Well, I was able to sit and chat with 'R' some tonite. Talked about gaming a bit and then I started thinking that she might enjoy L.A.R.P.ing and told her that sometime, it might be an option to take her sometime. While it won't be an immediate thing, it is something that I think she would enjoy and her pops would have liked.
So, if she can stay out of trouble, keep up her grades in school and her mama agrees, I might take her up to Kansas with me sometime to try out DragonCrest.
I do think he would like that.
Maybe, just maybe.
Hell, with any luck I can drag her mother back into it too! LoL
Ah yea, and for those who don't know, L.A.R.P.ing is Live Action Role Playing.
Think of table top gaming, such as Dungeons and Dragons, but instead of rolling dice or telling someone what you want to do, you get up and do it. Mix D&D with improvisational theatre.

Jeanie makes LARPing look like fun. Have you talked to R and LG about costuming, spell packs and padded swords? (SCA for costuming help)

You might want to look around, there might be a LARP near you.

LG, I did say maybe yea know. ^_^
Thanks sw, think she would have fun. Might have to swap between LG and her each month on who I drag up to KS for an event! LoL
Expendable, I've been larping for nearly 15 years or so, it is great fun for sure. I am actually on the plot team for a KS DragonCrest game.
As for the weapons and all that, I can make some, done it before and am actually working on some leather armor for someone back in KS. ^_^
    Jeanie is hilarious btw. ~_^

LG's been raising them on 2nd Ed. so maybe you could do a mini-LARP with all the pipsqueekian horde, not just R.

Heh, I'm a gamer geek, so of course I'm gonna try to get them into gaming!
Larping though, would be a bit much, although they are getting older and should be able to understand it more as they age.

I can see letting Eldest play a bit. Provided grades and chores stay done. I remember when I played regularly the fifteen and sixteen year olds were well attended by the adults about.

And a number of the adults there are people I have gamed with. So there is a certain trust base established.

And I am much more comfy letting her Larp than date.

  • silverwhisper said on Oct 05, 2007....
well naturally, LG: you've seen her game before, so LARPing isn't that far a stretch!

Aye, I did tell her when we were discussing it that there would be some decent restrictions on it.
Grades & Chores were at the top of the list.
There are a few younger kids that play, there is one in particular that is really getting into the game alot, she is 13, her father is there playing at every event and she enjoys it quite a bit as well as getting pretty decent at it too.
I took my 2 boys out there and my oldest really enjoyed it. Youngest was to a degree, but he just couldnt quite grasp it enough to really get the full 'fun' out of it.
A few more years and I know he will love it, just as 'M' and I do.
