lol- I joined SoulCast yesterday feeling quite down- it was 5 AM, my son was cranky the night before and got to sleep around 4ish- so here I was irritable and feeling isolated for many reasons.. I was having a serious pity party, which I really try NOT do to too much :)
So I am going to post a very light-hearted blog before it's time for me to pick up the kiddos from school.
I am a redhead- yes, a natural redhead.. I feel the need to say that only because it's the single most asked question I've received in my life- why do people care if I'm a natural redhead? I don't know. Both men and women have asked me this question.
As the youngest of 7, 4 girls-3 boys, I was the only girl with red hair- and it used to be bright orange when I was little- oh, people would stop my parents in the store to touch my hair.. I remember being so little sitting in that shopping cart feeling like a freak show as people were touching my hair.. and this continued through my entire life. In school I got teased a lot being the only redhead in the entire school- I felt awkward. Out of place.
2 of my brothers were redheads, but by the time they hit their 20s it faded to a dark auburn and brown- I was told mine would too, but at 37 it's still red.. not bright orange anymore, but red.
I attempted to dye my hair once when I was in my early 20s only to find out that red hair doesn't take dye and 2 days later it was red again.. what a waste of money.
I hated my hair color as a kid.. and people would tell me when I was older I'd love it.. well, here I am 37, still not loving it.. I have accepted it, but it's not love.
None of my kids have red hair.. I was told it skips a generation, which means I can anticipate all my little Grandchildren running around here with their red hair lol.....
Can anyone tell me why there are certain stigmas attached to redheads?
It is assumed I need sex all the time- not true.
It is assumed I have an fiery temper- not true.
It is assumed I have to be a comedian like Lucille Ball or Kathy Griffin- not true..
It is assumed I am a witch - well, that may be true ;)
I just read yesterday on AOL news that there was a study done in Germany on women and their hair color, blondes, brunettes, and redheads.. it has been concluded that redheads send a signal out to men they want sex, and this is why some women dye their hair red.. this isn't true at all in my case- don't get me wrong, I think I'm just about as average as anyone else is in these areas.
Just wondering what all you non-redheads think.
