One of my friends is having issues with her ex-husband. Apparently the week that her kids are with him, they are fed junk food ... snacks, sugar, McDonalds, etc. Their son who is in first grade was recently brought in for a routine check-up. The doctor said that he is "over weight". This infuriated my friend as she feels her ex, who is overweight himself, is not providing proper nutrition.
We were all at a soccer game this weekend ... our daughters are on the same team. I arrived first and set up my chair. My friend's ex showed up next ... it was his week with the kids. He sat down to my left. I actually like the man as he seems intelligent, he obviously loves his kids whether he does everything "right" or not, and frankly, he has never done anything to me. When my friend arrived, she sat on my righthand side.
At one point during the game, she decided to speak to him ... across me. I wasn't surprised ... he has taken her back to court for additional child support so she is quite bitter, but still, I don't want to be in the middle in any way.
So, she says to him, "You need to talk to your son. He told me that he is really upset because when he is with you, you tell him he is 'fat'".
Well, the ex neither confirmed nor denied the allegation ... whether guilty or not I'm sure he was trying to avoid a conflict on the soccer field in front of other parents ... don't blame him.
But, awhile later, when I heard a "rrrrrrrrrrrrip" and looked over to see him stand up from his lawn chair because the cloth bottom had entirely ripped out leaving him sitting on the ground, I had to chuckle to myself. Embarrassed he folded his chair down so no one could see it had ripped, and he walked off to the other end of the field. Needless to say, my friend thought it was hysterical. She surprisingly ignored it and did not cause him further embarrassment, but after he was out of ear shot she had a good chuckle ... "He's telling our son that he is fat ... look in the mirror!!!!!"
