    i wasn't aware that you sport ink, bloc.

    hm...i'll confess i'm not sure how the escher-esque image would look. how large would that piece be? it looks awfully demanding on whoever will do the work. the second piece has a distinctly cthulhu mythos look to it: ?

    i think the second one is more immediately accessible to the viewer while the first would require someone staring at it for a while.
  • bloc said on Oct 01, 2007....
    they are both eschers, not escher-esque ;) The second would go on a shoulder without a doubt. I'm not sure where i'd put the first, but I like the first a bit more. I'm not an artist, but I'm guessing the first would be hard to do.
  • beyondtheveil said on Oct 01, 2007....
    bloc- I'm not an artist either, but the first looks like it would take some size to get that detail. However, I still like the first best.
  • bloc said on Oct 01, 2007....
    I wouldn't do all the small ones on the edge, hopefully that makes it a less difficult.
  • lfbno7 said on Oct 01, 2007....
    i really like the second.  i like the darkness of it.  i'm not connecting to the first all that much.  and it's so intricate, how could someone do it?  the second has so much atmosphere.  the first looks to me like an indian rug doily with bats on it.

    i can always be counted on to disagree with everyone about everything.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Oct 01, 2007....
    I like the second one better.  It's more thought provoking.  Just my opinion of course.
  • Zayda said on Oct 01, 2007....
    Bloc--The smaller you go with the bats and the angels in the first one, the more detail you would lose from them. So, it might be that you would have to eliminate a couple of the outer rows to make the details of the image work; although, in the image itself, the details begin to fade in both the bats and the angels as they get smaller. The problem with a tattoo, is that you run the risk of the outer rows just looking like black blobs.

    For the second one, how much of the image are you going to put in the tattoo? Just the tree? The tree with the sun behind it? The dark background might have to be eliminated or lightened if you want the details of the tree to stand out.

    Honestly, your best bet is to talk to your tattoo artist to see what he/she thinks about the two images and what the difficulties or drawbacks of each image would be.

    Of the two images, I like the second one best, but I don't know how it would do as a tattoo. The first one would possibly work better just because of the contrast of light and dark, but then you have to decide how much of the outer edges of the image you would want to remove.
  • bloc said on Oct 01, 2007....
    i would eliminate some of the outer rows and possibly make the border a thick line.

    " For the second one, how much of the image are you going to put in the tattoo?"

    I've been debating this. Right now I'm thinking of removing the background all together and just having the tree and the sun and making the sun black.

  • Zayda said on Oct 01, 2007....
    Bloc--If you make the sun black, would the tree be more grey/white then (not as dark as the sun, in other words)?
  • MissMimi said on Oct 01, 2007....
    I like both of them but I think I like the second one a bit more.
  • bloc said on Oct 01, 2007....
    @zayda
    I'm not sure. Maybe do a circle of the sun (i.e. just the border). Or, somehow do a border for the branches that go through the sun so the lines are clear.
  • Zayda said on Oct 01, 2007....
    Bloc--Now that I think about it, you could make the sun more grayscale --gray with a white border even, and then keep the tree dark like it is, and that would work.

    Bloc .....  Escher did a great job with both of them......

    I prefer the first one though....but since i am not into ink at all i have no idea how it might result on skin......I just like it....... :-)

    How about?         (W o W)...............  just for a visual a W on each ass cheek?
  • rmuxagirl said on Oct 01, 2007....
    the second one, the one that kinda looks like a tree would be the hard on because the "branches" link together so they would have to draw it up perfectly to make it look right.
  • MsStar39 said on Oct 01, 2007....
    I like the first one but it looks a little to busy.
  • silverwhisper said on Oct 01, 2007....
    i have to say, that second does not look like escher to me. ah, well...

    no...maybe a little butterfly or something?
  • boogiebear22 said on Oct 01, 2007....
    Where are you planning on getting the tattoo on your body? Such detail in both that it would be almost impossible to make it look so wonderful on a small pary of the body. I like the second one best, myself. I am also a lover of Ink.
  • lambovet said on Oct 01, 2007....
    bloc- shaved head perhaps? might be painful, but wicked cool. The first one is eye catching art.
  • ALIENated said on Oct 01, 2007....
    Here is a nice one that I think would fit you a little better

    but you probably already have one like that. Just a thought.

    I've already got that on my balls so that all the republicans can look at it while they are ... in public restrooms ;)
  • bloc said on Oct 01, 2007....
    @boodie
    the second would be on my shoulder for sure. I'm not sure about the first.

    @lambo
    I'm already going bald so why not :)

    Love Escher.  Not so hot about tatoos.  :-)

    Im kind of surprised....both of those seem kind of "dark" in character....never pictured you as the type.
  • blastfromthepast said on Oct 02, 2007....
    I agree with D6.  Both seemed a little 'dark' to me as well.  Still, if I were to choose, I'd pick the first one.
  • ALIENated said on Oct 02, 2007....
    I figured you already had something like that somewhere. And I also figured
    you hung out (pardon the pun) in public restrooms. Is that where you met
    kelly?

    I think the second one is much better.
  • tizzygirl said on Oct 02, 2007....
    I really really like the first one and I would absolutely love to do one like that on someone!  I would of course pick probably the bluish black color, I don't like the black that fades to green.  The second one rocks too but I am partial to bats!  Why not get both???  Oh by the way where are you planning on putting it?
  • bloc said on Oct 02, 2007....
    @tizzy
    the second would go on my shoulder, but I don't know where i'd get the first.

    @d6
    I like dark stuff. If SC ever gets avatars mine will likely be "dark'.
  • tizzygirl said on Oct 02, 2007....
    -what about the forearm on the inside for the first one?  tattoos that shape go well there and you can always get things around it.

  • bloc said on Oct 02, 2007....
    i'm a small guy so I don't think my forearm is big enough :/
  • tizzygirl said on Oct 02, 2007....
    you could shrink it down and wrap it.....or you could do it on your upper arm?
  • D6fer said on Oct 03, 2007....
    bloc.....I thought you were Atheist....those have a satanic tone to them if you ask me.
  • bloc said on Oct 04, 2007....
    you assume a lot about me that is false. I'm unsure how many times I have to say that I'm not a democrat and that I'm not an atheist before you guys will actually hear it.
  • ALIENated said on Oct 04, 2007....
    So you are a Christian Republican? Does not compute. Does not compute.
    Does not compute. Abort program. Abnormal end. Clank. Clank. Sputter.
    Sputter. Fizzzzzzzzzz. Ohhhhh. A Progressive Muslim. That works.

  • ALIENated said on Oct 04, 2007....
    All seriousness aside, why would you want to defile your body with tatoos? I have
    one small one where no one ever sees it (high on my arm near the shoulder). But
    I regret that it is there every day. I often think about having it lazered off, or
    however they remove them. I think tatoos on women are disgusting. Put those
    guns away. That is just my opinion. One man's trash is another man's treasure.

  • D6fer said on Oct 04, 2007....
    care to divulge that info bloc? Religion? Political Stance?
  • silverwhisper said on Oct 05, 2007....
    i'm just curious what bearing that has on bloc's tattoo question. :>

    or, for that matter, on whether or not his points have merit. :D

  • tizzygirl said on Oct 05, 2007....
    I would have to agree with silver alien....I love tattoos I don't think it's defiling, I think it's a way to express yourself.  I am very sorry that you regret yours, you may seriously want to think of having it removed if you hate it so much.  I would like to add however that my love of tattoos has nothing to do with my religion or political stance and I find it odd that you would assume so.  It's no different to me than picking my makeup or clothes, it's what I decorate myself with not how I vote or worship.
  • bloc said on Oct 05, 2007....
    @alien
    the world isn't black and white which explains your difficulties in coping with nuanced issues ;) People can be something other than a christian republican or a democrat a la andrew sullivan.

    @d6
    My religious views are very personal and unclear. I don't think we have the ability to understand the universe to it's fullest. I believe that there is a right and wrong which is why I'm so outspoken against torture and violations of human rights.

    My generalized political stance is complicated. It revolves around the idea that a good society is based on both individual liberty and the recognition that all of our interests are ultimately tied together. That we are all better off if a poor kid like myself is able to get an education that expands both wealth generation and reason.
  • D6fer said on Oct 06, 2007....
    I have always at least got an impression (not sure if you've used words in the way) that you are concerned about how speech makes other feel.....especially in the case of for instance muslims....tatoos are a very personal form of speech.....and I find it interesting that you wouldn't think twice about offending christians with your speech (tatoos)....not that it would offend me....but I know plenty of people that would feel uncomfortable around someone with those tatoos, because of the dark, satanic impression they may give.
  • Melkor said on Oct 06, 2007....
    What is so 'dark' and 'satanic' about his tattoo choices? The first one is full of angels!
  • bloc said on Oct 06, 2007....
    @d6
    you're conflating different things. The idea that I believe that all people should avoid everything that offends anyone is ... silly.
