too. It is good stuff.

    Mina, love the voice, great music. I feel like cooking pasta and drinking red wine while dancing smooooothly.

    Fiorella, nice song. I think I can really associate this music with you, ginge.

    Jovanotti is quite different. His singing is not as good as the other guys but the video is kind of cute. I like the moving photos.

    Well, ginger, that was really enjoyable despite the poor sound system. That's for sharing and I am glad I finally took the time to stop by for a listen. I am sure a drive in the Italian countryside with you and your tunes on the CD player would be really fun.

  • gingersoul said on Oct 21, 2007....

    Hotbabe....yes, La Senza mean The Whitout but its a strange expression in Italian...maybe its a last name more than a word...

    I am so glad you appreciate some of my music...specially Zucchero and Mina...yes, Fiorella talks of things very close to my heart...as well as to any other woman.....you know...love, passion, identity...

    Jovanotti is not a good singer per se, i totally agree, but he has such a personality and such passion for love and for networking thru music and proposing tematics close to him that he makes you stop and listen.....when he cheated on his beautiful wife his story became a soap opera but he has been one of the few VIP who got the gut to admit the affair, and recognized the pain he was inflicting to his wife and treated her with respect and dignity.....btw, he went back to her.....

    Biagio..oh, he sweeps me away.......mostly for his voice, then the lyrics and then those bedroom eyes....lol...if you look like him after 2-3 day of not shaving i have my ticket for Japan ready....:-D

    Zucchero acually has a lot of more rocked and energic songs...i will post some for  you  ....i happen to like the slow ones better ....oh, i also met the actress in his Diamante video .....

    Was looking to see some of the other things you wrote about after last comment. Saw your Itilian pics - super! Couldn't find them just now but found this! Really can't understand how you can hold out in Texas when you have the Toscana!... And for me its the French as well.... seems the best food and songs come out of Italy and France. (was never a fan of our "jack-hammer rock".) Also like Lucio Batisti.... have several of his albums...
    YOU HAVE GOOD TASTE1

    Steppen......i love Lucio Battisti...simply love him....lol......i was thinking to post more songs and he would have been there for sure.....i love France too...for me its the quintessential of elegance and country charme......i have been in Paris wtice and in the north side of the country.....i would love to go back in Provence one of these days......

    I am glad you liked my pictures.....:-)

  • steppenwolf68 said on Feb 25, 2008....
    Ginger, yes! And I misspelled Battisti!!!
    And what ever happened to Alice? The last thing I heard of her, she was pregnant and did another album, but of things SHE wanted to do. I heard it was the best thing she ever did, and then.... nothing. Maybe she felt that she had said all she wanted to say musically and felt no need to come back.
    Almost ashaimed to admit it, but I also like Drupi. He's so Italian!
    Thanks for the songs. I'll be gone for a while, but want to say here I also read your story on your mother's narrow escape. You were so kind and used the word "NAZI" rather than "German". That's the Italian in you! It may be some consolation to hear that just recently they prosicuted a war criminal here who had ordered the shootings of Italian civilians. He tried to plead that he was too old and sick to go to jail. I'm happy to report that they locked him up anyway.
    Also, and also not on the subject: you write well. Yes! So before I go let me encourage you to keep working at it!
    Ciao

Love them or hate them?

I am old enough to remember the Saturday Night Fever craze. The soundtrack filled with Bee Gees songs will always be one of my favorites. I got caught up in the disco fever of the day....
